    From what i understand, pegmatitic rocks do not form very slowly but actually extremely quickly. On the scale of days to years. This due in part to the melt being rich in flux element (H, B, F, O) before it solidifies.
    Really enjoying the series, Thank you!

      If an object falling from sky is covered with lava, then it is a terrestrial rock?

      Hi J Dean, Thanks for your support. I teach at the Colorado School of Mines. My general interest is Earth Science, and my specialty area is paleoclimatology (ancient climates). Happy New Year to you! CVS

      Great! any recommended reading on Geobotany and mineral deposits? or anything to do with the subject........i'VE got to THANK YOU as much as i can..... its put moreandmore into perspective! jd

      J Dean Geobotany, specifically the study of plants preserved in the Earth's crust, is not my speciality. Both Stephen J Gould and Richard Dawkins have several excellent books on general evolution. Kirk Johnson of the Smithsonian is a paleobotanist and has some interesting content on-line. As for mineral deposits, we have an excellent school for that subject. My colleagues could tell you so much more. Thanks for your feedback. I do this in my spare time and never know if it is having an effect until people like you let me know. Thanks.

      J Dean There is a book called "Non Ferrous Metal Ores" which deals with plants as well. This website is a quick overview: technology.infomine.com/articles/1/1650/indicator-plants.geobotany/indicator.plants.aspx

    1:48 can someone tell me what is going on with this rock?
    There’s an old timers mine with this as the outcrop like this near home. I would like to know what it was mined back in the day.

      It’s a pegmatitic granite in my mother’s backyard. Not sure where she got it.

    5:40 the most famous rock, the same rock that trapped the chilean miners, a so-called 'megablock' of diorite 45 stories tall weighing twice as much as the empire state building

    Given its broad application, everyone should understand GEOLOGY - therefore this video has been indexed and a link added by DR-KNOW / iq-2k Information Services - roughly 650 videos have indexed for this series

    I'm an American so I have no understanding of metric sizes. Just as Eurosnobs don't comprehend American measurements....

    • @CVshorey
      @CVshorey  6 років тому +4

      It's not hard to learn and apply conversions. The internet is kind of handy with converting to superior international units. You are really going to struggle doing any efficient science without metric.
