Imho Dave is genius. I am a white northern English man, never lived in the hood, didnt grow up in violence, can't really relate from any personal experience, and yet he still speaks to me.
True greatness transcends all barriers, race, ethnicity, social class, gender and genre. That's true genius. This man is a national treasure and we should all be paying attention 👏

In London though, when we say "Violate" it doesn't necessarily mean sexual. It's slang for when someone makes a mockery out of you or robs you in public
From the way I heard it, it made it seem like he meant it sexually violated. The line after sounds like he said he “hates the preacher”, not “hates the feeling”. But I’m not from there and the accent isn’t to clear for me so I’m not 100%

Blue story was a UK based film referring to the gang beef in London between peckham and Lewisham / ghetto, the reason why it's called "blue story" is due to the colours that are associated with the ghetto gang which is blue and through out the film we as an audience follow this young innocent boy dragged into gang culture which inevitably ends tragically
(as a person from the UK I highly enjoyed and recommend this film as a way to connect to life in rougher London 🇬🇧❤️)

The scuba dive line is a reference to the Rolex Submariner a common watch among gang members flexing in the UK. It means he died living the gang life trying to get rich. It relates to the next line 'don't die by a sword that you used to shine.'

You guys would love ‘Survivors Guilt’ from the album, it’s a Drake/40 type beat produced by Dave layered with Jorja Smith vocals. The substance on that record is insane & it definitely puts his success at his young age of 23 into perspective.

On the flakey dealing bar, he's talking bout selling coke. "Flake" is a strong type on coke you get in UK and Ireland, and a code everyone uses for talking about coke / flake is "paint". So when your dealer texts you he says "got paint here" which means he has good coke. So "painting" the cistine chapel is a triple, like you said painting ceilings with their blood but also painting, flake, dealing coke. For my American friends who might not got that reference. Dave killed this so hard.

I don't know if I speak for the audience but I love your long videos, I watch this channel specifically for your breakdown so you should feel that you have to rush to get through them, unless it's to save your time then that's understandable but if it's to save ours it's unnecessary.

Idk of your American or English but if the latter you may have heard of @Leetothevi and he has done a whole album review which is a whopping 2 and a half hours long. He does into the fire for like half an hour lol. Definitely recommend if your looking for a long video to kill time.

That intro isn't a lie. I live in North London. Been here 5 years so far. The ambulances don't stop. In my area alone I've seen 3 people bleeding out with one who got stabbed literally seconds before I left the store. In front of everyone this older man got stabbed in the chest. I never stick around to find out what happened.
But yeah even in front of my job we've had the road closed off after stabbings. I've lived in France, Spain, US and Colombia. I can only compare it to Colombia. And I've seen videos shared around of people getting killed in front of everyone. A guy got stabbed as they got off the bus arguing. A kid called his dad to beat him up or something, the dad died. Bled out. But I've seen people shot too. It's getting bad especially since the pandemic

The whole album is a master piece. If you play the first song from the time it was released UK time (12am) the song “20 to 1” starts at exactly 12.40am !! Genius - his last bar of first tracks ends with “we are all alone” and the last bar of the last track is “in this together” ! 🤯

The writing and wordplay in this are really phenomenal. Definitely relate to the line about giving up on some dreams to keep body and soul together. This really is art. Blue Story is a British film about gang violence in London, in a similar vein to Scarface. This was extremely well done.

"the lam white in the seat, so I'm literally a wolf disguised in a sheep" is a genius bit of wordplay. the first sentence is Dave referring to the white leather seats in his Lamborghini. The logo for a Lamborghini is a charging ram and of course a ram is a male sheep. Tied into the saying "wolf in sheeps clothing" Dave is saying he's the still the tough guy from the street (wolf) but you wouldnt think it because you're distracted by his car.
I feel like I was taken on a journey. No idea of the destination, but it didn't matter. The story being told was just that enthralling.

The line where he mentions that the "right wrist scuba dives", I think he's referring to the watch on the wrist being a diver style watch, like a Rolex Submariner or some other expensive type of diver watch. My impression is that he was basically Implying that the dude died over a watch. Although I could be wrong since watches are typically worn on the left wrist.

I'm probably biased because I'm from the UK but I truly believe Santan Dave is the best lyricist currently active by a looong way. Nobody else can scheme and flow as clean as Dave whilst having IMPACTFUL bars not just a rhyme for the sake of it. Incredible talent, national treasure.
