      Barry Danial Peking duck's great, but definitely very fatty. Not sure if your stomach can handle it, lol.

    • @---oi3gs
      @---oi3gs 9 років тому

      +Charles Lin Then you've never had the real deal. The best peking ducks have almost no fat.

    • @nick2131
      @nick2131 9 років тому

      govahnator LOL, but ducks are naturally fatty though. No fat=No flavor.

    • @---oi3gs
      @---oi3gs 9 років тому

      Charles Lin That's not necessarily true. While fat can be flavorful, it is not the only element of flavor. Like I said, the best kind of peking ducks are an unique breed that has almost no visible fat.

    I just watched Heston Blumenthal (attempt) to recreate this iconic dish and his idea to crisp the skin is so outrageous it's beyond hope. I just dabble in Chinese cooking because my Dad who was a master at Chinese cuisine who was full Chinese. I have made this dish several times knowing it's full origin and having several recipes at hand have been very successful just by hanging it several days, (something which would make any Brit cringe)

    I remember a school banquet at this restaurant in 1986. The building looks the same, except the weird neon Donald Duck atop the building was gone by 1996 when I last visited Beijing.

      +WitchidWitchid actually, Dadong has the best Peking duck in Beijing not Quanjude. And I recommend you to buy Chinese desert in Daoxiangcun. There are around one hundred different kinds of delicious deserts, and all of them are amazing.

      Shark fins have no taste. It's all in the seasonings and other ingredients. I believe a lot of these Cantonese inspired dishes that are allegedly " very healthy" and thus expensive because they are hard to get, are a way to fool the rich because they want to constantly out do their neighbors. It is still true of the Chinese mentality today where they will spend money on frivolous things just to out do one another.
