Nice tutorial and I liked your use of the _'miniature persuasion tool'_ and it's interesting how when you're working with wood and metal and stone and even when doing tasks like cooking, what you can hear can sometimes be just as important as what you can see and feel...
You have to pull the 4 bolts holding the brake shoe to the axle there is a plate that prevents the seal from coming out. Took me forever to figure out why the seal wouldn't come out
thomas pitts I think they are an axle vent. I see similar vents on vehicle rear ends. If the sealed off and not leaking axle gets warm and air / axle fluid expands it must go somewhere. As far as the location, my guess is you would want it as high as the air cleaner because if you were mud bogging your ride and the water gets high enough for the air box you have completely submerged it anyways. If I have something wrong or someone truly knows please chime in, I would love to have more information. Thanks for asking and watching! ~Mr. C.
I have a kawasaki bayou 300 4x4 89', I replaced the rear right bearing as it was blown out on the brake drum side like you did, but I can't get the axle back in? Do I have to take that whole axle tube out like you did? And put the axle back in before the axle tube? I'm trying to put it in with the outter brake drum still attached, but I couldn't get the axle to go into the diff?
Bob Perley I am not sure. The reason I removed mine was because it was easier to remove the old bearing and install the new one. I have not worked on a 4x4 model so the axle and diff could be different than the 4x2 model. A final thought, could the brake shoes be spread out and larger than the drum due to the parking brake being applied? I would love to hear how everything turned out. ~ Mr. C.
@@NaturesCadenceFarm I took the bearing out, put the axle in, then bearing over the axle and lightly tapped the bearing back in. It saved me from having to remove the whole rear end.
Great video it saved my ass . So for like 2 years the overflow hoses that go way up top of my motor were leaking rear end fluid on top of my motor it stinks and, finally i connected them and then i blew a axle seal . Does anyone know why it always pukes its fluid out these hoses all the time ? Its like a siphon effect
chris deal that is odd. Only thing I can figure is the pressure in the axle increases as temperature increases and starts to erupt. I have never seen this condition on either of mine. Thanks for watching and asking. ~ Mr. C.
When u bolt the rear end back up do you need rtv or a gasket of some sort or do you just rebolt it ??? Seems like it would leak if no rtv aplied? I need to do my bayou 220 seal also atm
Jonah Boudreaux excellent observation. I thought the same thing. After looking over the design I determined it has a very tight fit and has not leaked yet. I do not see a problem putting some on there as long as you do not over do it. Thanks for watching. ~ Mr. C.
Rondeo ziegler I did not hear noise at high speed, it was just leaking really bad and getting axle fluid into the rear brakes. I would suggest looking into the bearings but the rear end could just be low on fluid due to a leak. Good luck. ~Mr. C.
Getting it done there Mr C, got your message other day however my reply didn't send. I am in the Danville location. put a return email in your next message try to catch up with you. Merry Christmas to you and the family.

Hey may what are the hoses that connect to the hub? They run up to and around behind the fuel tank. Is this for grease? Air?

What about the other side of the rear axle ? I'm guessing it's the same process ?
rusty shackleford you are correct. Exactly the same process. Thanks for asking and commenting. ~Mr. C.

Hello, where can I buy this sealing rubber online?
Bruno Andrade here is a link to the axle seals and bearings for the rear axle of a Bayou 220.

was your rear end making noise at high speed? Because mine is any thoughts?

I did a rear end oil change on mine and still made noise prob is bearing going out
If you re pack your bearings with marine grade grease they will last longer
Big head Red that is a great tip! Thanks for watching, commenting, and letting us know. ~ Mr. C.
