This is unconstitutional ( but so is murder ) ( innocent until proven guilty ) His lawyer is establishing indigence, in hopes of getting the bond reduced. However in a murder case, lowering the bond amount is unlikely.

I'll be honest with you, i wouldnt feel too sad about someone of own race being locked up who does this, but i understand your reasoning completely.
I know its best to stick together in a situation where you arent completely accepted by "others", but feeling bad for a man just because he is the same race as you puts you in a position where its easier to justify bad behaviour because you classify someone in the same "group" as yourself.
