I used to live in that apartment building. It was my first apartment on my own (1999)....I was on top floor left side of the building you almost went into. The guy under me had mental problems and tried to kill himself by lighting his apartment on fire with him in it. The only thing he killed was my 2 cats 😿 from smoke inhalation 💔. The fire wasn't that bad but I never moved back in.....they stayed open for a while after that....it was sold a few times too, but never taken care of. Eventually just closed about 10 years after I Ieft. The original name was Cherry Lane Apartments. It was a cute little place but the rent was SUPER low so it attracted a lot of addicts/riff-raff. The building in the parking lot was a maintenance storage. It's a scary place now 🙀 you guys are brave. I wouldn't even drive down there lol.
I had i friend that lived there in the 80s they were pretty low rent. Its really neat to see. Also it looked like my high school was gone, where the cop was sitting. That was west mifflin south high school. Ive been gone way to long.
I am from up around here but my parent moved to FL when I was 16. I still miss the feel and the brick buildings and just the area. But when I left it was like 91 and things were nice there that I remember.
The first thing that came to my mind when I saw the apartments was Cherry Lane....? Isn't that where students of the Institute of Aeronautics lived while attending the school?
I lived in the Pittsburgh area from 2003-2014 West Mifflin was a sump back then. Crime ridden and almost everything abandoned including the defunct Century III Mall. Century III mall was on its last leg in 2007. I dont understand how it lasted almost another decade.
I didn't even know about the neighborhood. Wonder what happened. It reminds me of Lincoln Way which isn't that far away from the apartments which is also now all torn down
Yeah over in Clairton/Wilson area. Any idea why all those houses were abandoned and eventually tore down? I thought underground mines but they have land for sale signs up now.
I believe it because of the last part of the Monfayette Expressway that will connect to the Pittsburgh airport and the 576 extension Although I thought the turnpike had already purchased the required land, did the initial environmental studies, and the initial designs for the roads and bridges for this area
@@patrickschardt7724 yes, if you look on google map timeline data and the map of the future highway, you can see homes that are demolished in the path in many places
Don't know if anyone has mentioned this, But the apartment building that you had zero information on was called "Valley View Court apartments." Good friends of mine lived there in the late 90's/early 2000's. From what they told me, It had terrible management/maintenance and not the best people lived there.
I think they're still there. Drove past them the last time I was in Pittsburgh towards the end of 2020..... If it's the ones I'm thinking of, the road doesn't go directly there and you have to walk in.
Wow! I remember hanging out IN these apartments back in college!
No mystery...the Turnpike Commission bought all of the neighborhood & some houses along Camp Hollow for the Route 43 expansion project.

This neighborhood was bought up for the continuation of route 43. Some one that works with our son lived there.
That would make sense. The other part of 43 (the last piece finally) is supposed to out near the main airport
Those last set of apartments that u looked at are pretty cool. They wont take them down for tax reasons

Yes it's Cherry Lane 👍
Very interesting that a public entity calls something they have private property.
And those buildings did not catch on fire first they just kick all the people out and then homeless people set it on fire
I think that I've seen this place before, gotta be careful there
I forgot to mention the last set of apartments that you went to see in this video the nickname for it was Cherry Lane
Great explore guys, Stay Safe 👋💀👍
If I remember correctly, I distributed pizza flyers as a high school job back in ‘09 to that abandoned housing plan
