Hey Nigel, great to see you are filling your new greenhouse with plants.
You can achieve more than just 5-6 degrees difference by using heater and a fan in one device. Search for greenhouse heaters, they perform much better in terms of benefit per energy spent.
And not to forget - they are meant to be used in greenhouses unlike your heater and fan you bought. This is actually dangerous, please be cautios.
I LOVE the greenhouse!!! An I love your rustic stand!
Everything looks good in The Bonsai Zone!🙂👍
I had a good giggle @ your commenting about the weeds in your nightshade bonsai! Those pesky weeds growing when you're cultivating another weed!
Yes, weeding my weed!
The new greenhouse is the perfect excuse to get more plants!
Resistance is futile, more trees will be assimilated into the Bonsai Zone, it is their destiny!
Hi Nigel ,hard work pays off. Well done with the green house it looks beautiful.
Love the Vietnam-style pots. The simple stand looks nice. I'm going to steal that idea. 🍻
The gang is all inside now. Looking great.
So cool to see you enjoying the greenhouse after the hard work!!
I'm really so happy for you and your new greenhouse! It's awesome to see it finished and immediately put to good use. Love it!
I like the look of that nightshade vine, too. And I don't know how long it will live, but one of our native vines, Virginia creeper (Parthenocissus quinquefolia) is very long-lived here, and the trunk gets really thick.
Still loving the nightshade Nigel! it's amazing you've gotten it to ramify so well. Mine never divides when I prune it. Must be the Bonsai Zone touch!
Thanks Colin, I hope it does well for many years ahead!!
Missed the premiere but love how the greenhouse looks full of bonsai! Beautiful light shining on the trees as well.
Those Bougainvilleas look awesome!
It will live forever! Cus it’s a love
Awesome space to work on your trees
I've already been out to the greenhouse this morning, it's so warm and peaceful!
Love how the new green house is looking so awesome Nigel!!!
I just planted a bunch of (probably Norway) maples for stratification and as I inted to keep my trees short, this video with trident maple pruning was quite on the spot for that!
I've been also eagerly been looking at the virginia creeper change to fall colours on the opposite building, I might sneak myself a cutting next spring. Unfortunately we don't have nightshades here, I love the flowers on that.
Awesome Aija, my Virginia Creeper has already lost it's leaves, it did have fantastic fall colours!!
The night shade has really grown and looking very tree like, especially after the pruning. Glad to see you enjoying your little tropical paradise ! 👍
Thanks J, whenever you are out and about, drop in for a visit!!
Makes me happy to see that blue girl got her tree back.
Nigel, it’s so exciting to see this proper greenhouse come to fruition!
For filming, it seems there’s a lot of backlighting that makes good exposure of the trees tricky.
I think you could put a pull down shade on that back wall to use as a filming backdrop, and just retract it when you’re done - very low profile and good for production value :)
Excellent!! Last night I was wondering how long it would be till we get to see an update on the scaring of the portulacaria afra. Thanks for the update, perfect timing!!
These videos on fall pruning are very helpful. I have a lot of pruning to do! I’m very interested in the future progression of the Royal oaks too. I’d like to get some English oak acorns.
Nigel get yourself a Bluetooth temperature sensor for both greenhouses, they track temperature and humidity, I like the brand Govee, take a look on Amazon. Then u can have a graph of temperature and humidity over time very useful
Without "smartphone" is almost imposible 🕺🏻
So beautiful
Thank you so much!!
The new greenhouse is the cat's meow Nigel! the trees looks so beautiful in it!
Lisa
Thanks Lisa, I find it hard to leave, I just love tinkering around in it!
Love the new greenhouse.....
Thanks Angelo!
Fantastic job on the greenhouse. I hope you enjoy it for many years!
rad episode dude
Nightshade! Nice work.
What a nice bonsai
We had those ferns growing all over in our woods along the creek. (NE Wisconsin). They die back totally in the winter and come back stronger than ever every spring.
Hi Nigel. Wondered if you had seen the trees of fanal forest in madeira laurisilva. I saw them and thought of you! They're so interesting
No I hadn't, I just looked them up, wow so fantastic!!! Very inspirational, thanks Georgina!!
mymodernmet.com/fanal-forest-albert-dros/
Wow quite the collection you have there Nigel.
Hi Nigel, I think your fern plant should be a lady fern (Athyrium filix-femina)plant. How about your giant sequoia seedling now?
The pot you have your Fern in matches the paint/rust combination on your bonsai bench almost perfectly... look at 26:46...
Thanks, lol, I knew there was a reason I liked that pot!!! Jay from Blue Jay Bonsai was over today, he mentioned how much he liked your video when you visited here!!
the bonsai look good and nice temperature nice place 👍
Thank you very much!
Good.!
That wood stand would look great as a shou sugi ban design with a colour wood dye ✌️
There is high probability that this fern is hardy, if it grew all by itself. Ferns have a little bit complicated lifecycle, and so it is much more likely that is germinated out of spores from garden ferns, than houseplants.
Good work in a happy place! :)
Thanks Marysol, indeed a happy place!
nice work! Being productive :)
Yes! Thank you!
Everything looks awesome in your new hot house. The xmas cactus is also known as Zygo cactus
Thanks Matt, I like that name!!
Nice... I always support you
Beutiful
Fun
Thanks Denise!
25:39 all your trees will love that 30c! surprised that humidity is only 55% though. wonder why as you can see condensation on inner glass.. and thanks for long video! :)
For some reason I thought you were only going to keep 8 trees in the new greenhouse 🤣
Like the pot that you have with the nightshade plant. Is it handmade? So happy for you on the final construction of the greenhouse. It is such a wonderful home for your bonsai. What an AWESOME place to work on bonsai. I'm envious!
Hello Pat, the pot is actually a plastic pot that was full of concrete and had an artificial bonsai in it! I do have a handmade pot for it coming this spring. I do like the style of the plastic one, I might try and make one out of clay like it!
I would guess that fern is the same fern from your backyard, it's the most logical guess!
Maybe, the ones in the backyard have all died back, but I have one in the front that still is nice and green!
what happend to the big industrial greenhouse you got a couple of year ago?
Do you have space for the bigger greenhouse too?
What kind of clamp light are you using, I'm looking to see if It can be something that will work in my particular application? The Greenhouse looks amazing!!! Such an amazing and beautiful place to grow, and enjoy what nature has to offer. I can't imagine the possibility of having such an amazing opportunity!!
Have loved watching the greenhouse come together and get populated. Very thoughtful of you to include fahrenheit conversions - I can think in celsius but when you say "5 degrees cooler" it's a bit more of a challenge to convert the difference and then also subtract on the fly.
I'm wondering if anyone knows of a Discord server dedicated to Bonsai - surely there must be a few, in which to share tips and photographs?
Thanks!!
I think it’s a leather leaf fern 😍😍
Thanks!!
One day Nigel you can actually do a closeup of the liver wart , I have no idea of what it looks like
Hello Nigel, I love your channel. You are the most natural teacher with a very subtle style. Would you be willing to look at a pic and give advice? I have a branch cutting from a 35 year old jade and am not sure what style I should train it to. I have watched many of your videos and could probably figure it out but would love your thoughts. Thank you.
For that fern, it looks like a Korean Rock Fern. Are the leaves really hard/firm?
Hey Nigel, what is the avg humidity you keep in the green house. Trying to figure out how to recreate and grow roots in the soil just like that Auction tree here California. Thanks.
I'll check out the numbers tomorrow and post them, so fat it has been going anywhere from 90 percent to 55 percent, it depends on a lot of factors, sunlight, temperature, how much I mist, etc
Just wondering with the trident maple or any deciduous tree, is there a benefit to waiting till the leaves drop off before pruning as the tree will reclaim some energy / nutrients from the leaves as it drops them off?
Yes, it is better to wait! I did it now just because I'd probably be too busy later to get to it!
Nigel, you should put a small panda close to the grass
That would be awesome!!
Maybe add something painted black to absorb heat and dissipate the heat over night. 50gal drum filled with water painted black.
hi nigel, i have been doing research for 30 minutes but cnnot find how old the nightshade can get somehow. if u have any info i would like too hear it! amazing tree!!!!
They can live for a long time.
(For a weed)
I'd say they can live for 4 years in the wild. so I bet it would for about 10-20 years if you take care of it
By the way I know this because they grow like weeds here in Texas.
Hope I helped!
Never mind wrong plant
@@tannerdukes8690 hahaha np
Thinking about Athyrium distentifolium or Athyrium filix
Wish i could show you my night shade bonsai
Foist
The King has claimed the title today!!
Nigel, just for curiosity, do you know Loreena McKennitt?🙂
Yes, I do, I see her almost every week!
Hi I also have a new trident maple Nigel I live in the USA Virginia I was wondering if they need to go dormant and also what is the coldest temperatures it can survive in it’s just a little bit bigger than yours thank you for your help your channel is my favorite your awesome
That greenhouse is awesome - in and of itself!
You do realise as well though it's the ultimate ManCave? There are no criticisms that holds up to scrutiny:
Why did you spend all that time building it?
Because I'm going to put all the sensitive trees in there, or they'll die. Aw!
Are you going to go and drink / take drugs / party with your friends / get up to nefarious stuff in there?
No, you can see through the walls. I'm just going to go in there and look at beautiful plants. I can't smoke stuff in there, the plants will die, and if I'm stocius on booze, I'll fall through the glass. Or stab myself with sharp tools. You can come and join me if you like, but there's no drink, drugs, nothing on the walls to stick a picture to / dartboard on anyway like a rumpus shed, and no lock on the door.
If you eat the red berries I can't guarantee you won't go for a loop and see the future, but we're not doing that.
Why are you spending all that time in there?
Because it's beautiful, and the trees will live for hundreds of years, it's a net social benefit. And good for my vitamin D and mental health.
😃
Only kidding! It's very nice and glad you built it, it was nice watching you do it!
In Finland not find Elephant tree.
I am so sad.
That’s strange! They are very common. Do you mean Portulacaria Afra?
@@user-fb3pu3qx3t Jep
@@astasaarelainen1317 Maybe there is an import ban. I want to grow a Willow Ficus like Nigel’s but they are banned in the UK for some reason. I would send you a cutting if I could!
Please please please take the thermometer off the cardboard. My OCD kicks in every time you show it. 😩😩😂
How would I hang it up, lol!!
@@TheBonsaiZone you’re a fully fledged contractor now, work something out. Build a wee wooden frame. 🤪
