Hope you enjoyed the video! That closes out 2024 for the channel, and I wanted to get this out before the steam sale started. As always, let me know if you have recommendations for me to play next year.
Just wanted to thank you for continuing to post reviews for my favorite genre! Hoping that this can help fund a game or two for you to enjoy in 2025 🙂 I’d recommend checking out Shogun Showdown, which was my favorite roguelike of 2024 (very similar to Into The Breach, which is my favorite game) 🙂 P.S. I tried posting a comment and tip last week but it never showed up 🤷🏼♂️ UA-cam support still hasn’t gotten back to me about it (shockingly haha), but hopefully it got to you and this is just extra 😂
Thank you so much! Greatly appreciate your support. I'll use it to finish grabbing a couple games in the steam sale that I was going back and forth on. I grabbed Shogun Showdown earlier this year, but need to actually boot it up haha. I see it mentioned a lot in people's 2024 favorites/lists, so near the top of my list for 2025. And I just checked, and looks like I got one on the 18th (which I'm assuming was you)! I can't actually see the comment itself anywhere though for some reason (and classic support lol).
Excellent reviews! Particularly agree with Astral Ascent. I was really excited to play it in 1.0 but was disappointed by how floaty and weightless it felt and ultimately didn't continue playing after beating the first 3 run levels (I forgot how they are called but you had to beat it like 7 times IIRC). I plan to revisit it after they release the updates they announced for next year, or maybe earlier, to see if I like it better this time around.
Thanks for the awesome video! Watching through it now. Some of these I've played and loved, and some more I definitely need to tackle. Still waiting on that ToME review though 😉
Thanks for your awesome update! Other Roguelike I played in 2024 include Shogun: Showdown, Knock on the Coffin Lid, Spell Rogue, Breachway, Hero's Wanted and .. Against the Storm (fastest loading game ever) & the Last Spell (again).
Knock on the Coffin Lid looks great! I'll have to check out some of those others. The Last Spell has been sitting in my steam library, and I need to actually play it
gatekeeper is top down but not isometric, as can be seen when you move, as the perspective of object changes (you can see more of the left or right of the object). This does not happen in isometric perspective.
Oh interesting. I always thought of isometric as viewing the area from any angle and top down as literally fully looking down on things. But that different makes sense!
Great list, sometimes from the commentary It seemed like you didn't enjoy most of them that much 😅 Good you noticed at the end that you played games that were updated in the meanwhile. For example, The Rogue Prince of Persia was definitely changed in the last updates, not only for the art style but for build variety, meta progression and so on. And new updates are already in the roadmap for 2025. Anyway, great video, you gave me some good references for the future!
That's fair lol. I try to add some pros and cons for each game even if I enjoy them so people why they might or might not like them, but this year as had some big let downs for me (Vertical Kingdom, Wild Bastards, and GTTOD for example). Still a great year as a whole for the ones that I loved! And been planning to return to The Rogue Prince of Persia at full release, so good to see they have it planned out well.
@InsertReviews absolutely! It's meaningless say that everything is good if it's not, I prefer to hear some critiques because I give more value to positive points! Especially considering how many games are out there, it's better to know the downsides to do a Better choice. Yeah Evil Empire Is doing an amazing job with this game, I hope sales can have a boost next year because they deserve It. Let's see! 💪 Congrats again for your great work on this
Rogue Prince's parkour mechanic threw me off so badly when I first played it that I almost returned it, but I'm glad I stuck with it. Warm Snow and Hades II are both scratching that Hades itch, even if H2 is the obvious winner there.
Cool video; I'm enjoying it! However, there are no traditional roguelikes in your list! Which would be games like Caves of Qud, Cogmind, Brogue, Dwarf Fortress, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, etc…
You didn't play ravenswatch and windblown? Missing out here. Also Spiritfall feels the best to play, i feel like build variety could indeed be a bit better but i don't mind because it just plays so well
I recommend you play Blazblue Entropy Effect if you haven’t yet. It’s pretty good with how many unlockable characters that can make every run different from your last
Too many card games and turn-based games lol I still can’t get into those genres and am looking for a good gateway game. Any recommendations? I tried Darkest Dungeon and Monster Train but ended up dropping both after about an hour each.
I think Slay the Spire, Balatro, and Monster Train are the best roguelite card game starting points generally, so I would try those other two. For turn-based roguelite that aren't card games, Inkbound is probably my favorite off the top of my head though admittedly most turn-based roguelites I play tend to be card games or deckbuilders more broadly. Ultimately depends what you're looking for, but some people just never click with certain genres like me and survivor-likes lol. Darkest Dungeon is also hit or miss for people in my experience.
I would also recommend slice & dice (a lot of customization), the last spell (tactics), gordian quest (more RPG leaning), or cobalt core (battlefield movement), depending on what you like in a game
For within run builds or between run progression? I haven't seen anything like that within runs, partly because runs aren't really long enough to get that kind of scale. I would bet that some traditional roguelikes or some survivor-like/bullet heaven games might be the best bet for finding something like that. Progression wise, the closest might be like rogue legacy 2? Some games like children of morta have much smaller trees. Nothing quite the same though.
I really miss action roguelike. You know the ones not too serious with very various and overpowered build. Games like isaac, crypt, neon abyss, gungeon... Yes we had hades or astral ascent. I like this games but they are a bit too serious for me.
@@InsertReviews Thank you for reminding me about roboquest. That game is always super expensive in my country but I just got it for a more reasonable price at the winter sale ;*
Hope you enjoyed the video! That closes out 2024 for the channel, and I wanted to get this out before the steam sale started. As always, let me know if you have recommendations for me to play next year.
Thanks for all the work man, youre the best roguegames channel by far and good reviewer.
Thanks, appreciate it!
Thanks for mentioning Realm of Ink! Happy gaming everyone!♥
Thanks for the game and good luck on 1.0!

@ Awesome! Glad the other tip got to you 🙂 Hope you enjoy Shogun Showdown and looking forward to your videos in 2025 🙂
Glad to see you popping off bro keep up the 10/10 content
Such a great year for roguelikes, great vid!
I appreciate the effort to make a video reviewing so many games. Great content as always!
W video. Enjoyed seeing your thoughts on these roguelike/roguelite games. Pretty strong year for the genre imo
Thanks mate , always looking forward for your new posts.
Appreciate it!

Great video!
Great video dude, thanks!
So hyped every time I see one of these from you :D awesome af

One of these days for the ethereal ToME review
@InsertReviews it really is just an incredible game, haha. And there's supposedly a new DLC coming out sometime.
Thanks for your awesome update! Other Roguelike I played in 2024 include Shogun: Showdown, Knock on the Coffin Lid, Spell Rogue, Breachway, Hero's Wanted and .. Against the Storm (fastest loading game ever) & the Last Spell (again).

Very well done video with lots of good info, thank you
I had much fun with Cobalt Core too

Megaloot just got a pretty big update that has changed a lot of how runs playout and builds progress. Its pretty interesting.
Great list, sometimes from the commentary It seemed like you didn't enjoy most of them that much 😅

Congrats again for your great work on this
Its me again, still waiting on your Devil Slayer thoughts😊 Thanks for the vid.

I don't know what it is, but Hades I and II are satisfying but never pull me in deep enough to keep playing for a long time.
Great video, hopefully more videos in 2025!
You are the undisputed world champion of adding vocal fry to the last word of every sentence you speak.
great video
Awesome video man! but can you make the timestamps please? it would be great ^^
There have been timestamps in the description! UA-cam wasn't pulling them in for some reason, but it seems to be fixed now for me.
@InsertReviews thanks! glad to know.
Cool video; I'm enjoying it! However, there are no traditional roguelikes in your list! Which would be games like Caves of Qud, Cogmind, Brogue, Dwarf Fortress, Cataclysm: Dark Days Ahead, etc…
Hades mods are 🔥 right now. OlympusExtra adds so much to the original game that could be covered in its own video. Try it out!
Would be interested in hearing your thoughts on breachway. I enjoyed the demo but I’m hesitant about buying it in early access yet
It looks interesting, but I've honestly also been waiting for it to leave EA before grabbing it.
You didn't play ravenswatch and windblown? Missing out here. Also Spiritfall feels the best to play, i feel like build variety could indeed be a bit better but i don't mind because it just plays so well
man, u definetelly should try diceomancer - its deckbuilder that brings quite unique expirience
Thank You.
I recommend you play Blazblue Entropy Effect if you haven’t yet. It’s pretty good with how many unlockable characters that can make every run different from your last
rogue PoP , H2 , ravenswatch
just the fact that i dont need uplay app to play a ubisoft game on steam is dope
Surprised you didnt play Dicomancer, highly recommend it, even tho it has limited content
It's on my list! Planning to grab it this winter sale actually. I've seen it has great reviews
Wildfrost is one of the best card roguelites Ive ever played
Too many card games and turn-based games lol
I still can’t get into those genres and am looking for a good gateway game. Any recommendations? I tried Darkest Dungeon and Monster Train but ended up dropping both after about an hour each.
slay the spire is the answer.
I think Slay the Spire, Balatro, and Monster Train are the best roguelite card game starting points generally, so I would try those other two. Have you played any roguelike/lites that have a massive skill tree akin to something like path of exile?
For within run builds or between run progression? I haven't seen anything like that within runs, partly because runs aren't really long enough to get that kind of scale. I would bet that some traditional roguelikes or some survivor-like/bullet heaven games might be the best bet for finding something like that.
Progression wise, the closest might be like rogue legacy 2? Some games like children of morta have much smaller trees. Nothing quite the same though.
Check out ballionaire it's fantastic
I just grabbed! It looks really interesting
I really miss action roguelike. You know the ones not too serious with very various and overpowered build. Games like isaac, crypt, neon abyss, gungeon...
Yes we had hades or astral ascent. I like this games but they are a bit too serious for me.
Bad year for me, didn't find anything that truly made the cut long-term
great reviews but the burger king foot lettuce cadence gets old
No really good fps😢
Deadlink was certainly the best of the bunch, but yeah not on Roboquest or Gunfire Reborn level
@@InsertReviews Thank you for reminding me about roboquest. That game is always super expensive in my country but I just got it for a more reasonable price at the winter sale ;*
Would it kill you to add timestamps? Lazy. 🙄
You sound like an entitled and ungrateful person.
