Wow, 9 years later, and this is recommended to me. I was a tween when I used to watch your videos. Now I'm at university studying things like calculus and probability. I like how you just taught one part of optimization, which took my AP calculus class a week to figure out. Rohan Zener Uhmmmmm...not that I want to be that guy...but I actually do have Asperger Syndrome in an ironic twist. And while I appreciate the thought, let's not just resort to outright shit-flinging. I mean nothing good comes out of that for either party. EDIT: Oh, this was a different strig of comments than where I thought this was. Whoops.
Rohan Zener Asperger Syndrome is a real subclassification of autism. Its referred to now as "Autism Spectrum Disorder," however. Its classified as a "higher functioning level of autism," meaning that it doesn't affect you to an extreme degree - as in the case of an autism subclass such as Pervasive Developmental Disorder or Childhood Disintegrative Disorder, but considering that I was diagnosed by an actual doctor and perscribed a low dosage of medication for it, I'm pretty sure that the disorder isn't the fairytale you make it out to be.
+Rohan Zener Actually, under the DSMV there is no diagnoses of aspergers just ASD or autism spectrum disorder, it was reclassified to be more accurate and perhaps to bend to the rising pressure from the Autistic community to get rid of functioning labels, aspergers is, by definition, autism which has nothing to do with sociopathy, and yes, autism is a real thing, it's a developmental disability, aka it changes the way the brain develops, it's by no mea

Every comment is a different age, this videos special, its not the type that was randomly pushed out to everyone at once at a random day, but a video that we each get pushed to us individually when we're ready
That was awesome. Literally, this whole video had stuff that I learned in my AP Calculus class--one of my favorite classes of high school. This shows a very unique, yet relatable example of optimization of area and volume which can help any novice calculus student grasp the concept. I know that I am a visual person and need an answer to "so what?" when we learn such concepts. Really interesting video--very enjoyable to watch. :)
Exile N Subjugate XD I know... She is truly amazing. Halfway through the video I realize I'm watching someone *calculate how to best serve mash- I mean, mathed potatoes to hold the most gravy* and absolutely loving it ^u^
So, we've optimised gravy pool area, but what about the surface area of the potato covered? Maybe you should make a disc of mathed potatoes at the bottom with a short but large cylinder of mathed potatoes on top? Should we make a sierpinski potato, or a sierpotato? I need to know.
+Triple Layer Animator It's more like you wash them before you boil them. However all the vitamins and healthy stuff in potatoes are in shell (or wth it's called).
Oh, Vi I love your way of putting math into my life xD I always thought it was boring, due to the regular way of presenting it in school, bit it is so much fun, when you see shapes, symmetries and connections all around you ^^ btw Turkeys are totally sphere-shaped due to optimal stuffing possibilites!
But... If you continue taking smaller and smaller slices of the turkey, then eventually, you will arrive at the derivative of the turkey, which would appear to be not just chopped or sliced turkey, but a gravy or purée or pâté of turkey. Then if you perform a single integration on the messy mass of turkey, you re-integrate to find the volume of the whole turkey, or perhaps a fourth-dimensional or higher-dimensional turkey with successive re-integrations and.... Really, you need to introduce cranberry sauce for a proper trans-dimensional egenerated re-integrated turkey. Because, cranberries.

I found this video to be very informative and helpful. The next time I attend a party and/or family gathering where potatoes happen to be involved I will be sure too educate my relatives on how they have been using the incorrect ratio of gravy to mashed potatoes for their entire lives. After they get over their life altering mistake, I will then teach them how to construct two wide, hallow, and shallow potatoes circles in order to ensure maximum gravy capacity. I am sure that some of my less intelligent family members will try to make one extremely large, hallow circle and I will be forced to scold them and tell them that their gravy to potato ratio is still incorrect. I do however have one question, will this technique work with red potatoes or only the standard potatoes you used in your demonstration?
Am I the only sane human who removes the skin from the potatoes before mathing them? Also, adding a bit of milk to mathed potatoes will help them with the math.
you scare my with that knife Vi. Knowing the history of videos with creepy music such as the sharpie song, socks are not ghosts, so on and so forth; I think that it is best if I just replace they knife with a butter knife, maybe a spoon? ~A Concerned Subscriber
