It is sad when you can't do what you want on your property because someone in an office somewhere has a different plan for it.
Not a damn thing wrong with keeping your property clean The place looks like a junkyard That's what they're bitching about
You'll never truly own it when you have to pay a property tax to keep it
You'll never truly own it when you have to pay a property tax to keep it
@Paul That's really not at all even similar to communism.
I mean if your neighbour wanted to open a rendering plant/race track/fireworks testing facility, would that be ok with you? Keeping in mind that opening any of those businesses would crater your property values.
Yeah he’s sleeping in a shipping container instead of his camper... and even if he actually was living in a shipping container wtf are you doing on his property?
Come on my property and they will go to the hospital cause i would think they are there to steal my shit
Our founding Fathers would probably be disgusted at what this Country has become.
Shuge Knight Come on, no one cares about the Indians, if we didn't make that Evident from the Trail of Tears, i don't know how else to explain it to you.
MyName Jeff the the white man stole this land from the Native American
Will Jackson what he said IS true tho the americas were populated with natives long before any english colony was set up and most tribes have gone extinct along with their unique culture.
T Ritchie they wouldn’t even bother getting out of bed if they see how America would become today.
Shuge Knight you say the Indians I’m Kiowa. If the whites did not come do all there taking and killing would America be a first world country or a third world shit hole like Africa. Or India. So to be clear someone random neighbor trespasses onto his property snoops around entering his work space etc... then proceeds to file a report?
Clearly there is something wrong with this picture.
GF SirJames I Gamerfuzion A half decent lawyer would tear this to Shreds.
Too bad lawyers are so expensive
GF SirJames I Gamerfuzion in my state unfortunately it’s not considered trespassing unless you have no trespassing signs every 12 15ft on a tree and if u own acres of land it really really is f** ridiculous
sir I come from Scotland, we use common sense, if you break into something you know isn,t yours, you know you have broke the law, without needing a stupid fucking wee sign to tell you, and as evidence is obtained illegally,it is not permisable in a court of law, my understanding this is basic common law everywhere regardless of country. also the equipment let the trespasser know he was on private land.
sadly here in the good ol' US of A.....things aren't what they used to be....peoples morals aren't what they used to be....and even a wee little sign isn't going to help anymore....
this is how you get armoured bulldozers driving around trashing the city
The problem I have with the crazy government is that you can’t walk the cities sidewalks for the homeless camp out on them but you tell the man that saves buys lands he can’t stay in a a dwelling that don’t pass code on his private property. Clean up the city streets before you worry about private property
Exactly.... However corrupt government makes no effort to deal with homeless cause there's no money in it for them. Ahhhh, once you own property, they can regulate and fine you into oblivion. You are their personal bank. And you will pay every time you turn around to some fat ass sitting at a desk somewhere that you pay to sit at that desk to think of new ways to take your money. It's devilishly clever.
They didn't care if he bought the property but it looked pretty junked up to me. No reason he can't store his tools etc in with the dresser. To me it looks like he is still in homeless encampment mode. Just tidy it up as you go. If no restrictions he will have it looking like a junk yard soon. It brings down peoperty values for others.
They need to leave him alone.

Once a neighbor makes a complaint, the inspector can go on your land and it's not tresspassing, unless you have a fence or barrier that he would have to open or pass. Then it becomes tresspassing.
He should find out who turned him in and press charges for tresspasing

Throat punch the neighbor, hit them with trespassing and contact a lawyer, you don't need these kind of people sneaking around your property.
In my area I once got a citation for the trash on the curb that was placed outside on trash pick-up day that was removed within an hour of being placed there long before the citation arrived. Yeah, there's no sense to things like this. If you could be cited for trash being placed at the appointed location for removal by the city which you pay the city to remove then you could be cited for literally anything.
Homeless man saves up and works hard to be more independent AND not requiring handouts from the system. Instead, the system yanks the rug out from underneath him and puts him back to square one. Yeah, something doesn't feel right to me.

@love is my religion , if u don't pay yr " rent" (property tax), you'll find out who really owns that property.
if someone went on his property get a criminal trespassing charge
The law needs to be changed and the guy that called in needs to be arrested
if he was in process of building/preping to build it is an active construction zone therefore it would be illegal to remove him from his property
the guy going into his property and looking around should also get fined
NO FINES, Shoot first then find out why he "didn't" need a cup of sugar, that backhoe could talk care of the problem as well, but 12 feet deep!!
Charge withe breaking and entering if he went in the container
The way you solve this problem is to bring a lawsuit against the city leveling the fines to force the city to buy you out and pay all stroage and relocation fees untile you can fine a new property i didd that where i live and the city backed down really fast also made a civil rights issue of the matter and when word got out the city was threatened with another 20 similar suits that was when the city repealed their little code violations
You're not wrong but this guy cannot afford an attorney nor the time to fight that long, expensive battle.

Codes and standards are for his safety? So it's safer for him to be homeless? I'd rather he live in the dam storage container than on the street. I'd rather he have his tools and belongings lying around the property rather than in the streets. Mostly I'd rather people mind there own business and let him do as he please on his own property
There was a huge protest of that kind of housing, flophouses were what they were called. But then new taxes, laws, etc. Pushed by people who wanted better living conditions for people. in reality you just became homeless and a criminal.
TonyBrainerdMN. Codes and safety are everyone's business. I'm a Coloradoan, I lived in Bailey about 8 mi. from Conifer, a mtn town about 20 mi. west of Denver. We are in a severe drought with a limited water supply. Forest fires are of major concern. The deadfall from aspens and pines is a tinderbox waiting to explode. Clem here went and had all his improvements installed on the property, so I think once he's in compliance of fire safety, zoning, and code he should be able to move forward. I would suggest to anyone buying land in the Rocky Mountains to plan better and be aware of hazards, requirements and restrictions. All that information is free.

It's not like he's in the middle of a city... even if he was if he owns it, he should be able to do what the hell he wants. Oddly, on a city lot he could probably park his motor home with no problems.

I agree with live and let live. If what your doing doesn't hurt anybody or environment, is out of sight then bug off. As far as campers in cities, many have restrictions. No living in and some not even overnighting.
that would make the point at least. I just don't get why they make such stupid regs. A man should be free to do what he wants on his own property, and to hell with anyone that doesn't like it. Time to hang all the politicians I think.
This is just disurbing.
The man WAS homeless and now that he's actually trying to make something of himself you start slapping him with fines?
Also I didn't see JUNK. I saw a bunch of tools and equipment (which is likely the intentional use of that big metal storage container).
Also "neighborhood expectations" being played the way shown here is why homeowner assoications are a dying breed.
If I'm gonna buy a piece of land to live on it's gonna be between me and uncle sam what the rules are.
I bet the neighbors that complained just don't want a house built where they are used to going for thier walks on. They are using thier excuses to keep the lot empty.
Neighbor would be homeless if I was this guy and neighbor's meddling made me homeless again.
I get the public health concerns, but on a property this size most of those concerns do not translate to a public threat or nuisance. If they want to guide him on better placement of his equipment to prevent a fire, I get it, so advise him on things that actually affect public safety. Even if he was sleeping in a trailer, how would that differ from a tent? There are so many arguments of substance to have on these overly abusive rules/regs/laws.
So this was posted in 2017 - Does anyone know what happened with this man. I hope some caring people came to his aid and helped him out both legally and also with his property clean up...getting him started on the home building.
He should find a attorney and sew the heck out of the neighbor as well as have him arrested for trespassing.
Sooooo you would have him make his trespassing neighbor a new suit?...Personally I would sue him for trespass.
@Christina Bonvillian Read the OP again, he said "sew the heck out of the neighbor" Shadow Banned just made a joke out of OP saying sew instead of sue.

No, he can't. You can't buy a lot next to mine and open up a junkyard. There are these things called building codes and zoning regulations for a reason.
So a construction site to build a domicile is opening a junkyard?
Trespassers will be shot on site/sight.

Proud Jackbooted Thug I had to leave CO back in early 2017 moved to Texas and I've never been more successful.
When you buy some land, the first thing you need to do is plant trees and bushes near the property lines to block and obscure the prying eyes, put in a gate that you keep closed, and when you bring stuff onto your property make sure it is kept out of sight and under cover so no one can see it and complain.
There probably was not a complaint by a neighbor. Most likely the anonymous tip.
Which means there is some highly respected person wanting a cheap landgrab
Watch , if he is forced to sell, or worse loses the property to taxes , fines , and a flawed legal system, the neighbor that originally complained will swoop in and buy the land. After the electricity, water, and such has been done. And likely for less than the man paid. Guy used his inheritance so likely doesn’t have the money to afford an attorney to help him.
This is an opportunity for a fine upstanding law firm to step in and help this gentleman. Maybe a go fund me account to help with legal fees?

Nobody should have any right to tell you what you can or can't do on your own property 💯
Does anyone have any news on what happened to this poor man's situation? I can't find a damn thing on the internet, just the same articles from 2017.
Just like property taxes, can’t afford to pay taxes on land that is “yours” so much for actually owning land.
Some people needs to mind their own business !!! and stay away from other people property. Ugh hate that kind of people

What a nice neighbor, doesn't come over and offer to help, see what the situation status is, but calls in the government. Wonder what happened?
The neighbor belongs in jail.
And City council members wonder why people are tempted to walk in and do something horrible?
The American dream doesn't exist anymore
And this is yet another reason why me and my family are planning on moving right up out of the good old US of s*** A
I seem to remember another Coloradan man going on a rampage with a bulldozer when he was wronged in a similar fashion.
Does nobody in that state ever learn anything?
the county should move the county corporation out and put a government back in place, then say something
Just goes to show how the system is designed to keep poor people poorer. It wasn't a neighbor who complained, it was a local official looking to extort you for more money.
Cases like this is why we have human judges, and not just mechanically driven rubber stamps on every complaint.
basic codes are put in place to give us more fines.
Save him
Remember "They hate us for our freedom" What Freedom?
Just because someone complains, it doesn't give them the right to resolution on their terms. The property owner's rights supersedes anyone else's. The burden is on the complaintant to prove harm or damages, not on the property owner to prove that he doesn't.
Hope the snitch relize he just made enemies with his neighbor
The court summons is illegal. The case filings are as well because of false pretenses.
So, basically, this man has to do absolutely nothing, and I hope he is still there on his property, living life as he should be. As the Divines have intended.
Now that’s America! Guy owns the land! WTF! That county should not exist in America! Disgusting! Those in office need to go!

Why doesn't someone help him instead of complaining. Love thy neighbor.
he can put a fence up then it will be covered. But put it just inside his property line if anyone climbs it they will be trespassing
The Constitution protects people from the government. But corporations don't have to follow those rules.
The person who made the complaint should be charged with trespassing and put in jail. It is people like him that makes the country not so great.
Unreal, some people are not happy unless they are causing issues!
Eminent domain the neighbor and protest the summons on lack of jurisdiction. Codes and statutes are not law. Common law and UCC are the law of the land.
"Common law and UCC" ... LMAO!
See how far THAT gets you when the cops slap cuffs on you and drag you to court.
My elderly aunt and a friend tried it ... and it didn't work out well. LOL!
If he can't afford to move his equipment, how can he afford to build a house there?
buy supplies and build his own house?? moving everything with trucks would cost about the same as supplies to build a small house
He budgeted his money down to this last penny as to what will be needed to build his house.
This is the same government that says “we will end homelessness! Now give us more tax money.”
They'd better end homelessness, they certainly could in a heartbeat, for a lot less than you think.
The neighbors have a lot more control of the land you think you own !
This is crap. Some rich neighbor wants a pristine neighborhood and refuses to put up with people who can't afford to have everything perfect before they move in! Typical of so many people in Colorado. Not everyone, but a majority of people.
Terrible leave the man alone to do as he pleases on his own land. Officials want to kick him off his land and if he was homeless in the streets they would want to kick him off public spaces. I hope someone can help him get this settled. Better yet hopefully those officials use some common sense and take his situation into account. He is obviously trying to set up the land to live there.
Ridiculous! Unbelievable!
Is there a follow up to this story? Would like to know if things turned out well for Mr. Smith.

Those county officials are trying to steal his land for their own development project.
Same thing is happening to me.I pay 900.dollers a month on my property. Now the city wants me out.Not fair because I have a house on this property and I can't stay sometimes in my rv. What kind of law is this
He owns that land he should be able to do what he pleases with it
People live in public parks, streets, under bridges and so on, but not allowed on property owned by them. Today’s politicians at work governing the land of the free
I looked at buying land in Colorado and build a tiny home. Apparently, they had an onslaught of folks plopping down RVs on a lot and calling it home. Some were nice, some were trashed. I'm in Wyoming
Lol! It’s my property! What I do with it is none of anyone’s business! Class dismissed!
That is hilarious. In Denver they will let the homeless pitch a tent on a sidewalk and the store owner that he has camped on can do nothing about it. But go out in the country where no one gets hurt and you are on your own land, and all of a sudden they have complete control over you. Sue them for being so inconsistent.
Why can’t people mind there on dam business? Also why was this “ neighbor “ trespassing on private land?
Exactly
Illegally obtained evidence and therefore inadmissible in court. If the neighbour were invited, that would be a different matter but they weren't.
Good question. Why isn't he getting a restraining order? Or better yet, why not question why there's a few thousand dollars worth of equipment missing after said neighbor came snooping? ;-)
