Why,why does this channel insist on using this J/A Allen to conduct these interviews?
These are important, but this J/A knows next to nothing about Vietnam or the service to know what to ask an when or when to just keep his mouth shut and let the guys tell their stories.
I'm either having a major case of deja vu or this channel had Toms exact interview at an earlier time.

I get what you are saying and sometimes i think he gets way too much into background ie pedigree and the like but i cut him a break because he is a volunteer, elderly and to your point about not knowing much about vietnam, in a way thats good. Im 66, fell into that post vietnam gap in the late 70s where we weren't even required to get a draft card so anything about the armed forces, all the slang, acronyms and such are acquired knowledge. Ive studied all kinds of military history and foreign policy over the years but really appreciate what may be stupid questions to a veteran like usual versus in vietnam platoon, company brigade and regiment size, rank versus practical hierarchies and so on. Last, im not 100% sure but it takes one to know one... I think this guy may be a retired attorney from the way he questions and how he gets sidetracked with followup questions and sometimes abruptly asks leading questions. Again not sure but if thats the case its hard to unlearn that. Of course i dont want to know why your parents got divorced or how many blacks there were in your little town growing up but again... I cut the guy a break and you have to admit some of these left field questions bring out some entertaining responses:"oh yeah we got a few gooks... Guess i shouldnt say that right? " (lol)

A hole remark. How does this man strike you as a bad man? Soldiers in vietnam were as much victims as those poor vietnamese. Havent you seen some of these men interviewed? Their lives were ruined. A lot of vietnamese families have found new and productive lives in the us and us taxpayers financed their relocation. Can we feel bad about vietnam? Yes and most do. And lets be frank. The vietnamese did to their own much worse than american soldiers. Write a letter to your congressman. Their feeding the war machine not the american people. Most feel were not heard.

@@stevefirst1512 Americans invaded Vietnam not the other way around. Just like Iraq, Afghanistan, Somalia, Russia etc.. Should we blame the Vietnamese for defending their country? Also, thou shalt not kill! God will judge and punish the sinner's that don't command.

This guy knows and tell it like it was back then … I was born May 1947 … got drafted out of college … spent Dec 1967-Dec 1968 in Vietnam with the 1st Cavalry 11B/11C … I missed Dak To … walked Bong Son and experienced TET … flew over Hue up to Quang Tri and cut the NVA going out the back door of Hue… helped rescue the marines at Khe Shan … went into A Shau Valley with 155 men and 35 days later we came out with 105 ragamuffins… back to Quang Tri … down to Quan Loi down south to the Parrots Beak Cambodia… yeah I’d like to buy this guy a couple of beers 🍺🍺… yeah I was an RTO for 6 months … you never forget the sound of an AK47 crack crack crack …
I still wake up during the night in the jungle … we didn’t bury many of the VC and NVA … piss on them … damn this guys memory is like mine.
