Stuff we use:
CAMERA - This is the camera we have used to film 90+% of our interviews (over 200 interviews and counting) It continues to be our workhorse - amzn.to/2u66V1J
LENS - Most people ask us what camera we use, no one ever asks about the lens which filmmakers always tell us is more important. This lens was a big investment for us and one we wish we could have made sooner. Started using this lens at the end of 2013 - amzn.to/2tbtmOq
AUDIO
Rode VideoMic Pro - The Rode mic helps us capture our backup audio. It also helps us sync up our audio in post amzn.to/2t1n2hx
Audio Recorder - If we had to do it all over again, this is probably the first item we would have bought - amzn.to/2tbFlM9
LIGHTS - Although we like to use as much natural light as we can, we often enhance the lighting with this small portable light. We have two of them and they have saved us a number of times - amzn.to/2u5UnHv
COMPUTER - Our favorite computer, we each have one and have used various models since 2010 - amzn.to/2t1M67Z

Like life, we directors are the captains of our ships. We chart our course, consider the conditions and map out our destinations but ultimately it is the winds and the tides that determine when, where and how we arrive.
beautiful
Exactly
I’m recoiling in my chair because he is saying everything I’ve thought and done wrong up to this point and I’m glad he’s bringing it up so forwardly so that you can have an open mind and think in a 360 degree view.
He says
1) Being too convinced he knows what he wants
2) Essentially not being flexible/amenable to change/evolution during the process
3) Not expecting Actors to change from Audition to casting to shoot...
The nightly reconsideration process sounds brilliant ... that's the gap between perceived reality and delivered reality... thanks for that !
Extremely important philosophy said here. Always no that you are the person saying yes or no. What is important, not to always to be right, but to command choices. And then alter, when you chose to go left, but actually right movement works better. Do left, and do right. Don't just do left and think left is how if works in you mind. The audience might respond emotionally better if the movement went right. But you'll be safe in the edit if you shot both "up" and "down" dailies.
this man is absolutely right.i have experienced this.good advice.
"plan but be open"
Excellent advise but there is the possibility of errors. Long story short: i did that but the actors weren't ready for something like this and i ended throwing away 25% of the shots.
That was heavy..
Thanks!
Sounds like good advice for producers as well.
so often producers and writers does not adhere to this philosophy.
Awesome!
thanks
So true, So true, So true, So true, So true, So true, So true, So true, So true, SO TRUE!
Amazing
Hitchcock would never let that happen;)
Fair bit of Sun Tzu in there.
