Michael wasn't cold. He was wise. Intelligent and careful like his father especially after he received the advice " Women and children can be careless men can not be "
Michael Corleone was someone who inherited his father's wise and intelligent nature. In books they clearly mention that even before he became a don people revognized that cold ruthless animalistic nature that makes them bow to him. My all time fav character❤
People talk about Robert De Niro, Joe pesci but for me Al Pacino is one hell of a fine actor i mean cuz of him i developed a taste in this dramatic genre of cinema! Pure class
The thing is he wasn't really cold. It was a hard exterior he forced on himself to compensate for his naturally good nature. Sure, his intelligence combined with this made him act ruthlessly but it wasn't him, it was something he forced himself to appear as
It's just the difference between father and son, like Turgenev, that's what is all about, Vito was doing it for his family, sometimes selflessly, he loved them, and they loved him back, with all respect, do not let them starve from the beginning, do not lie if you can, fair and square, that's the nature of his power... Michael on the other side, when did his family ever felt that way? Never. Always a lie. And he didn't really care about his wife, his children, or brother and sister, or memory of his parents, he didn't have any friends, just servants, people who followed orders, his power was built on fear. That's why Vito's ending is so different from Michael's.
@@ArtemiusArcturus i don't entirely buy that. Specifically because of the line in 2 when he worries about losing family. I think he tried to be strong in a world not suited to his personality which made him do things he felt immense guilt over which made him block out his family. The whole thing is to protect them
My favorite is still tom hagen, wish he was in gf3, sadly they didnt want to pay him what he deserved. And for their greed gf3 will always be missing tom hagen, you can feel his absence in it
This was a man who murdered for his family, who turned himself into a savage to protect Kay and his family so what happened in Sicily wouldn't happen to a woman he actually loved.... " Kay, I did what I could to protect you from horrors of this word " " Why was I so feared. What betrayed me was it my heart or my mind "... A man who got diabetes, aged over night stopped smoking drinking killing, never took the ring of his finger or touched another woman for the rest of his life after he lost Kay
Michael was same as Vito but the women changed they always bring chaos. Imagine if Kay was same as Vito s wife/ Michaels mom none of these problems would've happened
A writer who wants to please the audience would have probably never killed Michael's first wife. But a writer who has written Godfather knows what is important, the audience or the story.
Pacino gave one of the GOAT performances by an actor in a leading actor… Him in The Godfather 2 is pure excellency! Best performances ever by an actor in a leading role, to me.. you have Brando in On the Waterfront and also The Godfather ofc, Mickey Rourke in The Wrestler, Harry Dean in Paris Texas, Anthony Hopkins in The Remains of the Day, Jack Nicholson in One Flew Over the Cuckoo’s Nest, Paul Newman in The Verdict, Dustin Hoffman in Midnight Cowboy, Robert Duvall in Tender Mercies, Peter O’Toole in Lawrence of Arabia, Denzel in Malcolm X, so on… And you can definitely claim that Pacino is top3 on that WHOLE list!
Michael wasn't cold. He was wise. Intelligent and careful like his father especially after he received the advice " Women and children can be careless men can not be "
Intelligent and careful doesn't mean not cold. He killed his brother.

True, which is why he became so sick over all of that, especially in Godfather. 😢
