You did a really good job with presenting everything from start to finish. That obd2 dongle is slick.
Thanks for the detailed explanation and showing everything. Planning on doing this install on my 08 1500 and this helped tremendously.
Do you know what the app for the OBD tool is called for the iPhone ?
Well done Sir. In the middle of building a 04 quad cab 4x4 as I type. I am going to have to do this exact same install and set up. Thank you for your time and effort.
You guys don’t need the obd thing it’s just plug and play as long as you got the oem fog switch your good thanks for the info doe
Yes you have to have it if it wasn't activated from the factory. If you watch the whole video you will see I had OEM switch and harness and I still had to activate them. Some get lucky with plug and play and some don't. You're welcome brother and thanks for checking out my video.
Kudos brother! Just did your complete install today. Very helpful video! Thanks!
Thanks for taking the time to make this video. I’m helping my brother install lights for his truck and you helped us out big time.
This is tremendous help, thank you. I have the same headlights on my truck as you have on yours.
Great video brother, you answered what I was thinking, just baught a 2007 3500 crew cab cab and chassis duelly truck. My first dodge,
Bought my 07 chassis cab new off the lot with 14 miles on her now 260k still pulling 5 days a week.
Dude thank you so much for this. Excellent walk-through on how to do it. Very clear instructions and well videoed. I was able to get mine installed easy easy following this step by step on my 07 mega cab 2500.
This is the best fog light install video on UA-cam! Nearly all the other videos are of some hand made cheap harness wired directly to a RAM switch/cheap Autozone toggle switch or some expensive "special" flash. Glad I came across this one. Obviously Alpha OBD is the way to go. Why would you spend more $ on a program that only can program one thing? I wonder where the factory plugin is for a 4th gen Ram. Figure I'll buy the harness and let the length guide me. I hope there is a plug like the third gen but I suspect it might plug directly into the fuse box. Anyone know?
Thanks man.. The plug should be in the same place as the 3rd gen trucks.
Finally a video of someone doing this 🙏🏼🙏🏼 been looking for at least 2 years
Friggin awesome tutorial video! I have an ‘09 3500 mega cab that I want to add fog lights to👍
I installed fog lights and the switch and didn’t need to connect any scanner to activate my lights, they just worked. Definitely just try the lights and switch before dumping cash on a tool and app.
Great video sir I like the way you talk
Very nice, I added the fog lights to my 2004 and was told I didn’t need the flash. But, I’m going to look into this device if it works with my 04. Thanks
Working thanks appreciate video took me lol bit. Had to use my brother phone and retract my old email down but it worked.
I've had the bezels, lights, and harness installed for over 2 years and have avoided the dealer, just hoping that another solution would come up. I was stoked when I found your video only to discover that AlphaOBD is not compatible with my '07 1500 - bummer. Guess I'll be wiring in a switch. Great video though.
Did a great job looks good can't wait till I finish working on my build with my 2002 dodge ram 1500. Definitely cheaper
Yes sir and thanks brother! Hope your build turns out to what you want!
How did it work out I can't seem to get a definite opinion to get mine to work after I did everything except for enable the module but nothing supports our trucks
Those look good I like the obd2 alpha thing really like the headlights too
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 yeah I'm going to have to look into it thanks for the video and info
I’m planning to do the install on my 2003 1500, thank you for the explanation. I’m hoping to also have the connections on the truck since it’s not a fog light ready truck.
I don't think it works for our trucks the app doesn't have options for us
Sorry but the app won't work on a 03 as Itz Potater stated. 06 and up only.
I just plugged mine in with the lights, harness and new headlight switch and everything worked great no need for anything fancy so try that first
Great info sir .... I have a obdlink mx and not mx plus and i had no idea that i could even use these type of scan tools for this but thanks to you bro you saved me a $100 plus and a trip to the dealer i was able to download the app that you recommended and i have my fogs lights up and active on my 2012 Dodge Challenger thanks thanks thanks thanks man.... lolol great tutorial by the way...
Awesome video brother, love the explanation and commentary. I have an 04 1500 hemi and I notice what looked like fog like wiring under the bumper. Great to know I can actually put some it. Keep up the good work 🤙🏾
Thanks brother and thanks for watching. Some trucks you don't have to enable the foglight feature like I did at the end. Fingers crossed for ya!
The 02-05 rams are plug in play, 06 and up you have to programming done
I’m really wanting to add dogs to my tradesmen. This seems to be the solution
Make sure u have the plug in on driver side inside the bumper just above the foglight hole.
Question, that OBDII Link can you reconfigure the tipm? I put new bulbs in my headlights and the tipm shut them off after flashing for a bit.
I'm not sure on that. You can unhook your battery cables (on both batteries if you drive a diesel) and tie the negative and positive together and turn the ignition on and leave it over night to drain all the capacitors. If that doesn't work you can get dodge to reprogram it or you can pull the tipm out and send it to mak's tipm rebuilders and they can fix it and you can get them to go ahead while they have it and put a better fuel relay in so you don't have the common problem of that going out in the future.
What headlights are those? Great video by the way.
Thanks brother. Here's a link for the headlights.

That is one purdy looking truck you have there!. Do you belong to the Turbo Diesel Registry? I bought a neighbor's 2004 1500 SLT that didn't have fogs. I did locate both a fog light fuse & relay in the fuse & relay center under the hood, & they already have power. You answered a lot of questions I had, & gave a head's up on the need for the computer to be programmed. Thanks again.
Did you end up needing to program it? I’ve heard that the older 3rd gens don’t require the computer reprogramming.
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 I’ve got a 03 and getting the parts in the mail tomorrow. Hopefully I won’t have to program
I'd guess the cops would flag you down if they were installed reverse. cross-eyed. I am afraid I'll have to look elswhere for my 2004 Dodge Ram. the truck has such low milage(47,700) I am willing to bend over backwards for it with mods! but 2004 model the cargo light is not a separate button it is on the finger slide roller with the interior lighting. :(
I have n 08 1500 what lights do you have on your truck, can u comment the link. I want those on mines. The video was great by the way. The break down of everything was helpful thank you.
Hey brother links to everything I used is in the description.
In the beginning you mentioned you purchased the wiring kit. Where does it plug up to exactly? Did your truck already come pre wired? Also, since you got the switch with the fog light control, when you replaced it with your original one, did you have to add any wires or did it use the original plug?
Yes most trucks come pre-wired because they don't want to make different harnesses for every different trim package they make. The wiring kit i bought has 3 plugs and 2 of them will plug into the foglights and the 3rd plug will plug into the factory foglight plug mounted on the driver inside bumper. Original plug will plug straight up to the headlight switch with foglight function without extra wires.
Michael if you ever changed the headlight or turn signal bulbs you will notice another wire on the driver's side which is for the fog lights.
So do you need to go thru the procces with the obd2 port or if you just wore everything can you have fog lights without worrying about the indicator on dash
If you wire it all up and the indicator shows up in the instrument cluster then your foglights will work. In it doesn't show up then your foglights won't work. So no indicator no lights. Now you might be one of the lucky ones and your foglight function was turned on when it was being programed during assembly.
Nice truck man!
I'm going to try that for my 2008 1500. I wonder if that will program key fobs to open the doors and also play with the tire pressure monitoring system?
Thanks brother! Not sure about the key fob but it should have a option for the tire monitoring system
I wish this app worked on Apple iOS! Need to check to see if this is why mine aren’t working. Never have ever since I bought it from previous owner.
Check to see if you have power going to the plug at the foglights and work your way back. Could be bad switch or tipm. Or like you're thinking........may not be activated. You never know what a previous owner has done.
great video, did you have to use a different wire harness when you installed the fog light switch, i'm trying to do. the same thing
Yes go look in the description and you will see a link for everything I used for this install. Thanks for watching!
Would you happen to have a link or the part number for the bezels? The ones I'm looking at on Amazon have horrible reviews about not fitting
Hello, this is a good video. I have a question. I have a 2003 Ram ST model. I can't seem to locate the harness connector. I thought i did but that was a cruise control servo 4 pin connector. That is another upgrade mod I plan to work on. Do you know if the ST model came with that connector? Or how it should be installed?
The connector should be mounted on the inside bumper on the driver side. It will be made in with the wiring harness. It should lead straight to the totally integrated power module
I have an 07 ram 2500 did everything on the video but the obd2 reader app looks way different than the video. Its a obdlinkmx+ but cannot fide the option to access the body computer. Any suggestions would be appreciated

You gave me a good suggestion going factory direct on the light switch inside. You said that some trucks come pre wired for the fogl light system , I started looking intoit ,i only found one connector that on driver side by the fuse box is that it? one connector for both side?
The connector will be mounted inside the driver side bumper just above and to the left of the foglight hole. That one plug will provide power for both lights. I have a link to everything you will need in the description to make it all work.
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 yes I saw some of them. I need tha app name from there going to follow your video step by step how you did it. THANK YOU SO MUCH.
You're welcome. I just learned that the obd2 and app only works with Android devices. Dosen't work with iPhone. I would have mentioned that in the video if I would have known that. Another viewer had to share that info with me.
Does that obdlink hook up to a 2005 dodge ram 1500 ? Trying to do the same thing what you did
Would you be able to just wire in the fog lights and change your switch and they work? Or do you have to have that OBD plug to change the computer
Some people get lucky and the fog lights work and some like myself have to activate them
Hey i have an 04 1500 and i downloaded that app and everything but in the settings it doesnt have an 04 option. Do you know another way i can activate my lights?
You're right I went to the app and nothing below 2006. Sorry about that. I didn't realize that! Download the app that came with the obdmx and see if it has any options. That app should go as low as 1997. You could run a toggle switch or let the dealer activate them. I changed the thumb nail on the video and hopefully people with 05 and older can find a different solution! Again sorry brother!
Did your fog light flushed all the way to the plastic? Cause mine has alot of gap between the foglight and the plastic cover
No and you don't want it touching the plastic. About ¹/⁴ in gap on top and about ¹/² gap on bottom.

Nice video, I have questions before I order myself a fog lights, do these fog light is plug and play ? Since my light switch don’t have the pull thing like the one that come from factory. Do I have to do custom light switch where I have to drill a hole on panel dashboard where the light switch is at to install a light button specifically only for fog lights ?
You can add a factory switch like I did or a aftermarket switch. They are plug and play as long as you add a switch and the wiring to connect them.
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 I own 2 rams , one is 2004 with fog lights that I can turn them on by rotating the switch to low beam and pull outward. And other is 06, without fog lights with no switch light pull outward mechanism. I bought the fog lights, harness, bezel and planning to install them this weekend. Hoping the headlight can turn on low beam on and both low and high beam on without having log light on when I don’t need them on without modifying the original switch light

Any idea if that OBD Module can enable the high idle on a Cummins (I think it’s PTO) ?
You should be able to under "PTO and idle up". I've not tried it because my tuner allows me to enable that feature.
Hey Bud, exactly what software do you use for this? I’ve read a bit on AlphaOBD but not sure if that’s what I need. Wanting to do your fog light mod as well as engage my high idle/pto option. Does it work with apple or just windows/android? Any links would be AWSOME…thanks again man!

Hey Isolated I have the 2009 Dodge Ram 2500 which was the last year for that particular generation of ram trucks. Yea I put some aftermarket tail lights in. I made a video of it. They are spyder brand.
i have a 2009 ram 1500 that has no fog lights and im putting some on. where do i connect the foglight harness to the connector inside the cabin? im looking for a harness but the fog light harness is the only one that shows up
@@isolateddieselperformance3261I don’t have it. Might have to solder it to the headlight wires or something
Don't do that. That can cause serious problems. Your connection might be in a different place because you have a 4th gen truck. Worse case you can run it with a toggle switch if that's a route you're willing to take. Wiring it to your headlights can cause problems with your integrated power module.
@@isolateddieselperformance3261 oh i did not know that. I think ive seen people do that before but with light bars so i was thinking of doing that,.

See if they will come on. If not then yes you will need the obd2 or you can take it to the dealer and they can turn them on.
Can you install the led fog and use it without getting the foglight switch? Would it turn on with just the stock?
If your switch has the foglight function you won't have to change it but if it doesn't than you will need a new switch.
Hi, great video..your a wizard finding out how to do that programming. So I'm in the same boat. I have a non-fog light 2007 jeep grand cherokee laredo. I noticed it has the wiring( lumes) plugs up underneath the fender for fog lights. I purchased new OEM type fog lights, and the new switch, and relay. It all went together and installed easily. But lights don't work. I researched this and it appears that the computer needs (woken up) programming to let it know it has fog lights? You have any thoughts...is there a OBDII that will work for me? Thank you
Yes the same obd2 I have and the alpha app that cost $50 for lifetime access on your Google account will work for 2005 and newer jeeps. Links are in the description but the app dosen't work with iPhone. Android devices only phone tablet whatever you have.

@@isolateddieselperformance3261 so I can install the fog lights and the new controll thing next to the steering wheel and not have to go through the setup process on the phone to enable them?
You might have to or you might not. Some trucks come from factory already enabled and some don't.
So, I went through the entire process and it said the procedure was completed but unknown. I’m wondering if I did something wrong?
Make sure you are doing the configuration and not just a test. Also let the truck set 5 min after you program it to make sure it took. Go make and sandwich and then come back to see if you have working lights.
I was reading the website because it still didn’t work and it says that your supposed to have an activation code for it. Did you have to use an activation code after buying the app?

Hey man I did everything correctly, the fog light indicator turns on but my fog lights dont turn on, i think it might be the factory fog light plug you mentioned, is there anywhere i can buy it? Or maybe its some other reason they're not turning on
Where the factory plug and the new harnesses you installed is a bear to plug in all the way. You really got to push hard so make sure it's plugged in all the way. Clean your factory plug also. If still doesn't work take a test light and make sure you're getting power to where it plugs in. Again you really got to press hard to plug in all the way. Hope this helps!
I just installed my fog lights and switch. Download the app but it doesn't look like the one your using. I hooked up the module and finally got the Bluetooth to work, but there are no settings like you show, when I download the app it didn't say anything about buying any extras it downloaded. There are no selections for the 2007 Dodge Ram 2500 that even matches what you show, if I can't get it to work and I'm willing to pay for the extra features but I can't find it. Guess I'll call them and see what's up but if I can't use this do do what I need I'll just go to the dealer and pay them, less aggravation for me.
Did you download this app?

Thanks I wish they would put that in their directions, I put the foglights and wiring harness and changed out the switch in about 40min. then for over an hour I fulled around trying to find the settings. Once I download this app and pay for it do I just use it once I connect the module or do I need to go through the OBDMX+ app. Thanks for answering this question I appreciate it sir. Thanks again.
You don't need the app that came with the obdmx+. Till this day I've not downloaded the app that came with the obdmx+. You just need the alfa app that you pay for. Yea it cost a few bucks but you will have it for life on any android device you will ever on and you can make changes to stuff. If you decide to add led lights power seats etc or anything you can activate them. You can do injector kill test and more.

Did you follow the steps at the end of the video to activate them?

Oh ok. You have a problem somewhere in the wiring would be my guess. Make sure you got the Jumper harness that connects the foglights fully plugged in to the connector on the driver side inside bumper. You really got to push it in good. For some reason it's always a really tight fit at that plug in. It took a lot of force to plug mine in.

Man. The light on the dash lights up but fog lights don’t work. Anyone have this happen?
Make sure you have everything plugged in all the way. Where the new harness and the factory harness plug in at is tough to plug in all the way. Will take some force sometimes. Other than that you may need to start testing for power at each plug in and trace from there
Could this OBD link fix my Headlight situation?
Only one headlight works. No low beams, high beams works but just the right side. Changed the bulbs, and changed wiring with no pigtails but still nothing.
Sounds like you have a problem with the dimmer switch. If you have replaced that already then you need to take a look at the totally integrated power module or the instrument cluster.
Wtf!! Anyone know why the fog lights are now triggering my backup camera on my aftermarket stereo??? I swear nothings easy on this truck
How long have you had the foglights in before it started doing this?
120$ for the obd link and 50$ for the app. Dealer woulda been quicker and cheaper. My mistake
Dealer wanted $160 and I only paid $99 for the obd and $50 for the app. In the future I won't have to see the dealership if I decide to do more add ons. If you ever have a short you can disable the function till you figure out the problem or do injector test among so many other things. I don't consider it a mistake but if you don't work on your own vehicles than yes it may be a waste of money.
One problem my headlight switch harness will not fit the switch you are using. The adapter is different on my 06. Its rectangular in shape not square. And definitely has more than 4 pins.
That doesn't make sense. I would call the dealership and give them your vin number and find out what's different about your truck. 03 to 09 diesel models and 02 to 08 gas models should all be the same
