No guitarists or harpists or string instruments professional developed arthritis. Arthritis only developed through long hours continuous immersion in water especially when u do a lot of washing chores with bare hands.
You can sense the sadness in this music. He was defeated and he refused to cross the river to safety because he felt ashamed, so he decided to fight to the end which is also his death. This music describes how he felt when was by the river, said farewell to his wife and his war horse, right before he head to his death. Hope this background will help you enjoy this music more.

刘德海大师曾经说过，我是因为喜欢琵琶爱琵琶才弹琵琶，年轻时也有激情，想出名想要辉煌，但我名气和辉煌都有了，我才发现，这些对我都不重要，我已经不在乎了，我只在乎我喜欢的琵琶和曲子。境界上真的是反普归真了
70年代刘老师的演奏，是正值艺术的巅峰，散漫着朝气蓬勃的气息！而近时刘院长的演奏，是一种四平八稳，精彩已经不用惊艳来彰显，而是返璞归真，回归到曲目的原本面目，这是几十年的艺术沉淀，来才能演奏出中国古典名曲与历史背景相融合的艺术诠释，听着很享受。
