"Taking pictures is not allowed unless you have permission from the City of Rochester."? 2 things.
1. ITS A PUBLIC GARAGE.
2. PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT A CRIME
3. Would you say not to take pictures of a public sidewalk?
epic fail
I find it particularly ironic that this occurred in Rochester, given that's where Kodak is based.
Oh please!!!! America is a free country, freedom of expression. Photography or video is freedom of expression.
The guard was nice about it, but the city is violating the First Amendment.
That's not a violation of the first amendment. That amendment only protects you from the government for opinions or relgious beliefs. A security guard asking not to take pictures is not a violation of any law unless the city itself says taking pictures is fine.
Hey Andrew I flim beeline bus and they said the bus driver photography is not a crime in Westchester
Just like in that old Campbell County Courthouse in Roanoke.
At least he was friendly. Normally I start my videos inside if there’s security outside.
The security handled the situation very well!
@elevatortimes Same here, or i aim the camera at my feet, so people don't know i am recording! WORKS EVERY TIME!!!
Great vids man!
At least the man didn't yell at you or kick you out or anything.
yeah but a first amendment violation.
Why. Like what if I want to take a selfie or take a picture of my own car or something
What is the name of the garage
Omg I am so sorry about that i actually got busted at Chesterfield Mall once for the same reason.
It was had
And now you know why I'm a former resident of Rochester.
You got busted so fast!
I got kicked out of an employee parking garage not too long ago as rude security stepped away from the desk to question me.
Stuff like this makes me sick. It is CLEARLY in the first amendment that we are allowed to film on city/state/country owned property. Your tax money paid for that garage and they tell you not to film?! That is absolute donkey shit.
@22408aaron This literally happened to me about a year and a half ago. I was filming an elevator and a security guard said "excuse me, there's no filming in the garage. You can't film in the garage. I didn't say anything, but I stopped recording as he had asked to do. I then recorded and filmed the elevator but started the video in the elevator and ended it in the elevator!! Technically I didn't pay to go there but all this is absolute donkey shit as you said!!
Elevating New York by Genesee Elevators I was almost busted once at a college with ecodisces
The first amendment is only to protect you from the government for your opinions or religious beliefs. It has nothing to do with filming. Different city governments have their own rules for this stuff.
@PinePowerLI : It's just because all the floors are locked off as the gates are locked as well (as I sneaked inside the building as a tenant exits out), once I got inside the elevator, every floor is locked off, when I press "Door open" the security stopped me from photography. Man, those security took this situation way too seriously. I was not issued trespass warnings, as security kicked me out in the dirt for filming.
@redneckelevatorman Well heres the thing, several buildings have building layouts floor plans and blueprints online where they can be downloaded, you dont need a video on youtube for that.
I LIVE IN THIS CITY!!!!!
I do not think this should be happening.
--Tracy
What does that mean?
And I live only an hour from the jerks of the city. Photography on public property is not illegal, and there is no expectation of privacy. You should have kept filming, regardless of what the man said.
@Vanool35 Am i a good elevator filmer
that patch looks like he works for none other than... ALLIED-BARTON SECURITY SERVICES
No did he say nope when asked about the city of Rochester
This was so illegal
Police in Corning , NY said to me, that a person does have the right to video people who may be on private property if it can be seen from public property.
That nigga man ain't got nothin on innocent photographers like you, musicfreakcc, alpljl, and all the other fellas out there who film them elevators. KEEP UP THE GOOD WORK GUYS! STARTIN' MONDAY, I'M JOININ' YA'LL!!!
it isn't a crime at all. Filming an elevator doesn't do anything to anyone, it's just a video of the elevator.
Remember, photography is not a crime.
Photography is not a crime
SO TRUE! and this was a PUBLIC place. not privately owned.
@dariusloveselevators yes it is
A lot of lift/elevator filmers will start with "This is the elevator at --------- in ---------". Security may want to stop you from telling everyone where the building is.
I can understand if he was in a private place. But oh well. Certain buildings I hide my camera so I won't be caught by either management or security. This make me want to get an iPod and film with that.
Phone the city, confirm the security agents claims.
always keep the camera rolling when confronting security and or police, make it look like your turning the cam off, keep lens pointed at the ground and cover any little red or green lights. why? in case they overstep their authority you want footage for legal reasons.
It's almost like Simon Malls not wanting people to know about their state of elevators, others don't want theirs filmed. I do believe it's OK on Public property but I think private properties can ban it if they want to, and I know shopping centers are well within their right to do that.
PHOTOGRAPHY IS NOT A CRIME! Even for me I never get busted
One can simply request this from the city of Rochester.
But, one can use any of a dozen cameras that are easily hidden.
Anyone remember the tie clip microphone?
There are now quality cameras with microphones that size.
Fully functional watch cameras.
But with the new devices, phones and tablets that have 2 cameras, there is no excuse, one could walk around and draw no attention whatsoever.
get the permission next time, then you can take pictures, otherwise make sure no one is watching
@crapper1 i happen to know alot of "rent a cops" as you call em and they are a great help to "real" cops like myself so id watch your comments
This is ridiculous. You have every right to film in this garage. I filmed here not that long ago and I didn’t have any trouble. I’m sorry this happened to you.
THIS IS NORTH KOREA
The Hawkins EAS/ SPC Kingsport 6460 No. This is in Rochester NY.
I'm sure that guy was just joking around.
Elevating Western PA Probably yeah!
@crapper1 yeah, the recording of the operation of elevators especially in garages shouldn't be a problem, but someone nailed it right on the head when they said these establishments are so paranoid of terrorist activities that they tighten their reigns on even the simplest of things
Why no pictures allowed
@JohnBradfordMmmartyr well ever see his video about "Bernard"? THAT GUY was a monster!
Everyone got their rights to photograph or film. It's not a crime
thats awful that they did that just what to expect from a rent-a-cop nothing but BS
Too bad if the guard wasnt there you wouldn't have gotten "caught". Thats why I point the camera down when the elevator door opens...just in case.
Pretty ridiculous rule though, but at least the guard was nice.
@LNERMallard HE wasn't polite, he did have a uniform though.
Hey! i live in rochester!
@shadywood79 in the elevator community the "hired security" from malls parking decks and other places has a bad reputation for ruining videos by making up rules that photography is illegal or isnt allowed i wasnt trying to be bad to all of them i was just saying another rentacop made up another rule out of thin air and dieselducy did find a few that are good so its not all of them i am bashing just some who are on a powertrip
@PinePowerLI : Don't feel bad about what I posted as this comment. I got kicked out from an office building by security (for filming) and got questioned. Guards demand me to erase the video I have taken so I did it. They put me on "Banned from going in office building" list as they asked me for ID. Then I got told not to come back again as I said I had to leave before I go any further with security. What a bad experience I have had.
You should've taken it to court so they could appeal on reversal on the ban, then compromise
@redneckelevatorman That's the gist of the argument for all aspects of American life. Are we willing to give up various freedoms in order to keep the bad eggs out? I'm not. I would say that public photography/video has done more good than bad. If I'm not mistaken, building layouts are a matter of public record. The only thing that preventing public photography does is encourage those individuals to 'buy' those records from the local government.
@TheMegaMonty I agree
why don't you film the elvator after he's gone
Photography can’t be a crime, but there are no rules restricting on photography in a public area like a sidewalk or an garage, unless the parking garage is connected to a private property, owned privately or there are signs stating that you can’t film there. So if I can’t film in a parking garage, why not film it on a sidewalk, it’s an open place and a public property, some police officers or I should say “rent a cop”, are trying to stop photographers from taking pictures in a public sidewalk unless you have permission to do this. If this ACTUALLY HAPPENED, then people will basically file lawsuits against the city.
One more note, PHOTOGRAPHY CAN’T BE A CRIME.
This guy was wrong and if I had known my rights back then I would have asserted them.
Nice video of the day.❤🎉. 0:17 .
Yes it was!
thats not good for taking pictures in thw elevator
@elevatorgeek762 That office building sounded unreal. The guards have no right to ask you to erase the video, I would've refused to do that and just told them to let me leave the building. I also would not give them ID, as security guards dont have any right to ask for ID. It sounds like issued a notice of tresspass, by putting you on a banned list. Who leases in that bldg to require so much security?
even before and after 911, such laws were there for a reason. You may not agree with them, but the last thing anyone wants is stalkers, crook, terrorists, et al.
Photography Is NOT a crime
Every city, or owner and manager has their own rules about photography. There's no worldwide rule that says elevator photography is allowed, it'd be nice if there was one, but there isn't. Many governments, or building owners have their own rules about photography for varying reasons.
I like pictures
Other allowed
This just happened to ***** and me today. We were filming a freshly modded elevator in a parking garage, and right after we finished, a security guard came up to us and said that it's "illegal" to take pictures there without a press pass.
I sure as HECK hope you guys corrected him...
***** I wish we could have, but the guard made it clear that she was enforcing a city ordinance and that we could even technically be arrested for it! I'd rather file a complaint (which I will do) when I'm not being threatened with possible arrest.
+HiFiAndElevators22 that's bullcrap.
why would a security guard be in a parking garage
Mostly to prevent theft.
google it,
Epic fail!
you are allowed to film and take pictures as long as your on public property like a city street, parks, and such. you have the right to film the police or security officer as long as you are on public property. KNOW YOUR RIGHTS.
Why the cant you take pictures on public property. That"s bulls**t
lol
When you try to film an elevator an employee or security officer have the right to say yes and they have the right to say no
Dumbass, you don't have to listen to the guard in this case as it is PUBLIC property, not PRIVATE property.
I remember watching this video when I was much younger and now that I am seeing it as an adult with a better understanding of the constitution and our rights, this is disgusting how he said you can't take pictures of public taxpayer funded properties in Rochester which is a direct violation of the first amendment. It's bad enough when people aren't educated, but even worse when cities ignore the constitution such as it seems to be for the city of Rochester. These cities are usually worse places to be when they do this.
Yeah I wish I knew then what I know now .
@@DieselDucy Sometimes you learn as you go. Learning experiences happen for a reason. You learn something new everyday.
welcome to post 9/11 America.
@elevatorgeek762 Oh I see. Yeah I wouldn't try to enter a building with gates or turnstyles. It pretty much means Paranoia level code red, as security will view anyone whose not a tenant as a terrorist. Next time carry some Depends and give it to the security guard....lol
@samten10a So do I its all bull shit. PinepowerLi and crapper1 both have videos about being harassed in the malls for taking pictures. They even called backup. They take it way too far, meanwhile someone could be shoplifting or breaking into a car. PinepowerLi has another video where he was taking pictures on the top of a garage and a guard came up and was telling him he cant do that, meanwhile a car alarm was going off, but his concern was dont take pictures..
ummmm you are not doing photography.... photography is the act of taking a photograph on a medium such as film or a ccd (a digital sensor which is inside of a digital camera) you are doing VIDEOGRAPHY which is making a video..... -.-
The same principals apply to videography too
@I STAN Kim Jong-Un but Can't STAND Trump Have you used Google???
Wow...photography is not even a crime. Like you have every right to film under the first amendment unless restrictions apply
bullshit.
Police state of America.
You should have fought back. Their not letting you practice your first amendment rights. Your in public you can film whatever you want.
I've never actually been busted since in New Zealand our laws are different but I did once film in a mall with no photography signs and didn't get seen at all. To be fair I think that it is okay to have a no photography rule/policy. it's not the rule, it's how offenders/photographers are treated.
u should, put the cam down
🐴💩
RECORDING ELEVATORS IS ALSO AGAINST THE LAW AS WELL.
NO!!
Mike Carter / WHITE IRISH AND PUERTO RICAN you must be from another planet
There's no official law that says don't film elevators. Different owners, managers, cities, or counties have their own rules about photography for varying reasons. More often than not, they're fine with it.
No it’s not
Not unlawful at all
