Fascinating interview. I've never seen Yule speak before, or even read any interviews. His contribution to the VU has been unfairly under rated Seems like a nice, modest guy.
Foggy Notion has to be the best groove they ever conjured up. It’s hard to explain but i’ve never heard anything quite like it since. The lyrics are unfortunate.
Cool interview. One thing I don't understand. The interviewer hasn't asked about "Squeeze" once! I mean, was it out of politeness? Or does Doug not want to talk about (which I doubt)..?
He briefly mentions it in an earlier clip from this interview. He has acknowledged that he doesn't own a copy and hasn't listened to it in years. It seems to be a part of Velvets history that band members and historians don't even feel should be credited as part of its story so much as an epilogue.

Well, he's wrong. Just their involvement with the Factory made them more than 'just a band'. Lou's dark lyricism made them more than just a band. Having a wildly experimental classical/conceptual musician on bass and keyboards made them more than just a band. Having a beautiful blond model and film actress singing songs in a heavy non American accent made them more than just a band. A female drummer with just two drums etc etc. Is Doug Yule even vaguely aware of the VU's history? He seems unaware of their existence before he joined them. If there's one thing the VU never were it's "just a band".

Doug is awesome, he's kind of a typical New Yorker in some ways but a gentle soul as well.... I would love to jam with doug
These videos are amazing; Doug is such a cool person with tremendous insight! I would love to meet him.
Thank you so much for this. I'm not sure how I missed it for 9 years. Doug seems like a lovely guy as well as being smart and a great musician.
Well done!
Doug Yule was just as important than John Cale.
That is probably one of the most ludicrous statements I've ever read about the Velvet Underground.
Congratulations.
Maybe....
He's certainly on more of their recordings and was in the band longer!
:-)

He’s downplaying the overblown. I agree, I have ears and can hear too. I’ll take the Doug on bass era based on the music alone.
I'm shocked, this is your first comment that it's hard to argue with
