Jesus what a nostalgia rush. I first watched this with my mom when I was a kid. She loved this movie so much. She passed away in 2020. Little things like this still remind me.

Silver Streak is like an old friend that you see only occasionally - a friend that makes you smile, feel good, appreciate memories (both good and bad) - and makes you wonder why you don't see them more often. This scene is almost bland in so many ways, yet it's one of the first ones I think of when Silver Streak pops into my mind. Then all the other good scenes and line come flooding forward. Ray Walston, Rita Babtree and the airplane, the shoeshine guy, Clifton James as the sheriff - supporting roles were outstanding here!
I saw it in the days when one could hire a projector and the film and see it at home. See the final crunch as the train hits the terminus - then play the film in reverse for extra laughs.
OMG this takes me back. My mother worked as a cashier at the RKO National Movie Theater and I loved this movie. I loved that theater, unfortunately it closed now but it was kool!!!!
Thank you for posting this beautiful scene. I still think I am only 11 when I see it. I was so moved that others love this scene as much as I do. Then there is the music.
Right on! I found a way to record the soundtrack off of the video back in the 80s...been listening to this for a long time. Great scene, too bad the soundtrack wasn't produced in greater numbers.
Glad to see so many others appreciating this true American classic. Gene Wilder was our finest comic actor, and this is one of his very best performances. This movie was my childhood.
I don't know if you live in the United States. But if you go up Interstate 91. To Interstate 89 and get off exit 2. Which will take you to Grand Island Vermont. And in certain parts of Grand Isle to New York will look like this scene. Then once you get into New York turn right on 87 then on to Montreal.
Filmed in Alberta, Canada...I know these roads well...and they do make you feel good when driving on them...a lot of time to think when driving in Western Canada.
The funny thing is the beginning when they leave ‘LA’ is actually Toronto, when they’re in Kansas City at the station in the famous bathroom scene it’s Toronto, and when the train arrives in ‘Chicago’ it’s Toronto union station. So going by the backgrounds they basically went from Toronto to Calgary and back lol 😂

Soooooo agree. I love this film, and that scene has never left me from the day I first saw it in the theater in the 70s. Whenever I drive a stretch of road, I think of this scene. It's magical.
Man this movie came out in 1976 and all the things that came and went in my mind and I always for some reason remembered this scene. I saw this in the movie theatre with my parents and can remember afterword going to school and seeing it on a billboard for a drive in theatre after. I never noticed before but he drives past them twice. Also, in the opening, shouldn't he be headed towards the sunrise? Either way I always loved this scene.

With the recent passing of ned Beatty I believe everyone is gone from this film one of my favorite it does not jump out at you but Pryor and wilder is magic together thanks for the memories rip🙏❤⛪😔all of you
while this is a good movie it is this scene that to me stood out the most. Something about the sound while driving though the country while the sun rose, it was gorgeous. it reminded me of the black stallion when the kid finally get to ride that horse on the beach, the music, the waves it also had the total ambiance that great scenes have.
I love the quiet... Just thinking and driving. Gene Wilder may Jehovah bless you for your talent. Richard you were one of a kind. Both geniuses. Both: RIP
The ethereal score of "Silver Streak" was my 2nd introduction into the wondrous music of Maestro Henry Mancini (after the Peter Gunn and Mr. Lucky scores). "Hilly's Theme" exudes warmth, tenderness and introspection as few other musical pieces can. It marks the point when I began to actively search out any and everything crafted by Mancini.
