I picked up a 22" shaw 6arc barrel when they first came out, thing shoots lights out. Just been shooting factory ammo to make brass but the hdy 108 load is 3/8 and the hdy 105 is around 1/4 moa 5 shot groups at 100 yards. Even did a 10 shot group with 5 of each and group was still way under 1/2 moa. Some really good machining from shaw lately and never had one not shoot good. I'm waiting on a 9.3x62 mauser barrel from them and my buddy is one a 6arc barrel I think for a savage from them to.
My Nephew got the 22" Shaw 6arc, and his is doing about 3/4" with the factory ammo --- but I can't recall the scope he's using, and it's also with just a bipod - not a front and back rest. I'm waiting on new primers to come in before I try this load in my 18" Shaw barrel, but I'm looking forward to it! Shaw has basically turned into my "go to" for a lot of things.
Ya they have been making pretty good barrels, they were fine in the past but definitely are better the last few years.i kinda wish they would do a lighter 16-18 6arc barrel id like to biuld one lighter for hunting or just a do all barrel. Maybe just try out a 18 when they have a sale. I do like the contureon my 22" they call it a hbar but real hbar would be heaier. Mine is on aero M4E1 upper/lower and shooting from bipod. 4-14 sightron scope and im not getting as steady as id like may try some pron shooting.@@upnorthreloading2214
Does your wilson combat have pretty consistent accuracy? I’m debating on a Wilson combat, Shaw or satern barrel. Lucky for me you have 2 of the 3 I’m debating over. I’m looking for an accurate 6 arc 18 in barrel.
I have some questions, just to make sure that we're on the same page: Or do you mean, does the accuracy/precision hold up after a string of 10-20 shots? (How much the barrel heat affects the precison.) Or do you mean if I have an established trusted load, does the consistency of my group size and POI remain the same? Because the Wilson Combat definitely has a smaller/lighter contour, with fluting, so I can understand that, mechanically, it'll be more affected by heat. I haven't tested this to any great degree, yet, though. I also have a bull-barrel in 6mm ARC, but it needs to be recrowned. I was hoping on doing some barrel heat tests with them, when I get that done.
@@upnorthreloading2214 I’m just talking across different bullets and powders if you have done any testing like that. I’ve got some barrels that are really picky about what I feed it and some that will shoot pretty well across a spectrum of different bullets and powder loads within reason obviously.
@@edouble9894 Oof, this is an extra tough one to answer. Well, as always, your mileage may vary! I also had a Proof Research barrel, which was precise, but my Shaw barrel consistently outshot it. That was actually my latest video: ua-cam.com/video/MzlOLEFdKkM/v-deo.html (Actually! I *sold* that Proof Research barrel to a friend, whom recommended that I try a Wilson Combat barrel! It's 80% of the reason why I even bought it.) I have two other videos, which were 3-shot strings while doing quick load development for hunting season. My best groups were in the 0.3-0.5" range as well: ua-cam.com/video/RSVS-M9As2s/v-deo.html ua-cam.com/video/wor9JxS_upA/v-deo.html However, in my introduction video for this barrel, I did the Nosler CC bullets and Staball 6.5 (because that is what I had used in my Shaw and McGowen Precision), and I think the Wilson barely edged out the other two as well. It at least did on-par with the Shaw. I don't necessarily want to steer you one way or another with your purchase, but I'll say that if you took away all but one of my barrels, and gave me a choice of which one I'd keep, I'd keep the Wilson Combat. HOWEVER, if you made me purchase another AR rifle barrel... I'd buy a Shaw. Mostly because it has a rifle-length gas system, and I have plenty of spare components for those lying around.
Awesome I’m really just looking for a little insight on them both. From what I hear is a choice either way. So I appreciate the in-site and appreciate the videos. I’m leaning toward the Wilson at this point. Plus Wilson’s combat customer service from my experience is incredible. I have a hard time getting a reply from Shaw.
I want to say that the max load (24.5gr) I used was fairly low, around 2450-2500. I say that with only mild certainty, though, because I tested a lot of powders that were guesstimated ended up riding up to 2500. Good on me for being able to keep it consistent, but I know I'm not pushing the upper limits of the cartridge. I still have some powder left, though I'm not sure how many Nosler CCs. Now that I have a bolt gun, maybe I'll see if I have the components to compare?
I love the Noser CC in my arc! They shoot just like this all day!

Did you ever get some chrono numbers on the benchmark loads?
