Marlow, I believe you can do this without the computer. Just have your MPC outs 3/4 going into the 404 and then have the 404 out go into the MPC. On the MPC, enable monitoring and that should be it.
You can send specific pads/programs to the 3/4 out, which is routed to the 404 and then back into the MPC, where you can hear output and resample. I do this and it works. No computer needed.

I just contacted Akai via inquiry and, left a comment on their 2.10 youtube video and, hopefully it will gather steam if the rest of us do the same.
(In a future update it would be nice if they upped the sample rate choices to at least include 48khz so we can use our SP-404MK2s as audio interfaces with our MPCs. This would augment the combined workflows of the two beast machines).

The way sample rates work, 44.1khz vs 48khz for example, the rate that the samples can be recorded are measured in 'kHz' so think 'sample cycles per second'
so the MPC can only take a max of 44,100 cycles of samples per second, while the 404MK2 can dish out a total of 48,000 cycles of samples per second.
Everytime you record/sample something your sampler is taking a digital audio snapshot at a frequency of either of these sample rates.
so basically the MPC can't cature sampled snapshots at that fast of a rate so they are incompatible.
    a sidenote:
I think Roland left the 404MK2 at 48khz because it can real-time timestretch pretty cleanly without extra audio artifacts. you need the higher sample rate to support a cleaner smoother time stretch.
I hope this helped someone lol

hi, can i ask you a question. are undecided whether to buy SP or the MPC. I'm not very interested in using it live and in common I would still interface with Ableton to finalize my works. I really like Lo Fi music but I'm afraid that SP is too much into Lo Fi music and can't get out of this genre. while for the MPC I'm afraid it's less immediate, more awkward to move (but it's not very serious) and that it's like having a computer and that it has many functions but superfluous if you intend to interface with Ableton. what do you recommend me?

A lot quicker to just edit your sample whatever way you want in the 404 and just shoot it manually into whatever other sampler you're using. In this case, the mpc is monster sequencer so if anyone is using these two together, I'd advise them to use the mpc as the main sequencer unless you use the 404 as a stand alone.

It makes a difference only using the USB connections via the computer.
If you are connecting these up with audio cables and not USB, it does not make a difference and you can do it as audio cables don’t care about sample rates, but with computer (usb) connections they have to match in order for them to play nice together.
At least that is my understanding.

Really? I was thinking about using the 404 as a effect machine directly from my MPC. I can't work that way :( Pretty sad,but you saved me 500€

I was trying to use the 404 as an audio interface for the Live in Standalone but the 404 ia 48Khz and the Live is 44.1Khz so that doesn't work.
