What a master you are. It’s so interesting to see the way that you think and the way you execute your repairs and improvements. Thanks for bringing us along.
Good to see that old girl back working with the original parts. Good job tracking down a solution and getting that thing loaded. Thanks for the video Buddy, 73's Dale
Thank you for this video. I successfully built and used the 4040 programmer for a dead 271 and R71 ram module using a 486/100MHz Dos machine but I could not program the 751. I then tried the 74LS373/74LS241 programmer with the same machine but that did not work. I don't like the way the parallel data bus is share for read and write, the 4040 programmer has in my opinion better hardware. I then followed the EEVblog post and built the module carrier board with the new icom_ram.zip file and managed to get the 751 going. Good work and 73.
Dang a few months too late , one of the clubs , St. Paul Radio Club , I belong to gets calls / donations for ham gear to sell / or what ever . We have an auction end of Jan. every year , we send keep 10% to cover cost of running auction , then send the other 90% to ARRL defense / protect the bands . So got a IC745 last summer and had the dead board , so just sold cheap at he end of summer ham fest we do , so the next guy got a deal , and knew of the optional boards [ $80 - $125 ] . This could be of use the next time ;) Thanks again John
Hi John. I will say the optional purchase boards are great units. But by installing them we learn nothing on how all this works. I have quite a few more tricks up my sleeve for the old IC-745 to come. This programming will help lots of folks that do want originality or to give the original board many more years of life. Thanks for sharing.
Glad this project has finally come to fruition Buddy, know you've been working on it for quite a while...always great when a plan comes together! 73 - Dino KL0S
Excellent job Buddy. People will have an alternative way of fixing this problem. It will also save some of these vintage Icom rigs from the scrap pile. All the best for 2018. 73 Doug.
That's just fantastic Buddy, great job with being persistent & what a wonderful community effort to solve the problem. Now looking forward to programming my boards :)
No rehearsals for Buddy?. Just take the plunge !!. Hit or miss. I Hope your New Year is going well for you and yours Buddy. Thanks for another video.... Angelo.
I think you forgot the link below for the power supply....Glad you have finally managed to fix the Board in the Yaesu brilliant stuff very well done....All the Very Best Wishes Hope you have a great 2018.
hello, thank you for this video which helped me flash the RAM card of my ICOM IC-745! I have a question though. I notice that I can no longer select LSB mode. I can select all the modes (USB, CW, AM….) but once I arrive at FM, if I continue to change modes it switches me not to LSB but directly to USB. The only way for me to select LSB is to be on a frequency between 1 and 7Mhz. Do you have any idea where I should look? THANKS
Happy 2018, Buddy. I hope you had a safe and fun New Years eve. It got down to 12 degrees here (central Arkansas) early this morning too. Okay, you have once again performed a feat of magic. Great video. Thank you for posting it. 73 DE K7RMJ Frank
Hi Frank. Looks like the city will shut down tonight as we are in a state of emergency. The east coast cannot deal with snow and ice. It was 9 degrees F here this morning and they are predicting up to 12 inches here where I live. Yes this was like magic on this repair. The team really pulled it off as this was a group effort. I am proud of each and every one of them. Thanks for stopping in my friend. 73,
Some computers require a bit to be set in the printer status register to enable read/write to take place. The parallel printer port is normally write only, but to verify the ram readback after programming it must also be readable to allow that program to work. Happy to give more info if required as this worked fine for me. Do you know if the 745 firmware is suitable for the 751?
Thanks Bill. Well do not tell anyone but nether do I. I am just a deaf tinkerer lol, Thanks for watching and Happy New Year my friend. It is always a pleasure to see you.
Very good Buddy, always a fun project when the community is involved. Always more than one way to solve a problem or "skin a cat" as they say. Congrad. 73
Thanks Larry. I give all the props to the team that worked on this project. And what a great job they are doing. I knew this could be done a few years ago when I first entered this adventure. Thanks and 73
Hello, I have an icom745, its RAM has been erased. I tried to program it with TL866 as you explained in the video. Even though it says "Programming succes", when I read the RAM it seems to be empty. It also doesn't work when I plug it into Icom. How can you help with this? 73
Sweet job Buddy. I'm thinking of buying one of these rigs from a friend and researching problems and happened across this. Are these problematic like the 430 Kenwood? I have one of those door stops that's been worked on more than operated. It just died and I'm tired of it.
Hi there. First of all, I thank you for sharing such valuable information with us. I would like to know if you can send me the file that I should use to reprogram an ICOM RAM BOARD from an IC 751A. I have built an interface that I got based on an IC CD4040 and using the ICOM-RAM.EXE program which indicates that the recording process has been carried out correctly, when reading the ICOM RAM again I see that it actually contains information, but when installing the board in the IC 751A the equipment does not work correctly, I would like to try it with a different .BIN than the one I have if you can send it to me. Thank you again for your attention. Greetings from Argentina
awesome sauce, happy someone taking on the task of saving a great piece of gear from the scrap pile. all good health to you and yours in 2018!! 73' k7sce
Thanks Buddy, I have a icom745 that I got from a friends wife after he passed away and it is origiinal bought Jan 8 1984, works great but after seeing your video of the ram board, should i be worried due to its age? Thank you very much for you Videos, old and new ones are great, cheers for now and stay away form that virus. Cheers Dave Ve3cmi ( was ve7cmi)
Thanks Sue. But all the work applause goes out to the team including yourself. You have no idea how much your interaction has helped me pursue the interest in the IC-745. Wait till you see the AM mod done :)
Hallo Buddy , I am Hadi YC0BAO , from Indonesia my Icom IC 745 also have a problem with Ram Board , already many year the radio off . Because the s'part is difficult to find or someone can reprogram the Ram Board is .
How did Icom manage to produce and market a radio that would turn into a brick when a tiny battery died? A Collins owner would have to laugh out loud. ( I guess Collins Radios would also survive an EMP event).
LOL, I once wondered that also Ron. But Icom did stand behind the product for many years. I think it was done to keep cost down, if you remember the 80's memory for a computer was crazy expensive. Eproms was also. But their thoughts was to sale radios and a lot of them were sold. Probably figured by the time the battery died folks would want the latest and greatest. And lets not forget about those plastic trimmer capacitors they used. Ah Collins, What can we say.... :)
Добрый день , можете поделится файлом прошивки для трансивера IC-745 для программатора TL866 и схемой подключения платы к программатору. Можете выслать на почту denistishakov@gmail.com . Заранее благодарю с уважением Денис UR4MDE

This guy is just genuine and full of knowledge. Looking for "ham spirit"? Here it is.
Good to see that old girl back working with the original parts. Good job tracking down a solution and getting that thing loaded.
Thanks for the video Buddy, 73's Dale
Thanks dale. The team did well on this one. 73 my friend
@@TheRadioShop Where can I get the programming device where I plug in the circuit board to program?
@@13HN870 Use this link, everything is there.
www.eevblog.com/forum/rf-microwave/programming-volatile-memory-boards-in-older-icom-rigs/
@@TheRadioShop Thanks for the link I measured my battery in the device and surprisingly it still has 3.24V and it's the original battery.
Looks like a winner see what a group of guys with the time effort to get a problem done well. Thanks
I tell you. This is the best group I ever worked with. A several year project has came to life. Thanks for stopping in.

Excellent job Buddy. Your inbox is going to be jammed full of "can you reprogram mine". Nicely done my friend! Joel
Thanks Joel, already 3k emails since last Wednesday, not sure what to do if I get more lol. Great to see you stop in my friend.
I'm glad to see that you finally got what you needed done with the Icom transceiver and receivers. Happy New Year to you.
This one has been a long time coming Randy. Actually a few years now. Thanks and Happy New Year.
Glad this project has finally come to fruition Buddy, know you've been working on it for quite a while...always great when a plan comes together! 73 - Dino KL0S
Thanks Dino, It is been a bit of a draw out project but now we see light at the end of this tunnel. I agree!, Thanks for stopping in.

Thank you. The team came through on this one. It still amazes me what a group can do when asked.
Always enjoy your videos. It's so nice to learn how to fix it yourself.
Thanks Jeff, and I agree.

Thanks Angelo, always good to see you. Hope your New Year is great
Yes it better understand what we do instead of just replacing parts. Thanks Buddy
Thanks Lyle.
Thanks, Buddy. Always good to learn about ram programming. 73, Dan w4mnc
I am learning quite a bit on this myself. Thanks Dan.
