My partner and I had the good fortune of spending time in Koyasan and the pleasure of staying at a Buddhist temple lodging (Kongosanmai-in) before we set off on the four day Kumano kodo pilgrimage trail along the Nakahechi route starting in Tanabe and finishing in Shingu with overnight stay in Takahara, Nonaka, and Yunomine onsen. Koyasan is cool, I spent the night there and it’s so mystical. Definitely want to go back and take my parents once this COVID problem is resolved and safe to travel again

I went to Koyasan with my mother to show her the true beauty of Japan. We both loved it. We stayed at Ekoin, a temple lodging suitable for English speakers! They offer a night tour of Okunoin (also available in English,which I definitely recommend), a fire ceremony in the morning, Buddhist cuisine and meditation session. If you want the full experience, I recommend this temple, since booking is easy for foreigners (yet pricey, but in the same range as the other temple loding in Koyasan)!
