    It would be nice to see a comparison between this Tomlov DM202 and the Andonstar AD409 microscope. Both have a 10" display.

      If I saw correctly, Andonstar has the AD249, with a 10" screen, too. Not 100 percent sure if it is good for electronic work. Thanks for the comments!

    Thanks for a great review, it was really nice to see a side-by-side comparison between the 7' DM201 and the 10.1" DM202. Sadly, the DM201 seems to be unavailable at this time. This comparison prompts two questions from me:
    First, the smaller DM201 seems to produce richer or deeper colors than the DM202. This is quite noticeable in the side-by-side images of the first circuit board that you tested the camera with. The board looks more brownish, perhaps like a sepia image than the greenish color on the 7" display. Is there any way to adjust the color on the 10.1" display?
    And second, will the display function using the AC power adapter without having the battery installed? This in the event the battery goes dead and you have forgotten to charge it. I have seen comments for other Digital Microscopes advising that you not use it while charging the battery as it may cause the battery to have a shorter life.
    Thanks again for a great review, much appreciated!

      Yes there is a color adjustment and I believe the lighting made some difference in the images as well. I did have both cameras set up very similar and the screen image looked closer to me than the recorded image, but yes they both can be adjusted and I should have taken the auto exposure off for the comparison in hind sight.
      Also, yes the Microscope will work without the cell in and just plugged in to the computer or other USB power. Hope it helps and thanks for your comment!;

      @@ThriftyToolShed Thanks for the reply! I'm still hoping for the DM201 to become available again. BUT... That DM202 with the 10.1" screen is growing on me. The extra height on the mounting rod without having to fiddle with the extender piece is an awesome improvement, and the 10.1" screen is the icing on the cake.

      Is the TomLov brand similar to the Andonstar? Or a clone? Thanks you are correct about the color differences between the two models. I am impressed with how high above the work platform the 10" can be & still have a clear image.

      I also just uploaded a video showing the firmware update for the DM202. Tomlov contacted me about an issue found in image quality as pointed out by many viewers and sent us all the links and instructions to update it. The image is noticeably better. Hope it helps.

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  2 роки тому

      @@j.lietka9406 I believe they are similar in ways and not others. Not a clone for sure. The Tomlov has the advantage of the Lithium battery power to be super handy moving from bench to bench or simply taking it with you . The working height is much greater as well. Adonstar has great quality and works better with HDMI with remote monitor and still view and record on microscope. I use the TOMLOV similarly, but use USB and record straight to computer typically. It works well for me so far.

    • @ThriftyToolShed

      That is how the HDMI output is. If connected to HDMI output the microscope display turns off. If I wish to run both displays I can usually connect the USB to the computer and use the camera app to view and even record on the computer directly if desired. I have a large monitor over my bench connected to the computer so it works well for me.

      It works well with most boards under the microscope. The more expensive scope like Northridge Fix sells is better for boards because it has no base plate to be in the way. It is more expensive though for sure when you include the mount.

      Hi,
      Thanks for your kind comment. The scope will infact work on built in battery power or 2A USB power supply. Once the battery is full it can possibly keep the battery charged while plugged into PC, but PC can't fully charge the battery since it's around 2 Amps while depleted. While connected to PC you can either read the SD card from the scope directly or remove the SD card and use a card reader. You can also record to PC directly with USB if desired using PCs Camera app. Or any video capture software.

  • @TychiBalls
    @TychiBalls Рік тому

    Sorry got another question. What do you folks do if the PCB is big and hits the stand for the monitor, making it so you can't get to the area you want to work on, directly under the microscope? I also notice that the one I got is the TOMLOV TRM101 and does not have very good height when raising the lens away from the PCB. So this makes the view very restricted and pretty much no zooming outward. I found that if I detach the monitor from the stand and hold the lens high above my head, then use the focus knob to focus, I can get see so much more of the PCB because it allows for more zooming out. I find it odd that Tomlov limited the max height for the lens in such a way that it does not even come close to using what the lens is capable of in it's full capacity. I know it's a microscope designed for soldering and close ups is the most important but still, if they made the stand a bit higher, you could have so much more viewing options. Right now its kinda like I can view it really close, or really, really, really close. There is no options to zoom out more to see more of the board and it feels like the lens is being somewhat wasted. Is there additional stands that Tomlov offers so you can switch it out if the work you are doing requires more zooming out views? What do you guys suggest for this scenario and that isn't too expensive? I paid about $140 for this Tomlov TRM101 7 inch model and I am willing to spend around that again if there is another model that is better. The thing that interested me about this model was the base and all of it's dividers for parts and also came with a heat resistant mat which was nice too. The work space under the microscope also seemed bigger than most which I kinda liked too. See for yourself:

    • @ThriftyToolShed
      @ThriftyToolShed  Рік тому

      This model is interesting for sure. I notice a few things about it. It is short in work height for sure and unfortunately you can't simply extend it like the other models I have reviewed. I also use a Barlow lens to help get a wider board view, but this model has a different type of scope and the typical Barlow lens may not thread on this one. It also has no side lighting to help with glare. I really like the ones with the taller stand to adjust up as needed.

      have you considered making one with just the camera and stand but no screen ,one that will have a phone or tablet holder so that you can connect to an android device and use that as a screen with an app?
      there are really cheap endoscopes out there that use android apps like that so a phone can be used as a screen , so why not a microscope?
      also what about one with 2 cameras for the microscope that can be connected to a 3D monitor or VR headset? I have PSVR and a Sony 1080p 3D TV ,it would be nice to have something affordable that I can connect to either of those and get stereo 3D microscope output.

The Tomlov has a nice 6" tube extension with some kits and the 32gb card included as well as the ring light and 18650 cells for cordless use if that is needed. Hi!
    I just came across your site looking for some information and help.🙂
    I have an adult autistic son, AJ who is seriously into coin collecting. For his birthday I thought it would be cool to get him a really nice microscope. So being the supermom that I am, I bought him one of these. BUT it has a different brand name. It came from Amazon as a dcorn model 2.0. As I look at this video ( which is really well done for such a new kid to understand ) I can see that it appears to be identical, except your instruction booklet is much better.
    All I really wanted it to do is make coins look very detailed and be able to hook it up to the TV. I think there's some overkill, here, and I don't want to hear any of you guys laughing at me!!!
    AJ has all the knowledge about coins necessary- goes to coin shows, belongs to American Numismatics and so on. What he doesn't have is the manual dexterity to finagle all the little parts and pieces. Eventually the remote will help that, but in the meantime, *I* will be running the microscope and making the magic happen for him.
    Here's what I'm hoping you can help me with. Have I gotten a substandard knockoff here? It looked good on Amazon, but like I said, I am a complete beginner.
    And, am I going to be able to just put a coin there, make it go up and down, get bigger and smaller without messing up all the photography and video thingies? I did get it all assembled and charged up, but haven't gotten into the menu yet. ( Come on now, quit your laughing... that was only last night!!!😆)
    One of the reasons I chose those is because AJ is 7 feet tall and he won't need to bend so much to use it!
    Thanks for any time and help you can give me. Your patience is greatly appreciated.
    Ok. You can laugh now! 🤣🤣

      If I understand correctly you are asking about the actual working of the microscope? So if it is like the one I have then it is really simple.
      Put the coin under it, adjust the up and down to get desired magnification and then turn the adjustment for focus at the lower black tube until it is a clear focused image. Adjust / move lights as needed for the best results. Not much to adjust inside of the menu really. If you want to record, take a snap shot or digital magnify then you have to use remote or buttons, but not just using it to view. Hope it works well for him!

      I believe it would, I use it for repairs mostly. I feel like it would be very useful looking at coins.

      @@ThriftyToolShedWhat is the format of the firmware file? When I turn it on, it freezes on the splash screen, how can I flash it?

      You may have to contact TOMLOV. I don't know of a way to do it if it's frozen. I have very limited resources at the moment and barely get a cell signal at times. We were in the path of Helene. I wish you the best and hope they can help you.
