The band’s name The HU, is the Mongolian root word for human being. They call their style “Hunnu Rock”…inspired by the Hunnu, an ancient Mongolian empire, known as The Huns in western culture. Some of the band’s lyrics include old Mongolian war cries and poetry. The HU combines Rock Music with traditional Mongolian instrumentation like the Morin Khuur (horsehead fiddle), Tovshuur (Mongolian guitar), Tumur Khuur (jaw harp), guttural throat singing and the bombastic bass and drums of rock. All four members have earned Bachelor’s or higher degrees in music and have several years of touring experience throughout Asia and the Pacific Rim.
@@Crazy_Rich_Asian Please tell me if you can. Is there any archeological findings on the Turkic territories and is there any tradition & heritage in Turkic people from Hun empire but all archeological findings and tombs are in the Mongolia and we have many traditions and heritages from Huns empire until now. If I tell you what we have, this comment window is not enough. Maybe, Hungarians are the race of Attila of Hun
I’ve gotten to see the Hu twice now, in 2019 and 2021. It’s a marvelous experience, their music hits you in a fundamental way. You don’t need to understand it, because you *feel* it. Absolutely fantastic. Thank you for doing this song and please do more!
The 3 stringed instrument (banjo or guitar as you called it) is a Tovshuur (Mongolan Lute), the 2 stringed instruments are Morin Khuur (Horse head fiddle), and yes he mimicked the sound of a horse on the instrument which is a sign of a Master Morin Khuur player. Horses are very big in Mongolian culture and is seen in everything, for example the Morin Khuur. Traditionally the “strings” are made from the tail hairs of a horse, and to bind player and instrument, the hairs must come from the player’s own horse. The “male” (thicker) string has 150 hairs, the female (thinner) string has 130. The instrument is played with a bow in a German style grip, and instead of pushing down on the strings (for different notes) you run your finger under the string and apply pressure to the string. It’s very fascinating.

Yes! The Hu are great... looking forward to your "Song of Women" reaction coming up (not yet premiered). Other great songs by The Hu: "Wolf Totem", "Sugaan Essena" (from Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order soundtrack) They also did a tribute to Metallica with their version of "Sad But True"
Thank you for watching the video, It means a lot to me . I will leave this pinned message here to REMIND everyone that i do not have TELEGRAM and there is no GIVEAWAY. Those you see are bot scams . Keep yourself safe and know that I would not ask for your info. ❤ ❤
Who wouldn’t forgive you even if were necessary? You’re so adorable that you can get away with anything. I make more mistakes just doing comments like this than you do doing what you do. (Did I say that right?) Luv ya sweetie!
I love your expressive face and body language when you react!!!! Another reactor I watch often, uses a pet name for Floor Jansen, but I can’t think of a more appropriate name for you! BISSCUTE, YOU MAGICAL UNICORN ❤️😊
If you like The Hu. you should check out Heilung, their Castlrefest Concert is Phenomenal. Kriegsgaldr is long, like 9 - 10 minutes long but it is so worth the showmanship they put into it. It is vary unique show, slow build up but wow.
8:00 It's my understanding that horses are very important in Mongolian culture and this is why there's a horse head on top of the instrument (which is called a morin khuur BTW). The two strings were traditionally made from horse hair, one from a mare and the other from a stallion to represent the balance of male and female. There is also a lot of symbolism in the song itself and I highly recommend that you read the lyrics. Basically it speaks of people in modern day Mongolia ignoring, not honoring and forgetting their cultural heritage.
I know this video is over a year old but the instruments with the 2 "strings" that made the horse sound is called a Morin Khuur (also known as a Horse Head Fiddle). The triangular shaped 3 string is called a Tovshuur (3 string lute). They are both traditional Mongolian instruments. The "whistling" sound is indeed coming from the throat not the lips or sound editing. All the band members are trained in classical Mongolian throat singing. I have got to see them twice now live in concert here in the USA and to me they sound even better live without studio interference. The morin khuur got its name because of the ability of the musicians that play it to mimic the sounds of a horse, and the mongols nomadic nature still to this day and their ties to horses
It's best to find a video with subtitles because their lyrics talk of their heritage. Their instruments are also decorated to imply parts of their history.
All their songs are a tribute to their ancestors, using ancient Tibetan throat singing. Next time you react to them, you should definitely look for the lyrics! This song starts with modern gamer-warriors, but calls us cushioned kids out for not living up to the honor of the warriors that paved the way. Yuve yuve yu is usually translated as "how strange" 3 times.
You might also like xiger xiger ( pronounced "shigge shigge" ) by Hanggai. It's a traditional Mongolian horse riding trail song. It is named after the noises a horse's gear makes when the horse is in motion like sleigh bells or a tambourine.
I can actually do this vocal technique but anyways the lyrics according to Hachapuri (he says it's not the best translation) on youtube: Take it how you want because I've seen multiple translations, some similar, some completely different. They are awesome live. I saw them open for Halestorm last September.
You should use captions so you know what their saying. You can use them on this one, wolf totem, and the Great chinggus khaan. They also did 2 covers of Metallica sad but true and through the never. Yuvy yuvy yu means how strange how strange.
Tuvan throat singing same base technique used for growling instead of consistent vibrato you can vary it more which is what they do as well as a force more air like actually punching air from your diaphragm.
