    I miss my old owl friend who lived in a big old tree right in front of my bedroom window where I'd lived @ in NC for the last 3 teenage years of my life. Unfortunately, his tree house home got uprooted & destroyed by Hurricane Fran in the summer of '96 where NC had been the state it had hit the hardest & caused the most damage to...broke my heart so much bc lil dude had probably lived in that same tree for decades or maybe even his whole life. ❤️🥺

    Without a doubt, the best Great Gray Owl video I've ever viewed. I am a volunteer feeder/handler/presenter for the Washington State University Raptor Club and have been feeding Gus, our non-releasable male Great Gray Owl for over 10 years. I'm hoping the Covid-19 lockdown on our activities ends soon so I can get back to doing that. Gus is amazing and one of our most stable birds. I've had him on-glove when we do "donation walks" in town and he shows a bond with his handlers, sometimes wrapping his good wing around you for security if it's windy. I miss my weekly interaction with him.

      @@mariarohmer2374 Gus is still with us, but due to club restructuring after we came back from the China Virus shutdown, each raptor now has limited handlers and feeders. I have been assigned to Tundra, our male Snowy Owl, and feed and perform his weekly health checks on Fridays.

    He is banding them yes. This is a wildlife refuge and they are doing studies on them. Owls are not like most birds and will not abandon their young if humans touch them. They are very strong parents and won't take this as a negative factor in raising their young. Great greys are very tolerant of humans to a point and will let you get pretty close to them. Awesome birds. Of all the raptors in the world OWLS are the best.

    • @9798angel

      Birds actually will not abandoned the babies it is an old wives tales.

      @@9798angel maybe they will be scared to approach them immediately afterwards, but Ive never heard of an instance where this was actually happened. Building nests and rearing young is hard, I cant imagine they would just abandon their nest like that

    • @voraciousreader3341
      @voraciousreader3341 3 роки тому +1

      @@9798angel You’re wrong! Birds will abandon nests if there has been a severe disturbance or interference by predators or humans. Short-lived birds are pretty tenacious and will usually move their young rather than desert them. But long-lived birds, such as all raptors, will not come back if there has been interference or disturbance. Naturally, this includes owl species! These adult owls have obviously been highly habituated to humans or these men, and obviously don’t see them as a threat....if they did, they might dive or try other ways to get the men to leave the nest, but it’s highly likely they wouldn’t return. I’ll proved a link where I verified my information (www.scientificamerican.com/article/fact-or-fiction-birds-abandon-young-at-human-touch/), but I’ve also followed a raptor expert of 50 years named Martin Tyler from the *Southwest Wildlife Foundation of Idaho,* who has discussed this time and again in his numerous highly informative UA-cam videos. I’d encourage people to subscribe to that page and watch their videos, which are beautifully videotaped.

      @@mrs.stefonmeyers7156 I’m afraid you’re wrong! Raptor species will abandon their young if there has been a significant disruption. I explained more in a reply to the person you responded to, if you’re interested!

      A little harsh to call them cuffs, it's a bird ring, to identify each one of the bird, because when they're grown they'll look exactly the same
