- Making chewing gum deep in the jungle of Guatemala. If you bought gum before the 1950s it was almost certainly made this way. Synthetic gum started to phase out chicle in the 50s and by the 80s the industry was a thing of the past. This man was a “chiclero” from 1965-1979. He hadn’t harvested any chicle or climbed since 1985 and when we asked him if he could still make it not only did he show us how but he also put on my gear and went up the tree himself! That was a lot of work and a really amazing experience!

Lol I went on a cruise to Mexico when I was 14 and one of our tours we rode camels in the desert and we had authentic Mexican food and fresh made corn tortillas and a tequila/ mezcal tasting and the tour guide came up to my noticing I didn't have any alcohol to taste test... he asked my age and he told me here in Mexico, we don't have a drinking age... we have a drinking size and I had like 8 shots within an hour. It was my first time drinking and it was so tasty. Needless to say that night on the cruise was a great time since I also made a friends at the 18 and under club. Under up in a hottub with an 18yr old girl and we made out at like 4 am 😂 BEST TRIP EVER!!!

When I was a kid I would ask all sorts of dumb questions. I one day asked my grandpa how gum was made. My grandpa, being the jokester he is, would say "it's made from the sap of a gum tree." And I was today years old when I realized he wasn't joking- My life is a lie 😃
This is the traditional way that the people of Central America made gum, but in the modern day the tree sap is rarely used anymore, just like how rubber is no longer made from rubber trees, because we can make more through a synthetic process with less effort
