I’m 11 and I take care of 5 pets myself with no help at all and they are living their best life.
I am 12 right now, got my first Guinea pig at 11 and now I have 5 Guinea pigs and I can definitely say I’m pretty responsible for my Guinea pigs and clean them and everything, they are literally my world!

LOL I totally get the whole "how hard it is to bond the pigs".. we started with one, learned needed to get another, they didn't get along so then we had to go get TWO more so they both had buddies... it's a thing :D But I wouldn't trade a single piggie, and we are super happy with our little pig-kids :D

Completely agree that they are not for children and they are not low-maintenance but I think they can be a starter pet for adults that are looking for "non-conventional" pets. I always encourage friends to consider them because there are more pet options than just dogs and cats out there! If you have the means (exotic vet bills are so expensive!), space (why do they have so much STUFF?), some flexibility, and patience to learn how to properly care for them they are so worth it! The amount of joy they bring is incredible and learning their personalities and food preferences and getting them to trust you is so much fun!
Yes totally agree! A great starter pet for adults. I think they are great pets for kids as long as the adult knows they will be doing all the real care and having to pay for all that is needed. They are great for people who are scared of dogs or are allowed to have dogs where they live. Such social little buddies!!!

Thanks for taking the question about going on vacation. I just went away for a week and it was the first time I left my girls since getting them (three piggies, three mice). It took me ages to find a pet sitter in my area who was comfortable taking care of small pets. It cost $560 on top of my vacation but worth every penny. The sitter posted pics and videos everyday so I could have peace of mind that they were ok. If I hadn't found her I wouldn't have had a vacation. Now I just hope she never moves away!

Aww you'll love them. One important thing to know is that they'll b skiddish for awhile if they're babies. Mine stopped being scared when they got to b about adults.

Hopefully the cellist sees this comment! I am a bassoonist and I practice relatively close to my five pigs, and none of them seem to really mind it (one will even come nap in the corner of their enclosure closest to me while I practice). The most recent two were a little spooked by it at first, but acclimated really quickly. I don't notice much of a change in reaction based on level of pitch either.

I was hoping someone would comment to the cellist…. We run our vacuum cleaner right next to the piggy’s cage… they don’t even lookup…and my dog has separation anxiety and flips out every time I grab my purse… I watch the piggies and they don’t even react.. so I think the cellist should be fine..lol..

I took over care of my 6 yr old nieces piggie because of the reasons you stated in the beginning! Long story short he was not being taken care of the way he should have been. I live with my niece temporarily and stuff so I just built him a 2x4 c&c cage and got him proper hideys, food and hay and veggies. Slowly working on hand taming him more and more but waiting till I move and get him another piggie friend before I really work on hand taming him. But I’ve absolutely fallen in love with him and guineas in general. I’m already making plans to upgrade his cage stuff i hate it but love it lol
I litter trained 3/6 with sandbox other 3 are just babies and haven't started training them yet. I trained them by first picking up poop and putting it in the box myself. I use a cardboard box so it can be replaced and aquatic silver sand or reptile sand is best its not always possible to do so as every guinea pig is different but worth a try for hygiene reasons.

After LOTS of study time, I have now got the right cage (and even though it's good size and says for 2 piggy's, I'm making it a bit bigger soon. It's fun)
We are also looking into getting another. I'm just nervous, because cinnamon acts fine. He's out all the time when we are home, so all evening. He plays with our 3 cats. He eats next to our hamster when we do veggie time.
So I know having a buddy is good for him, just nervous about bonding.
And the pet store tried to get the girls grandma to get 2, but she thought it was their way of making a sale and clearing out a cage 🙄
Also he was a snuggle buddy from the start! I have tons of those cute pics. He truly sleeps on us. Eyes closed and all.

Take care...so sorry to hear about your loss. I had 2 rescue girls and just added a baby. She is 8 weeks old! I have to stop myself there or else I would keep adopting. Piggies are the best and you do have to clean everyday.
You're my favourite potato farmers; you're definitely "normal" (my idea of normal, anyway) - so funny, but informative and I love you aren't afraid to go off on a tangent and discuss other things and take us on an adventure. I've had guinea pigs before but I now realise I did so much wrong.
TLDR;
My first guinea pig was my gf's. She (the piggie) lived in a 3' square fish tank on her own with nothing but a food bowl and a water bottle and was fed only pellets - literally every thing you could possibly do wrong. The first time I met the piggie, my gf said "don't get used to her; she's very old and won't live much longer." I'm glad to say she lasted longer than that relationship (3 years), had her living space and diet vastly improved, got companions and even had a baby. Still did so much wrong (be kind!), but much better.
I'm older and wiser now and now I'm retired I've decided now is the time to adopt some piggies. I've recently spent over £2,000 ($3,000) preparing to adopt up to six pigs with luxury outdoor run/living space for the summer months (too cold/wet in the UK to live outside except in summer) and 3x large (12' square) hutches indoors. The run is an approx 12 foot (3 metre) diameter dome with underground tunnel system, an en suite edible garden and converted chicken coop sleeping area. I live adjoining woods, so although my garden is secure with 7' fences, it's totally predator-proof against foxes, birds of prey, rats and cats. It would take a very determined large dog or a human to have a chance of breaking in and I have dedicated 24hr CCTV and a big stick!
I'd love to know your opinion whether it's wise to adopt 6 pigs all together and introduce them in one go and whether having a neutered boar and 5 females is better than 6x females? Bear in mind that for most of the year, the piggies will be in pairs in hutches until I can improve the situation (remodelling my whole house) and have a permanent indoor area for the whole herd as one group. I don't want to confuse and cause problems with the pigs by constantly separating them and putting them all together temporarily. I question the logic of adding newcomers piecemeal to an established group that then disrupts the whole herd rather than starting the group on an even level and letting them (supervised) sort out the heirarchy.
It may sound what I'm planning is chaotic but I have put a lot of time, money and thought into this and I am fully committed to doing what's best for the pigs that I'm going to adopt in about 6 months. Thanks for reading.
I my two kids two Guinea Pigs, well, I got them for me, but also them 🤣 my son can't really help much on his own, he's 4, he is disabled and is still working on getting around with assistance. My daughter, 5, "helps" feed them, I do all the work. However I got them knowing that would be the case, at least until my daughter gets older, and I can give her the appropriate amount of responsibility for her age. So to others moms: if your kids are young- you will be doing all the work, don't expect your toddler or Kindergartner to be able to take care of them. Lol.
My 2 girls don't mind music they are used to it and I do play my music pretty loud especially when I'm cleaning they are usually running and popcorning while the music is playing

I hate water too. People dont get it. They think water has no taste , but it does, and i dont like it.
I got my first pig in 2020 cause my bsf got a cat and I was like omg I want a Guinea pig and when I tell you I had no idea how to care for a piggie I mean it, i thought a Guinea pig was the size of a hamster.... but a month later my mom took me to the humane society and i got my 2 year old neglected rescue pig, I named him opie!!! He is the "average" calico American shorthair skip to a few months later my moms coworker got two female pigs and wanted to breed hers w mine but before we could breed them one of the girls died unexpectedly, vets don't even know why but skip to 2022 opie and bonnie are happily married (the same bsf that got a cat helped me set up a wedding for them), three batches of babies each batch has three babies(second batch had to stillborn) and one miscarriage of four later we are all happy and I did it ALL by myself at the age of 11 to almost 13, many people have tried to put me down throughout the journey because of my age but I think I'm quite independent and mature and yes i agree Guinea pigs shouldnt be given to a small child as a gift but I put my blood and sweat into these smelly hairballs and proved all those haters wrong!!

when i was 6 i got my first 2 guinea pigs but through the yers i ended up having a whole bedroom ust for guinea pigs i ended up rescuing some more and ended up with 7 but i was older once i got more
and i took care of them as much as i could and when i turned 10 i lived on a farm a family fall out we hd to move and i had to get rid of all of my guinea pigs because we all moved in with my grandma but we are currently redoing a old house onche it is done i am getting some more i am now 12.

My Abyssinian, Piglet isn’t a piggie that loves to interact with me. My silkie or Sheltie is a snuggly piggie who gives kisses. I sing to my guinea pigs and they seem to like it. I hope you get better soon.

Love you meico forever and always ❤️ and because he had a cage mate (Bruno) we had to get Bruno a new friend today so the newest member of the family is David! He’s ginger and white and adorable ☺️ he is not, nor will ever be a replacement for meico it’s just so Bruno doesn’t get lonely 😞 meico had an amazing character that everyone could love 💗 fly high with diamond (my past cat and his best friend) 🕊💕❤️💗💗❤️🐹

my piggy has bond with my rabbit , which is super cute. they sleep in same room. moment bedtime comes , peppa will run into her cage with full hay & cool water. rabbit has whole room to run around at night (Peppa eats her vitamins c awhile she is in her bed)

I managed to some how potty train my piggies they still poop all around the cage lol mostly in the corner tho but they like to be held a lot and they do a squeak or a little nibble to let me kno to put them back so they can use the bathroom

I noticed with a lot of cleaning with my piggies, I don’t have to bathe them as much! I just usually do it when they are smelly or have pee stains all around their butt. But I don’t do it often lol

my girlfriend s piggy r using their litter trays the 4 of them r using their trays which is really good its not over the floor now. truellly I would recommend using litter trays just keep at its they will get use to it and use it . lol xx.

Hiii I just wanted to throw out there that m mature children often take care of guinea pigs very well I am 11 and have a 5 by 2 cnc cage that I built and clean all by myself. I spend most of my money on things for the guinea pig so if a child truly proves that they can take care of one they are ready but THEY ARE STILL NOT STARTING PETS

Hey! So I haven’t been 12 for a bit but I have two guinea pigs in a Midwest and they get a lot of floor time, (Ik Midwest is pretty small but I keep them in my room so I can’t have a huge cage and I can’t keep them out of my room because of my dog) so I cannot clean there cage everyday since I keep them at my moms house but I go to my dads house too. I use fleece for the bottom of there cage I want to use guineadad liners but they are a lot of money. So since I’m not with them everyday (but I am most of the time) I’ve been searching a lot for fleece/liners that are good and don’t cost to much, what do you recommend?
Hi there!!! As far as price goes I don’t know which is the best option. I shop on Etsy and guinea dad. I love their liners. Liners are not cheap but are worth it bc it saves your in costs compared to bedding.🐹✌🏽

my girlfriend piggies all 4 of them won't eat fruit at all and veg wise they only will eat kale romaine lettuce and baby salad leafs they won't eat anything else lol xx

I had a skinny pig and had her on fleece and had her 2 bakers a large cage and she started having seizures and had a heart attack and I wanted to die that day I named her after Hippy and called her hippo ;-;
For the person who asked about your piggie choking on their veggies. It’s not bad but if you want to prevent that from happening, I have a pig that chokes on his veggies and I started cutting them up to slow him down when he eats, it works wonders cause now he’s not eating large portions too quickly but smaller portions slower. 💜I hope that makes sense, but yeah try cutting up their veggies, it worked for me.

Ye I’d recommend cut them up I don’t have pigs but I have rabbits and I was feeding my rabbit a banana and he ate it to fast and started choking on it luckily my mam is a nurse and was able to save him

Hi! I'm aware that this is more of a personal question so you do not need to answer me. But just in case you would like to share, may I ask why you had the surgery? You mentioned being in pain daily? I'm asking because I suffer from endometriosis and my life does not even feel worth living anymore because of all the pain. I have my fur babies (6 guinea pigs) and nieces, that's enough for me. They do not listen. I'm so tired of not being heard! I was just curious to what was the reason they agreed on the surgery for you. You can't be that much older than I am, right? I'm sorry if this is a weird comment, I loooove your channel but I didn't know you had this particular surgery. When I watched this video now (binge watching all of your videos right now because I'm in pain and can't sleep) I just felt like I wanted to write a comment about this. Hi! I’m so sorry to hear about your pain! Was the doctor who refused to give you a hysterectomy the same doctor you did the procedure to find out that you have endometriosis? Typically once they go in endoscopically to determine you have endometriosis they will either recommend have surgery to scrape/remove the endometriosis. Which is what they do for women who still want to try having children. Or they recommend you have surgery to remove the organs that are infected with endo. I was 37 when I had the surgery. I never did the procedure to determine If I had endo. I had such a series of issues from excessive blood loss that caused anemia, polyps, and severe pain. My doctor did MRI’s and uterine ultra sounds and from what she guessed from the images she said I probably had adenomyosis which most times if you have that you also have endometriosis. But the only real way to diagnosis either is cut you open and actually see inside. My doctor is who recommended I have a full hysterectomy (I do have my ovaries). Once she Was in there i did In fact have both endo and adenomyosis. I also had a endometrioma on my right ovary with they were able to remove so I could keep my ovary. It’s very important to keep the ovaries if you have not yet gone through menopause. But if the doctor who diagnosed you with endo and did the procedure and still won’t agree to do any type of surgery I suggest you switch doctors and find someone who will listen to what you want for your body. Life without a uterus has been the best thing ever. (I had my uterus, cervix and Fallopian tubes removed) I wish I had done it years ago. I truly feel like I got my life and body back. I wish you the best of luck finding help with your situation and get the peace for your body you deserve.🐹🙏🏼✌🏼

sadly Henry passed away. My vet agreed that his quality of life was at its worst and we did not want him to suffer anymore. I miss him dearly but am so happy he is not in pain and stressed anymore. Henry forever!

Do think I could bond 3 male guinea pigs right now I have a 9 and a 10 month guinea pig and planning on getting a 3 month guinea pig
it will all depend on their personalities. you really never can tell until you try and if bonding does not go well the first attempt it usually will remain that way. They pretty much decide within those first few hours. good luck!

Hi! Yes I more meant that parents will have to be willing to pay for what piggies need and not all parents understand what goes into proper care for guineas pigs and how much they actually cost. Which is why I don’t suggest them be a child’s pet if they aren’t aware/willing for all the costs involved/ doing the laundry/ trimming nails and doing health checks/ weighing them/ making sure you have a vet that sees exotic animals. 🐹✌🏽

I am so sorry about henry but in that part where you said that you do not recommend children under 12 or 18 have a piggie I am 9 but I give my piggies a good life I clean thier cage and my mom knows how to sew and we make alot of hidies for them and I make hay for them and not to be rude but I think you can have a piggie if you know the right info and I spent mounths learning about them and our vet that we use for our dogs she is an exotic vet and she has a piggie har self
Hi Chelsea! I will send the same message to you that I have sent to other young humans like yourself…. you are a rare find! A true gem💎. But for most cases kids do not take on all the responsibilities nor follow through with them. We need more kid pet owners like you in this world. If we did there would be less guinea pigs getting rehomed, in shelters or not living the life they should be. This is why I usually deter people from getting them because they don’t do all that you do. And I’m so thankful to have people like you apart of the guinea pig community.
