One of a kind dumb. All they had to do was say that whiterose is a crossdressing transexual and the chinese gov. would have sent him to a gulag. But nope, they even call him a she because they are courteous white knights. So dumb...
When Elliot's father says "Even though what you did was wrong, you're still a good kid" it's like manipulation, I think he (the father) also justified himself for what he did, like "I'm doing bad, but I'm still a good father"
hypothetically this could have been a real memory Elliot has of his father, one from before he became abusive. Or it could have just been a hallucination. I like that it's kept ambiguous. relationships with parents are complicated, and even the worst ones can make a couple good memories.
No his dad was really like this, in fact he was like this most of the time. He was a bestfriend more than a father, which is why it damaged Elliots psyche so much when he did what he did to him.
"I steal, son, but i don't get caught. That's my contract with society. Now, if you can catch me stealing, then i'll go to jail, but if you can't, then i've earned the money" Is this what Mr. Robot was reffering to?
Imo he meant that even if what you do is bad, as long as you are still a moral person and the victim is a bad person, what you're doing is ok. Of course, there are levels to it like stealing a 20 from a jerk is ok, but killing someone for cutting you off is not. I guess.

I still find it hard to believe that Edward would be bad person, he feels humble, real and loving father instead of being a monster what Elliot described him as
But u have to understand that the Edward that we saw are from the eyes of elliot, elliot mind changed Edward to make him into mr robot because that is what he needed.
the father elliot remembers in the show that we see is not how he really was, he is a version that he created in his head to block out what happened to him as a child. Thats why he says that he cant protect him anymore if krista helps him to remember what went down. Because he is not really his father but a mental "robot" if you will, a robot that he programed to be the father he truly wanted to have and block out the things he could not stand to remember. It can get a little confusing at times but you gotta remember that "we" the viewers are also not real, we are another imaginary friend so what we see in the show is what elliot imagines or even sometimes what he imagines we would see.
Something hard to accept is that monsters are humans. His father was a monster, but he had moments of humanity and those were the only ones that Elliot remembered.
I remember when i caught this show on the tv at 2016. Life was easier, times were different. I related to Elliot in so many ways and now i'm different person. I gotta rewatch this amazing show soon.
Mr. Robot, Breaking Bad, The Wire, Sopranos and True Detective are all of my all time favorites. I also liked Game of Thrones until after season 3 when they started screwing it all up.
When I was a kid, I had a period where I stole money from family members. Long story, but I'm not a thief, I was acting out. My Uncle was a bartender and always had change in jars and he was the main victim of my thievery. One day, after all of the stealing stopped (they knew it was me and I got caught) my Uncle told me "You know, you're a good kid. Even though you stole some quarters, I still like you". The way that sat with me is actually bringing me to tears as I write this. My Uncle could have yelled at me, told me I was awful, called me a crook, but instead he told me I was a good kid. That had an amazing impact on me and it's a moment I'll never forget and I'll always be thankful for. Thanks, Uncle Mark.
People seem to be confused, this isn't the Mr Robot persona, it's his actual dad, his dad was good most of the time, how do we know? Because in the pictures he looks back on with him and his dad he seems like a fun father, which is why it hurts knowing the darker side of him, it's realistic because abuser's can seem like normal people. Also we know its his father because the guy interacts with him and not Mr Robot through Elliot otherwise the dialogue wouldn't make sense

I'm pretty sure they were going for a different direction with his father, a more complex relationship where he was like in the memories, but ignored him always, or just verbally abused him or something like that, not what he ends up doing, which is a much more "simple" evil and doesn't take much to establish. If someone is that kind of monster, there's no nuance and you don't need to justify their character. I'm sure there had to be a season 5, because season 4 felt crammed with a lot less backstory given to justify a plot twist. And oh boy are there so many plot twists in that season.
lmao there's literally a flashback montage in season 4 to ''justify'' the edward reveal, using scenes from all the previous seasons, yet you have the gall to say it was a last minute change? Also, characters dont need to be ''justifiable'' to be good characters. His father served his role in the narrative, by developing the main character and the themes of the show.
