"Sega Fighters Megamix" Virtua on robots, yakuza characters, more sonic characters, Virtua fighter 5 characters, fv 2 characters, all the Virtua cop ones, space channel 5, streets of rage, golden axe, my god, so many Sega franchises lend themselves to it.

Great job on Fighters Megamix!!! The Saturn was my favorite sega system! And I couldn't care less what others think about that! I purchased my Sega Saturn in new New Jersey while I was in the U.S. NAVY... My love for it goes deep... Fighters Megamix was my go to game when I was able to get my little brother and cousins into something other than trouble... I salute you for giving homage to a truly amazing masterpiece... I love it!!!😎
Fighters Megamix is and always be my favorite fighting game of all time. I'm not even a huge fighting game fan but I made sure to unlock EVERYTHING in this game when I got it.
Never thought about how much I needed this game, especially since it has the training mode that shows you which buttons you press! I hate being clueless in fighting games, which is in every game but Smash Bros.
I remember the good times when my Dad would take me to rent a Jim Carrey movie and a Saturn game on a Friday before ordering pizza. I had a blast playing theough games like this while my Dad and his roomate Dace would practise wrestling in the other room. Unfortunately my Dad passed away from AIDS he got from a blood transfusion. RIP Dad.
One of my favourite 3D fighting games and arguably the best on Saturn just because of all the content it contains. I still play this regularly and it still looks great with all the lighting effects and the plane taking off which was missing in Fighting Vipers. Perhaps its greatest strength was not having an arcade version, as Sega didn't seem to understand the difference between the home and arcade market's most of the time with very little content added. Yet this is full to the brim with fighters and stages plus great cameos from many others such as Janet from Virtua Cop or fighting the Daytona Car. My only complaint is why is there no Sonic in this? Overall this was Sega at their best and a glimpse at what could have been and it would be years before Sonic and Sega All Star Racing Transformed proved once again how great these Sega crossovers can be
I've been a subscriber for a long time and watch virtually all of your videos. UA-cam's jackass algorithm was trying to get me to answer a survey if I'd like to watch this one... I turned all notifications on immediately.
Hey! Big fan of your work, I love video games and Sega certainly had several gems on their platforms. On that note, are there any notable Sega/Mega CD sports games? Maybe enough to do a video about? I'm pretty sure NBA Jam, NHL 94, Sensible Soccer all fit on the list, but I don't hear much discussion about these games. I mean, try finding a video on UA-cam about Bouncers (if that counts.) I know you just did a video on the Sega CD, but I wanted to ask in advance. Keep on making the best Sega content on UA-cam!
Dude I Love this game. And its a concept, even today, I think sega should consider to retake Imagine a Fighters Megamix 2 with caracteres from All Virtua Fighters Series, All Fighting Vipers and also Last Bronx, Sonic The Fighters and whatever sega releasead as a Fighting arcade at time Nowdays, with 100 Gb blu-rays you can load The shit out of content without problems. Imagine in The unlockable (or dlc) characters People from Sreeets Of Rage, Shinobi, Altered Beast, Golden Axe, Phantasy Star and other "Non Fighting" sega games. This could easily become sort of the Sega's Super Smash Bros. The company have no idea how valuable their IPs are.
Got given some money to buy this for a birthday gift when I was kid. They were selling it over here in the UK at GAME bundled with the Arcade Stick. I will never forget buying it. I remember the guy behind the counter, for some fucking reason, telling me that Sega had "closed down" that day and would never be releasing anything again. Such a weird thing to tell a customer. It was strangely satisfying buying Panzer Dragoon Saga from the same store and the same guy later that year.
Played this at a video game lounge all the time, they only had 5 Saturn games but this was one of them. Very fun, unfortunately the lounge closed down.
I've never seen/heard of this game before today. I randomly saw this in a local store for 40 bucks, and I was like "What the fuck is this?!" I feel like I found an ancient Sega artifact.
I honestly don’t know why Sega doesn’t just make Fighting Vipers and Virtua Fighter part of the same universe like Capcom has done with Street Fighter, Final Fight, Rival Schools, and Slam Master’s.
Sega needs to get its head out of its ass and make a Sega All-Stars Fighter. I yearn for a collection of varied Sega characters (like, more varied than the typical pool of Sonic and Golden Axe but not ignoring Streets of Rage) duking it out to reach final bosses like Eggman, Neff, and The Magician.
Found this game by accident.... Kept seeing it sitting It on the rack in the import section. Saw Bahn and Akita on the cover and thought it was some kind of card game.... I never knew what I was looking at. Turned the box around and kept seeing question marks for unlovable characters. I still was buying games that I played in the arcade from Neo geo and Capcom until..... My friend had a friend who stopped by the house while we was playing Guardian Heroes. He said he had a game call “Fighters Megamix”. The same game I saw on the rack... I said ain’t that a card game? He said he’ll no it’s a fighter. thought it was too good be true... UNTIL I TURNED IT ON AND PLAYED IT!!😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍😍 80% of VF3 moves added in plus the evade in Vipers game engine?? Zen-La!!!! Mind you. Virtua Fighter is my favorite fighter. I been praying for a part 2 but SEGA never listens. As A AMERICAN STAR PLAYER IN VIRTUA FIGHTER 5: FINAL SHOWDOWN. We need a VF6 or Fighter Megamix 2 bad. This is a great video. Thank you for recognizing this gem.
this was definitely a top shelf game for the saturn. i just missed out on playing the import version to use pepsi man. nothing was more satisfying than the ring outs via plowing people through the cages or the rubber band rings lol
Hah, I rarely hear anyone talk about this one. :) That’s actually the reason I decided to speedrun it! Trying to get some of those sub-10 second kills was difficult.
I've played a lot, this was the definitive 3d fighter for the console, it's the Saturn's Tekken 3. I really enjoy the secret characters and the Virtua Fighter 3 updated moves. I think that this is a well known game, it even has a terrible Game.com port/version. Gotta love Rentahero.
Great video. I loved Fighters Megamix. I was already importing for the Saturn by then, and I happened to see an import copy at a local shop, and I picked it up immediately. It's one of my best gaming memories as I was allowed to get two new games for the start of a school break. The rest of my family was taking a trip and I was staying with my grandparents because I hated going away at that point -- vacations were always more draining to me than anything, and I just wanted to play arcade games anyway. The game I got with it was Dragon Force. I knew nothing about it other than people I knew loved it. It was a good day for me, indeed. Fighters Megamix was the early star, easy to pick up and play. Dragon Force took a while to understand things, but I don't even need to describe its greatness, as I agree with your take on that. Needless to say, I was quite the satisfied gamer for that school break, and I was playing those games for many hours each day and well into the night. It was an amazing time. Two great games, minimal supervision, and my trusty cat. I always thought the graphical changes from Virtua Fighter 2 to Fighters Megamix was an even trade. Virtua Fighter's higher resolution was great, but I really liked the lighting and shading in Megamix which gave it more of a 3D look than before. Also, nice little dig at Stolar. He deserves it.
Wow nice. I literally just found my Fighters Megamix yesterday! Was excited I still have it even if I no longer have a Saturn X). I'll snag one eventually. I still have a large chunk of my game collection since the store wouldnt take my scratched games with no cases, back when I traded all my games for cash. Theyve been scuffed up since before i owned them, a hand me down from a friend. but Saturn never had an issue. Discs keep popping up in old boxes telling me I need my Saturn back
The SSF emulator will let you use your original disc in your Windows PC if it has a drive for the disc. SSF works very well if you have good hardware. The days of bad Saturn emulation are behind us.
There's a rumor Virtua Fighter is getting a reboot soon. I think you're right. If they wanted to bring Virtua Fighter to the modern era, I'd combine it with Fighting Vipers, Last Bronx, _and_ Yakuza (for modern relevant reach)
I fucking love this channel. I bought so many good saturn games thanks to Sega lord X. Having a great time with them. So much information on this channel. Easily the best on UA-cam. Thanks for the content.
Fighter's Megamix sacrificed graphics for gameplay. If I could have only one Saturn fighting game, I guess I'd go with Megamix. Megamix is like a really big bag of candy where some of the sweets are not so good but it makes up for all that with its weight and variety. If we imagine Tekken 3 as being the greatest PSX fighter, then I think of Megamix as being the one game of the underdog console (Saturn) that can go toe to toe with Tekken 3 (These games were released only months apart). I feel like Megamix has aged very well.
This game is sometimes completely WTF. VF3 movements and attack have also been added for the characters. I believe that this game was also a draft for the future VF3.
I definitely prefer the VF2 hi res graphics but the lighting and infinite plane is nice in Fighters Megamix. Wasn't Fighting Vipers and Fighters Megamix both 30fps on the Saturn?
I played this when I was visiting family members at Delano during Filipino Weekend around probably 1997 or 1998, and remembered just having an absolute blast playing Fighters Megamix. Sadly that was one of the rare times I ever played the Sega Saturn, as I never owned one and didn't know anyone who owns one either. I'm proud to say that I will finally own a Saturn as well as Fighters Megamix next week, as of the time of this comment. And I'm very excited to play this one after so long.
Hiding the secret characters' movelists was a huge mistake, though. Without a guide, you won't know that Hornet actually turns useful (or at least into a Bahn clone) when its armor is broken, and Deku STILL mystifies me.
SEGA had two stashes of drugs, one of those stashes was out of date and they didn't know which was which. When they got the good stash they made games like this one. But when they went for the bad one...
I remember playing this at a demo station at Sears inside a mall during summer 1997. It was a great game but it didn’t convince me to buy the Sega Saturn. Instead I was won over by crash bandicoot demo on the Sony PlayStation and by the fact that people were saying it was the coolest thing to get since there’s so much variety of games and you could play music CDs on it. As someone who was about to become a freshman in high school that fall and wanted to be a cool kid, I got the PlayStation instead of the Saturn or the Nintendo 64 even though I loved the Star Fox game demo they had at Sears. I’m happy to say that I made the best choice and the PlayStation played a positive role in my teenage years.
Oh I know I needed this game back in the day. Me and my friends played the crap out of Fighters Megamix! We were like the only people in our neighborhood to be proud owners of the Saturn. It was this game and Guardian Heroes we played the most!
They should pull a PlayStation Classic in reverse: whereas Sony crippled their own games using the PAL versions, Sega should include the Model 2 version of a game when there's a Model 2 version of it. (ex: Virtua Fighter 2, Daytona USA, etc.) Make modern gamers wonder why the hell people thought the PlayStation was more powerful.
Damn, only now I realized that Bahn from Fighting Vipers is inspired by Jotaro Kujo from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusader Arc. That hat merging with the hair and the stoic attitude is not a coincidence.
the US conversions of Saturn 3d fighting games often missed something from the Japanese ones IRC. Fighting vipers was missing pepsi man and Honey's risque ending.
nimaiiikun that’s funny I was just thinking about how Dural looked like Pepsi man and I laughed a bit to myself after remembering the AVGN episode he was in
Didn't know about a removed ending, have to check it out whenever I have an ODE for my Saturn. But it's true, but I think in most cases it's a licensing issue. In Virtua Fighter kids the loading screen between fights have a Japanese soda featured, it was even in the name of the game over there. Java Tea.
I remember being happy when I heard Fighting Vipers 2 was coming out on Dreamcast... Because I felt this meant we weren't too far away from Fighters Megamix 2 on Dreamcast... Perhaps we would have gotten such a game if the Dreamcast hadn't died... The original came out when I was 18 or so... Oh man... the hours of fun I had with this game. I was a Virtua Fighter player, but I chose the Fighting Vipers mode because I could slam people through the fences on a finishing move... And then I found out it, if you were cable to launch your opponent just right with a finishing blow, you could get them to land on their back right on the fence and you'd hear a little crunching noise as they stayed there... From then on, I constantly tried to do this... And it was very difficult to pull off(at least for me), but I was so entertained by this that I wouldn't give up.
I have this for my saturn and being in the UK and pal region you immediately think that it would be slower. But sega did something very good with a lot of their games by optimising them so no speed was lost. Which is why if you try to play a Pal game on US/JPN saturn with just a action replay cart you might get a blurring effect!

VF3 actually released earlier for arcades. Like, July I think. This was released in december
@@blackwind677 yes, of course I was talking about a Saturn version of VF3.
This was my first 3d fighting game purchase ever, it felt a bit mishmashed comparing to VF2 but I enjoyed it a lot and consumed my pad on it
I definitely prefer the VF2 hi res graphics but the lighting and infinite plane is nice in Fighters Megamix. Wasn't Fighting Vipers and Fighters Megamix both 30fps on the Saturn?
I wish Sega becomes a full on Microsoft funded company and release games exclusively on xbox starting with the Racers Megamix that never came.
jajajajaja when i saw the tittle i just remenber the car and piece of meat characters
Fighters Megamix 2 shouldve happened a long time ago. Kazuma Kiryu vs Lan Di who wins?
I played this when I was visiting family members at Delano during Filipino Weekend around probably 1997 or 1998, and remembered just having an absolute blast playing Fighters Megamix. Sadly that was one of the rare times I ever played the Sega Saturn, as I never owned one and didn't know anyone who owns one either. I'm proud to say that I will finally own a Saturn as well as Fighters Megamix next week, as of the time of this comment. And I'm very excited to play this one after so long.
Get Get Go. Get Go.
i just wish they added more Sonic characters and NiGHTS
I never played this much but fighting vipers is one of if not the best 32bit 3D fighting games made,I think its better than tekken 3 in a lot of ways.
Super game! Best fighting game of the 5th generation 👍
they should add this game on the sega ages for the switch
WWWWHHHHHAAAAATTTTT!!!!! I NEVER KNEW THIS EXISTED!!!! Sega Lord X. Is SEGA DAITIE X!!!!!
Oh yes I did sir excellent game.👍🏾
Hiding the secret characters' movelists was a huge mistake, though. Without a guide, you won't know that Hornet actually turns useful (or at least into a Bahn clone) when its armor is broken, and Deku STILL mystifies me.
SEGA had two stashes of drugs, one of those stashes was out of date and they didn't know which was which.
When they got the good stash they made games like this one.
But when they went for the bad one...
With a car from Daytona USA is preatty stupid put in one fighting game, but this is Sega and they alone fail for it
Trying to get friends to play this with me instead of Tekken at their places....was sadness.
Who might the individual at 9:55 be?
Bernie Stolar.
Models were better in VF2 and had more details like kage losing the mask, or akiras headband moving.
I laughed incredibly loud at the Sega of America dig. Perfection.
That was necessary. Sega Of America was ran by inept clowns who ended up bringing down the entire company
Such a shame. I still love the saturn. They ran the saturn into the ground
@@stevensonchambers5577 Sega of Japan was even worse.
Oh I know I needed this game back in the day. Me and my friends played the crap out of Fighters Megamix! We were like the only people in our neighborhood to be proud owners of the Saturn. It was this game and Guardian Heroes we played the most!
Yes!!!😎
Yeah me too, we had parties with this game, play till 4am in college. Nutty.
same here but also add Daytona c.c.e. as well
If it wasn't Capcom arcade fighting games ports that I was playing on my Saturn back in the day, it was Guardian Heroes and Fighters Megamix
Back in 1990s i only knew 1 person who had a saturn.. I remmeber block buster would let you rent the whole console.
Yeah! Thanks for the quick updates these days, SLX. Always tremendously enjoy your videos!
This is exactly why SEGA needs to release a Saturn compilation or even a Saturn mini. So many great yet overlooked games!
If only it weren't so hard to emulate.
@@birchmahogany2718 Emulating the Saturn is pretty easy these days.
@@birchmahogany2718 It's not the emulation, it's the copy protection on Saturn CD-ROMs. A Saturn Mini would not have that issue.
What a good idea ! I’ll be so happy to have a mini Saturn, with Sega rally, night, virtua fighter, shinning the holy ark, panzer dragoon...
Damn, only now I realized that Bahn from Fighting Vipers is inspired by Jotaro Kujo from JoJo's Bizarre Adventure Stardust Crusader Arc. That hat merging with the hair and the stoic attitude is not a coincidence.
No he isn't.
Then what is he based off of @@ColossalKilla
Developers: How many characters we need in Megamix?
Sega: YES
One of the games I had as a 10 year old. Fighting against the Hornet from Daytona USA is still funny.
We need a new Virtua Fighter 6 and all “sega arcade racing game remastered collection collector Edition”. Pure 90s fun.
the US conversions of Saturn 3d fighting games often missed something from the Japanese ones IRC.
Java Tea.
@@JoypadDivison There are actually TWO VF Kids games released in Japan: the regular version, and a "Java Tea" edition.
@@mattkennedy6115 Pepsiman was unoffically called Dural's mutant brother by gaming magazines.
@@El_Cheapo Java Tea was a demo version. Not an actual game release.
I used to play this all the time after school at Funco Land.
Funcoland! YESSSS. I went there after school also.
I remembered playing this game back in my elementary school days. They need to bring this series back. So many memories.
One of the first titles I imported for my Saturn. I absolutely LOVED this game! I’d pay a lot for a modern remastering of this or even just a port.
