- I went out and hit the flats in search of some Gator Bluefish and I ended up finding them…Landed 2 behemoths and a few other smaller ones and also a bass before heading back in. Joe Baggs 7” Bone colored swimming plug was the lure of choice and tsunami slim wave 7ft Med-heavy fast action paired with a VR125 Van Staal. What a fight! The last time I fished for Blues was out of Freeport off Staten Island on a night bite in 1986. 18lbs on 14 lb test. They are sooo strong. You like challenges with the light tackle. We called them "choppers" back then. Nice video!
