I’ve seen numerous builds and this is exactly what I would want First it’s a Cummins with a manual and then the Bags man that’s a life saver and game changer it supports weight and is still comfortable ride great job it’s phenomenal
I skipped out and haven't been watching you for a while, the burb has come a very long way, you are light-years ahead of me, but, I am about to pull the trigger on my project. A neighbor has granted me access to some heavy machinery to do some of the lifting, this is going to be fun.
A true dream truck. I am glad to see the neatness that you apply in your projects. Good luck with the new store! Greetings from a recent subscriber from Córdoba, Argentina.
My focus is getting my burb back on the road after taking out 2 big does back in March. Had to do some scavenging for a few parts. But im almost ready to start slapping this thing back together. Keep up the dope videos. Love your content..
Fire set up!! 🔥🔥🔥 sorry to say I’m just now subscribing to your channel after three years of watching your videos. Also I just came in possession of a 1984 suburban as of ten minutes ago and your channel was the first thing I thought of for modifying this truck. so keep the content coming cause I’ll be watching more intently.
The more I watch these builds, the more I realize that my 2002 F350 7.3L Diesel (SRW- 9ft flatbed), ZF 6spd manual, w/ manual transfer case and manual locking hubs. (dana 60 front and dana 80 rear) -- is a perfectly built truck. lol.. This thing has all the upgrades that you builders like to throw on your builds.. I love it. I was thinking of swapping a Cummins in this thing eventually--- but I'm at 330k miles and still going strong. So I guess I'll just keep running it. There's a channel called "zip ties and bias plies" -- that loves these 7.3's, and he has a second tank where he literally dumps old motor oil and runs his truck off of the old, used, black motor oil from oil changes. lol.... I've seen other channels run these diesels with used veggie oil from like a KFC or Mcdonalds deep frier.... but old engine oil?? lol-- it's hilarious to watch--- apparently it works great.
Your Burb is about as bad ass as a square body gets. I own the Holy Grail of square bodies. It is a 1991 Chevy Silverado V3500 3+3 Crew Cab that I have owned for about 20-years. It is the only year square body that came stock with a 4L80E over-drive transmission connected to a NP205 transfer case. It has 10" of lift with 38" tires. It has a lot of suspension and steering mods from ORD and DIY4X. It has a similar stance, hight , and look as your Burb, but is no where near as trick as your Suburban. I have not seen you on CK5 in a while.
I'd make sure you drill some holes in your little cradle cups that hold the bags at the bottom. because it looks like they could/ will hold water and sit there and rot the bag over time. So a few simple 3/8's holes will give the water somewhere to drain out.
Love the builds they are Awesome Riggs I have a old 1985 k5 4" lift 38x15.50r15 Super Swamper Thornburg 350 10.5 to1 cam intake. Kids love it. But transmission out. We take it everywhere went to The Big Meet run last year Oklahoma. Had a blast
James, I think I see a potentially serious issue with your Viair compressor. Maybe it's the shadow of the video but it looks like the back of the air filter housing is missing so dirt and sand will get sucked into the compressors cylinder. One grain of sand will score any compressor cylinder to piston clearance preventing the compressing of molecules. I build 12 and 24 volt compressors for a living and internal sand/grit will destroy the compressor in a matter of seconds. Hopefully I'm wrong and the cover is there. Keep up the good work on the square bodies!
Hey James, this is so sweet! Love seeing the bags on the burb. Two questions for you? Is there a way to add bags for a daily suspension upgrade? I noticed you said yours were mostly for towing upgrade. Second, please tell me you’re considering tackling adding rear steer!!! Would love to see your video of you working on that
Dude the struggle is real! This was the biggest thing for me when I was working in my driveway. I faced due west so the sun would blast me! It was BRUTAL. Phoenix summer is no joke
I have the disconnecting sway bar on my K5. I can’t decide which is worse, driving on these Vegas streets without a sway bar, or trying to go wheeling with one.
I have a question for you. So I have a 2006 ram 3500 dually flat bed with a blown motor I'm using for parts for my 81 K30 crew cab 12 valve swap. I'm swapping the flat bed, rear axle and trans (g56) off the ram into the K30 for the build. The questions I have are, 1) is a 4 link kit really worth the ride quality over custom off road design leaf's? 2) Do i swap everything into my K30 like you and most people do or do I just put the cab on the frame of the ram? I know my kingpin is a better axle than the aam 9.25 on the ram but for street driving and towing which is what ill be doing with the truck is it rally worth all the extra work? If I swap the cab of the K30 onto the frame of the ram all I have to do is move the motor and trans backward 4-5 inches and new cab mounts. Just looking for your option on the matter. thank you.
Yea, I didn’t get into it in this video but I ended up getting the driveshaft shortened by about 4 inches and I needed pinion shims (under the leafs) to get my driveline angles happy again. I knew all this going in though, partly why I procrastinated. Just wish I hadn’t after driving it! So much better!
Just curious, Would you recommend also running rear sway bar if running off-road designs custom leaf springs? Have a 10 inch lift with 40in tires on a 02 2500hd. I haven't been able to drive it yet, at the shop right now getting front and rear driveshafts made and axle gear changes.
How the hell do you manage to dry that truck ont he highways in Cali? The highways are a shit show in Cali even with a new vehicle with all the weird and broken roadways and the people.
Do you sell truck parts. I have some little things I’ve been looking for and can’t really find them then I came by you channel. Do you have a Instagram or something?

Thanks dude. It really does check all the boxes for me.
Don't worry, it's Heavy Duty with all the work you put in.
Lol it is now, I’m just still hammering it to see what the next weak link is. I think it’s the radiator. I think it’s too small

It's sn incredible rig brother I've enjoyed watching the whole build!
Don't really like suburbans, but yours is the nicest one I've seen.
you better be careful saying that out loud around here lol

Yea those 7.3 don’t die. I wanted a 7.3 excursion years ago.
Great work James. It's a great tow/exploration rig!
Cheers Kuch! Get that Jeep finished!
@@MerricksGarage absolutely, it's getting there.
I definitely agree on keeping the sway bar!

sounds like a killer truck! I haven't been over to CK5 for a while, but I do still lurk there occasionally!

yea, the cover came off, but its got a temp one on there. I need to fix it properly. Thanks!

Rear steer? Are you crazy?
SWEET !!!
It is a credit to you!!
Thanks man, btw your messages to me keep disappearing. Email might be easier. James@merricksgarage.com
What is holding me back? Heat. Darn garage is hot in Phoenix during the summer.
Same here in Texas! Triple digit heat wave and high humidity. Added an Exhaust fan and More Insulation. Helping alot

@@MerricksGarage My garage faces east so I have a few hours in the morning for a little work to get done.
@@MerricksGarage SHADE TREE MY … HAHAHH
Settled. I’m swapping a burb and Cummins onto an F250 frame. Beni’s; pumpkin and exhaust/starter on opposite sides.
Honestly that’s a damn good way to do it. Make sure you got that Super 60 under it too!
@@MerricksGarage I think it’s late 90’s so whatever that had.
Wish I had the resources to have a shop, I'm building mine in a gravel driveway
Have you watched the first couple hundred of my videos?
@@MerricksGarage no

Ha ha. That’s a good way to put it. I have been without for so long I just got used to the crazy body roll
They didn't make 1 ton burbs from the factory right? 1/2 ton and 3/4 have the same frame
Frames were slightly different but no one ton burb
How much rear suspension travel did you loose with the bags. I assume they do a good job as a bump stop tho
I’m not really sure. Nothing too noticeable but I do notice that I can no longer get full travel from the ADS shocks.
When inflated they do a really good job as bumpstops. So much so that it would be cool to have two rebound settings. One for airbag one for none
Do you know the correct Bilstein shock package for a 86 K20 with a 6 in lift ?
There are too many variables. Just measure your travel and research lengths.

Would the cross over steering be worth it with only a 2" lift?
What rims and tires have you installed in the suburban?
Did you need to make any driveline corrections after reversing your leaf springs?
Yea, I didn’t get into it in this video but I ended up getting the driveshaft shortened by about 4 inches and I needed pinion shims (under the leafs) to get my driveline angles happy again.
I knew all this going in though, partly why I procrastinated. Just wish I hadn’t after driving it! So much better!

No I doubt you will need a rear sway but it will be a big truck!
I’m putting my headers on my Ls swapped K5
Heck yea. Which ones? I went with schoenfelds and they have been killer
@@MerricksGarage That’s what I’m finally putting on there long over due. On a side note I’m the one that sold Steve that green 78 Blazer.
