  • In this video we are going to talk about How to maximize Social Security for Married Couples
It’s just a fact that married couples have more Social Security options than single people do and with just a little planning, you and your spouse can make maximize your Social Security benefits in a way that is most suitable for you.
A couple of things to know before we get started:
1.) There are more options and strategies than we will cover in this video alone.
2.) Coordinating your strategy with your spouse will help you both get the most out of your Social Security Benefits.
3.) It doesn’t always make sense to claim your own Social Security Benefit!
4.) Many couples employ a split strategy because it fits their needs with one taking the benefit earlier and one of them waiting to collect later.
The very first thing you should do is either schedule a visit with your local Social Security office or the Social Security Administration Website. What you are looking for is an estimate of benefits for both you and your spouse. These used to be sent out annually after your reached a certain age but this policy was changed a few years ago.
The Social Security Administration provides estimates for how much you'll collect if you start receiving benefits at the earliest opportunity of age 62, your full retirement age (depending on when you were born that will be between 66 and 67), and the maximum age 70. You don't have to start taking your benefits at any particular age; you and your spouse can start collecting anytime between ages 62 and 70.

Watched numerous Social Security strategy videos. Looking beyond the "basic" information that most videos offer, this one was the most informative/helpful in regards to actual "strategies".

10:41 can the lower earner claim at 62 and the higher earner get a spouse benefit while the higher earner grows their benefit?

We were both born in 1957, so we will reach full retirement age at 66 years & 6 months. The higher earner in this scenario will get a check that is almost, but not quite, double the other spouse's delayed payment (waiting to age 70). QUESTIONS: If both spouses worked for more than 10 years, can they both collect - - - or only collect the higher check of the two? If both spouses are close in age and do not need the social security check for their retirement, should both wait until they are 70 to collect?

What is your full retirement age? How old is your wife? Wife could get 50% of your benefit as a spousal benefit depending on age, your full retirement age and her age. She would be entitled to a survivor's benefit If you pass first. So, with both alive, wife gets spousal, you get benefit on your record. After you pass, wife would switch from a spousal benefit to a survivor benefit. She would get 1 monthly check based on your higher benefit and the smaller spousal benefit would be discontinued.

You'll get 100% Of your retirement benefits and your wife 50% of what you receive separately if she's 67 or less depending on her age.

I am a veteran and considered to be permanent handicap due to a injury that I received while working at the county jail for more than 28 years prior to that I worked five years for one construction site then another five years for a second construction site but due to my injury now I was informed that I can’t work due to my injuries which is a broken back needing to get bilateral hip replacement and problems with my knees and still have to have my neck feels during the time I was working at the jail they didn’t know take out Social Security I was informed by Social Security that I have all my quarters but that I do not have all my quarters to collect disability I’m confused on that because prior to working at the jail I worked 10 years where they did take out taxes for everything so shouldn’t that mean since they told me I had All my quarters I should also have all my quarters so I can collect disability
