What if they just compared 2 comparable performance modes.....? Porsche can do drag races all day long in sport mode, tesla can t in ludicrous mode (textualy said that it damages the battery)....but it can in range mode..... Just compare the comparable
Here's a little insight into how productions like this are made: Just because you see one single race on screen doesn't mean they only did one IRL. They probably did 50 of them, each one to get a different camera angle. Now, I understand they used some old test numbers cause those somehow were faster (not commenting on that), but you have to be high off your face if you believe that the world's biggest car magazine doesn't know how to put a Model S into it's fastest mode. You just have to believe they couldn't be bothered to do it 50 times for each race they did to get all the camera shots.

after watching a bunch of videos comparing the taycan with the model s and reading the comments, I realized that both cars have their pro and cons but tesla fanboys are the absolute worst.

They made it slower in 0 to 60, but quicker in the quarter mile for a cost, as it is 90k more. A cheaper Tesla model S plaid coming out later next year will beat the porsche in every performance metric

Zero Hour the issue is that they copied the Tesla numbers from a previous test and they didn’t use launch control on the Tesla making it slower

You do realise that these videos are done with many different shots, by many different cameras and many different angles and then edited, right? Are you sure that they didn't do it in max attack for the Tesla?
Let's say they didn't, shall we do it five times and watch the Tesla slowly die, whilst the Porsche doesn't? What's the excuse then? The Tesla is cheaper. True, but the Porsche is much higher quality. What's the excuse then? Raven? Cheetah? Roadster?
The Roadster isn't a production car, so for now it doesn't count, but even when it eventually decides to show up and Porsche beats that too, what then? Other manufacturers are already testing similar times to the Roadster.
So do we go back to the Tesla cult and it's utterly unreasonable belief that somehow, some way, Tesla can never, ever be bettered no matter what? I mean that's what you lot actually believe.

I've driven that model Tesla and tried max attack. It's great. That's the thing - proper car fans can see what Tesla has done and what it does well, however the Tesla cult cannot and will not see what others do better, or Tesla's faults.

@@DrewsTurbo the tesla model S still has a faster quarter mile record then the taycan, newer model S raven with cheetah mode can also beat the taycan turbo S in a 1/4 drag race even though the taycan has a traction advantage from its wider tires its also upped the amount of repeatable performance, and yes they did not have launch mode, these arent excuses these are legitimate reasons why the Tesla lost.
DrewsTurbo it’s not excuses. They genuinely didn’t setup the car for a drag race lol. I thought the point of a drag race is to get the most out of a car, and they sure as hell didn’t do that. The many angles, shots and cameras don’t matter if they cheated and even better, didn’t even acknowledge that it wasn’t setup for that situation.

Wow, so range mode was turned on which reduces acceleration at 1:07, the car is not even the latest Raven model but an older model and Ludicrous+ wasn't activated but just regular ludicrous? Also, was launch control even activated on the Tesla? Not sure if Top Gear was not paying attention or if this was intentional...
Also, they mention the Model S can only charge up to 150 KW and is limited to 155 mph, but the new raven models
support charge speeds of up to 200 KW now and can go to speeds of up to 163 mph.

But why is any of this so important, for a car that obviously needs so many things to line up in it's favor just to be competitive in the race vs the Taycan?

Good comparison. Though comparing a 5 year old Tesla architecture against the best Porsche can offer and being £50k plus more surprises me that there were just differences - no real benefit, and with the Tesla charging infrastructure across UK and Europe, I would save myself £50k+ and avoid range anxiety.

Mike Owen Actually they lied in the clarification article that info comes from. You can clearly see that the Tesla is in “Range Mode” which decreases power exponentially. If they did do what they said, it would have done a 2.2 second 0-60. Additionally, people have searched for the license plate of the Tesla and found that it’s not a Raven P100D, therefore it’s not the fastest Model S offered.
It is so sad that people do not believe results they do not want. So sad.

What happened to the original spec for the Taycan when first revealed? 40+ grand more for a car with 80% of the original spec what a bargain. Tesla has now 3% more power with latest software update so nice try Porsche. Will Topgear do this same comparison when the tri-motor Model S is released? Somehow I dont think so.

I did report it. I don’t care if they want to release a paid/bought hit piece for Porsche, but they need to be transparent AND UA-cam has a policy about disclosing paid content. It’s the cover up that kills, this was obviously faked and presented as gushing praise, surly someone got their pockets lined.

Not the first time Top Gear is spreading FUD lies to tarnish Tesla. One thing they forgot to mention was how long the Model S Performance has been around. Where is the Wow factor, I expected a lot more from Porsche... not impressed at all.

I watched it and I stopped it at 1:07 but it was kind a hard to tell what the screen said because it was kind of flashy because that’s just how screens look when they’re filmed with a camera unfortunately kind a hard to make a determination what mode it was in

Their range test at Autobahn is fake too. "Tesla, max speed 155mph" "155mph 83miles" That's a 2016 model, Tesla "Raven" from 2019 with Model 3 engine, more range, active suspension etc. has max speed 162mph. They tested old version of Tesla Model S Performance.
They also left Range Mode on... this reduces power draw. You can see the setting in the video.

@@rrrggg4334 The factory specs vmax does not work in reality. It always goes over because it is just a power limiter and not a speed based target system. Alex Choi hit 167mph in desert salt flats in Raven Model X.

@@yushengyang8693Yes, but the Range Mode is also clearly set to on. When on, the torque distribution between the two motors is optimized to maximize range, not performance. Also the battery isn't heated up to be optimal power distribution.

You forgot to tell people @8:55 that should you be lucky enough to find yourself in one of those ideal conditions where the Taycan is actually able to charge at 270kw, that’s just a peak. Like the peak of anything, it only represents a small area of entire object or event. In the case of the Taycan, that peak charge rate is only maintained to approximately a 25% state of charge, at which point the charger steps down. Regardless however, credit where credit is due, the Porsche does charge relatively quickly overall.

In spite of all the chatter, Brooks tested a Taycan Turbo S and got a best 0-60 of 2.4s and a 10.5s 1/4 mile. It really is faster in a straight line than the Model S, this isn't fake.
Not only that, you don't need to preheat the batteries to use the Taycan, etc...
So what? The Taycan will leave the Model S for dead on a road course, and I've yet to see a Model S on a track day. Lots of my friends have them, but they bring track cars to the track. Know what I'm saying'?

It has more to offer on the high end because it was developed with the German Autobahn thingy in mind

The thing that amazed me most was the fact that at full load the Porsche is around 80% the high speed efficiency compared to the Tesla. So if these two were doing a track day ironically the Tesla would take you further...
On the Nurburgring, after one lap, the Taycan goes in limp mode, limited at 80 km/h for almost 4 km (worst than a 2012 Tesla) : ua-cam.com/video/ON2_4b107xY/v-deo.html
And with a consumption of 138 kWh/100 km (210 kWh/100 miles) the range is only 60 km !!! Knowing that the closest charger is at 40 km…
