PROGRAM NOTES:
At the time this I wrote this piece, I was a member of the Scarsdale High School Honors Wind Ensemble. In February of 2023, our we a tour to Spain where we performed three concerts and participated in a number of tourist activities. For our eight hour flight, one of my best friends, Isaac Wood, and I decided to try composing a piece on the plane to cure our boredom. We decided to base the style on film score, so I came up with a theme melody that sounded like a soundtrack for a battle. On the flight back home, I began writing my own version of the theme as a reflection of the exciting tour we had.
The piece as a whole musically resembles the events of our Spain tour in chronological order. Each section is organized by each of the nine days we spent together. The piece’s tendency to deviate from the primary theme represents the different cities we visited as well as the new experiences we shared.
