    If you like this, some other touchstones from the 70s to look up are: Freddie Hubbard, "Red Clay" and Donald Byrd, "Black Byrd".

    • @cooldebt

      I agree with you. I only just discovered the good Butcher today but I have been listening to these talented guys for a few years now - and they are bringing every style of jazz to a younger generation by brilliantly covering VGM. A small sample of a very vast repertoire: ua-cam.com/video/0vic9IMGH1E/v-deo.html

    • @jml4000
      @jml4000 3 роки тому

      The comment "there's no good music made today" says a lot more about the people who make it than the state of the music scene. Anyone who says this is obviously not looking very hard beyond the vapid garbage that gets played on commercial radio stations that stick to the top 40 format. The internet and social media may have made it a lot harder for artists (and record companies) to make a living by selling albums, but it's also made it a lot easier for anyone with a serious interest to discover independent artists who would have otherwise gotten passed over by the major record labels and radio stations in an earlier era.

    I'm sure the interviewer is a lovely guy. But he seems to know utterly nothing about Jazz and improvisation. The music has structure, and even improvisation is a language made of pitch and rhythmic phrases that are derived from years of learning the components of that 'language'. The interviewer makes it sound like the music is 'made up' with no existing idea. Anyone trying to 'improvise' without years of musical knowledge would quickly discover that they produce repetitive, thoroughly underwhelming 'tunes', inferior to even the simplest nursery rhyme. Again, pleasant interviewer, but a little frustrating in his lack of knowledge of Jazz.

    • @grumblekin
      @grumblekin 5 років тому +8

      Improv, if done well, looks really easy. But as you said, it sure as hell ain't. I spent hours on my sax trying to come up with phrases and pieces to assemble during performances and it was never easy.

    • @snazzback
      @snazzback 5 років тому +2

      As an improvising musician playing in a collaborative band like BB, in the style of what often gets called 'jazz', I'd say the interviewer actually seems to have a pretty good grasp of what's up.

    • @LukaszFedorko
      @LukaszFedorko 4 роки тому +2

    • @firatbalkaya

      I think you got it wrong man, interviewer has the knowledge. A lot of old school jazz musicians played in this studio and they have a historical background. I think they wouldn't put a guy that lacks the knowledge if you know what I mean.

    • @fross1203
      @fross1203 Рік тому +1

      The interviewer, like many, may be a true music lover without having any musical background.

    They killed it. We need more of this kind of music again. It separates the trash from the trophies. Unlike hip hop severely lacking any quality

    • @maxlamont2090
      @maxlamont2090 Рік тому +1

      This has strong hip hop inspiration throughout - maybe try listening to the set again before being so quick to disregard. keep an open mind.
