This is easily one of the best episodes of the series. No other Batman vs. Joker episode reaches the heights of hilarity and darkness at the same time, where we are just how twisted the Joker can be. It’s pretty much a classic Batman comic come to life, and brilliant from start to finish. Glad to see you react to this one! 😄
I think you might've been exposed to some of the laughing gas for how much you were laughing during the episode 😂 I'm really glad you're enjoying watching this wonderful show, it's such a joy! This is one of my favorite episodes personally, and I'm glad you enjoyed it!!
5:55 Did you notice this detail? Both Batman's and Thomas Jackson's mouths are obscured during Batman's dialogue, making it so you can't tell who said it, setting up the reveal. Also, PLEASE react to Batman: Mask of the Phantasm after you finish season 1. It's set in this universe and style and features Kevin Conroy's best performance as Batman.
This is one of my Favorite Episodes of BTAS. This episode perfectly exemplified everything I love about the Joker. He should be Silly, yet Scary, Wacky, yet Disturbing. To me that is what Joker is. Also two bits that always make me laugh every time is the: “you can be my very own little Mermaid *puts fish head on Harley*” and the “Joker Burgers, talk about a happy meal” 😂
"This is hilarious, but also so scary". That's what make The Joker so great! He's a murderous psychopath that you can't help but laugh at. This episode in particular is a favorite of mine since it's based on one of my favorite Batman/Joker comics of the same name.
This is one of my favorites. Perhaps it's because of the slightly darker nature of this story, but I remember it actually premiered in the evening, during primetime as opposed to Fox's afterschool animation block. It's also based on a classic issue of Detective Comics from 1978. I recently acquired a copy of that issue. It's fantastic.
@Xehanort10 It was almost a running joke throughout the entire animated universe how the Joker would get supposedly killed, situations there was no way he could have survived, only for him to resurface with no explanation how he made it. Only time it was for realsies was the Batman Beyond movie, where they actually had to show how it happened, and even in that movie, the majority of it even the characters who witnessed it happening were like "how the fuck did this bastard survive"?
This is interesting. It looks like this episode is an adaptaion and mixture of three different stories, which is neat: The Laughing Fish, Joker's Five Way Revenge and Batman no.1 (Joker's first appearence). Which is really neat.
One of my favorite bits about this episode is that it also partially adapts the Joker's first appearance where he announced the exact times certain people would die and then through various trickery managed to kill only them without ever entering the room.
This episode is one of the few that was an adaptation of a story from the comics. Detective Comics #475 (Feb 1978). The plot is exactly the same but there are changes like the inclusion of Harley and Bullock who aren't in the story. Harley didn't exist yet as a character since she was created for this show.
Sharks are the type of species that can thrive in almost any environment. The only differing factor is the size of the shark and its temperament. Whale sharks do surprisingly well in captivity while great whites do not. As for how deep it is, don't be fooled. Sharks are notorious for swimming in as little as 2 feet of water so you are not safe in the shallows. I know this as I do a lot of fishing in the florida keys and there are massive stretches of water that at low tide is shockingly low and yet you will encounter shark activity from small pups to full size sharks. Sharks also will chase a prey as close to the water as it can. I once watched a shark chase a flounder almost on to the shore then flee while a lucky passerby scooped up the fish for an easy meal. Some species even prefer the shallows as its a preferred natural habitat. The only time I would think a tank is too small is if it can barely move around at all. Then its more like a holding tank than a shark tank. Holding tanks generally are used to transport sharks to larger tanks or for observation prior or post surgery.
This episode is another direct adaptation of a comic book. As with the Off Balance episode, they had to censor the deaths for the cartoon. In the comic books there is no cure for Joker's toxin.
This episode falls right around the middle of the series' original run - if memory serves me correctly, the BTAS episodes on HBO Max are listed out of order.
goated episode. the line “his insane schemes only make sense to him alone” perfectly describes this episode. the idea of the joker fish and it being copyrighted is so incredibly ludicrous and batman knows it and the audience knows it but it works bc that is literally who the joker is. like come on who else would think of that? only the joker would LMAO. so imo it’s definitely one of the best episodes of the series and probably my favorite joker episode of the show.
The Joker just asks these guys to do something he knows they can't do and then pretends to be the victim of some kind of injustice just so he can hurt them. The idea from the get-go is to hurt them. The rest is just a fancy gimmick to confuse investigators.
3:23 Some people just really, really hate fish. They’re crazy imo but it’s pretty common. Of course I like anchovies on my pizza so it could be I’m the weirdo. In fact I actually wouldn’t mind trying those smiley fish lol
This was the first BTAS episode my late fiance and I saw together (we saw it as kids and decided to rewatch it as college students) and we loved it so much that we decided to go as Joker and Harley for a Halloween party. He even presented me with a fish head mask so I could be "his very own little mermaid". I looked at him and said "you're really sick, you know that, baby?"
I really like Bullock this episode. It’s a great show of how he’s smart and good at his job but also rough and impulsive 10:02 and thank you for this line
This episode is inspired by 'two-stage' poisons, which are supposed to kill only when the second 'thing' arrives. Mostly it's simple coercion (as the first element of course, cannot be detected and so cannot be countered), but military 'war' gases may be stored as two components, and 'spun' together when the shell or rocket is fired, creating the poison gas. Another thing: the Joker's face, and smile of his victims is the once much-feared 'risus sardonicus', the rigid-muscle spasms effect of the botulinus microbe, which in infected wounds, killed most people who caught it, and was sometimes mistake for 'rigor mortis' leading to legendary examples of people being buried still alive and conscious. It was a major killer until good anti-biotics became widespread after WWII, and the effectiveness of which is reducing, with few newly-effective replacements being found. When you hear of someone who died of 'sepsis', it's because they died of 'blood-poisoning', organ failure, or worse after an untreatable infection.
How it implies that Joker took a cat from Catwoman to hurt her as well, and how her cat Isis never appears again. This episode has the highest body-count of all of them, disguised by 'he'll be all right once I get the anti-toxin in him'.
Hello Meg I'm a huge fan of your reactions especially to anything Batman with that being said I was wondering could you do me a Huge favor? Is there anyway possible that you can react to Batman 1966 classic TV show? It would mean the world to me but if you can't I'll understand and continue to watch and support you.
God I LOVE this episode, easily one of the best of the show. The Joker fish jingle has been in my mind for three decades. Also nothing wrong with laughing with Joker, the writing for him is just too good.
1:30 is the perfect line discribing anything that the Jokers schemes. "Jokers plans makes sense to him and him alone."

And Bruce Timm directed this and it's also one of his favourite 3 episodes of the animated series
I agree it’s the best joker episode for sure. My personal favorite of the whole show.
Yes I totally agree. This is for sure my favorite episode with the Joker
NEVER apologize for laughing at Mark Hamill's Joker's antics!
I think you might've been exposed to some of the laughing gas for how much you were laughing during the episode 😂

Yeah I LOVED that this premiered in primetime. As a longtime fan, it gave legitimacy to how cool comics could be.
Steven Englehart and Marshall Rogers created a great story in those issues.
You carying for this shark is the one of the most sweetest and hilarous thing i've ever see X)
I love the Joker's trench coat and hat look
I’m sorry, but that happy meal joke is the best one yet. Along side with the fish slap 😂
I legit thought the Joka was dead at the end of this episode when I was little, like that shark totally ate him, in a deliciously ironic twist

And The shark second guess itself and spits the joker out, until next several episodes because the joker tasted funny
This is interesting. It looks like this episode is an adaptaion and mixture of three different stories, which is neat: The Laughing Fish, Joker's Five Way Revenge and Batman no.1 (Joker's first appearence). Which is really neat.
she's gotta see Harley's Day Out....one of her most defining episodes. The sheer glee.
One of my favorite bits about this episode is that it also partially adapts the Joker's first appearance where he announced the exact times certain people would die and then through various trickery managed to kill only them without ever entering the room.
The toxins in the Joker's body that give him white flesh and green hair probably disgusted the shark. Not even worth one bite.
1:50 Enchantee 😂
7:51 fact: that cool shot was later used in both the new Batman adventures and Batman mystery of the batwoman.
They're finny and funny and oh so delish!
Every day closer to Robin's Reckoning

I felt so bad for Francis. He was so innocent.
There's a reference to this episode in the Batgirl DLC in Arkham Knight
I don´t think I ever understood when they mentioned "anti-toxin" I actually assumed all this people Joker gets with his gas dies.
They're Finny and Funny and Also Delish...
The Joyful and Jolly Joker Fish...
I love this song.....

Fun fact. During scenes that take place in the Batcave there is never any music being played. Only the sounds of the bats and dialog.
Computer noises, keystrokes, wind blowing, sometimes a Batmobile or Batboat, doors, etc. Yes, no music.
10:17 oh no! Jason Todd flashback
And here it is, Harley Quinn's very debut. Her first appearance in media ever.
"Meanwhile, back at the WRENCH!" needs to be used more in daily life
The Joker just asks these guys to do something he knows they can't do and then pretends to be the victim of some kind of injustice just so he can hurt them. The idea from the get-go is to hurt them. The rest is just a fancy gimmick to confuse investigators.

the opening of this episode stuck with 7, 8 year old me to this day.
Fun fact: this was Harley Quinn's first ever appearance and the rest is history.
I really want to see her reaction to the episode The man who killed the batman
My favourite BTAS episode; maybe it's the soundtrack, maybe it's Joker's iconic lines, I don't know!
I really like Bullock this episode. It’s a great show of how he’s smart and good at his job but also rough and impulsive
10:02 and thank you for this line

One of the most iconic Joker episodes ever, and probably my personal favorite
6:14 sums up jokers whole character to be honest.
Imagine all this, because Joker's KFC gravy was cold, or there was gristle in the meat
Jokers Irish!!! Black and Tans intensifies.
Wow, when I heard the title, I was thinking of episode 21 "Mad Love" of "The New Batman Adventures", but this was great too!
Meg got hit with laughing gas, too
What a lot of people don't know about the Joker is that sometimes he just likes to fuck around with weird ass plans just to mess with Batman's head.
Great reaction 🔥💯
Next movie you need to watch is Batman Mask of the Phantasm you'll love it give It a watch 🙂
One of my favorite Joker episodes 👏🏾
Haa the classic the laughing fish from the detective comic nr 475 Year 1978
Waking up to a meg video 😊
If you look closely, you can see Batman dressed up as a cop
OMG I love that jumper!
Girl, did Joker gas hit you through your screen?? 😂
You're nuts, just like the Joker!
Love this episode! :)
Edit: Love your reactions!! The next one, Harley and Ivy, is one of my favorite episodes of the show!
Where'd you get that sweater? 👽
It’s always a pleasure to watch Batman with you 🍫🍫
Robins Reckoning next?
The scene with the cat….I could never forget it…
How it implies that Joker took a cat from Catwoman to hurt her as well, and how her cat Isis never appears again.
This episode has the highest body-count of all of them, disguised by 'he'll be all right once I get the anti-toxin in him'.
I think it was nice that Bullock let Harley mourn Joker before taking her in.
Jokers toxine. Could be deadly.
My favorite joker episode!
It's weird that with all the crap the Joker puts Harley through, the thing she calls him out on is putting her in a fish costume.
If you want more animation-as-art, the top of that list is Samurai Jack. It is consistently stunning.
Please do Dark Knight Returns Part 1 & 2
Your really sick ya know dat boss!
The Expanse please 🙏
Hello Meg I'm a huge fan of your reactions especially to anything Batman with that being said I was wondering could you do me a Huge favor? Is there anyway possible that you can react to Batman 1966 classic TV show? It would mean the world to me but if you can't I'll understand and continue to watch and support you.
You remind me of Nazz from The Eds.
Love this one but VERY excited for you to watch Harley and Ivy!
God I LOVE this episode, easily one of the best of the show.
The Joker fish jingle has been in my mind for three decades. Also nothing wrong with laughing with Joker, the writing for him is just too good.
