Woo hoo. I don't know how many times I've watched this performance but never get bored. She came to my country many times Vietnam where the sound system really poor at the time remembered back then she was about to sing we fans really worried but she nailed it, when she sang Oh Holy Night she kneeled down on the stage that was beautiful.

We all wonder if So Hyang is human or from another planet. Current odds are that she’s from another planet, with an outside chance she’s actually an angel come down from Heaven. 😇 We have never heard anyone sing like her, or be able to hold an audience in the palm of her hand until she lets them go. Her voice is, as one person described it, like liquid gold. Perfection in clarity and pitch, and she doesn’t fade in the upper octaves, which is startling when you hear her hit those 5th and 6th octave notes with such _POWER_ it actually gives everyone goose bumps-and makes us bald guys’ hair stand on end! As she says, her voice “is from God.” She does all the musical arrangements herself (with the input of her musical assistants), teaches vocal technique at a South Korean university and speaks four languages. Korean, English, French and Vietnamese.
Let me catch my breath. OK.
She is a cancer survivor from uterine cancer at the age of 20, just after getting married, and states very plainly that God saved her life due to the prayers of her church. But this left her without the ability to have children so she decided to dedicate her life to being a Contemporary Christian Gospel singer and has refused recording contracts from the biggest corporations in the world. She only wants to sing for charities, churches and while doing missionary work, to strengthen those suffering through difficult times. David Foster, Josh Groban, Michael Bolton and others have all travelled to Asia to work with her.
She contracted hepatitis B from a blood transfusion during her cancer surgery and it clings to her to this day. Because of this she is prone to catching pneumonia but has sang perfectly while suffering from it in her live performance of “You Raise Me Up” before Shane Filan of Westlife on South Korean TV: ua-cam.com/video/te_L9ofhUt8/v-deo.html She has asked those who love her singing to pray that God keep pneumonia away from her, she has suffered from it on so many occasions. Imagine how she must feel with this coronavirus floating around everywhere!
She just turned 43 on April 5, 2021, though in Korean culture she would be 44 because you are deemed to be one year old when you are born. She was about 37 when she sang this version of “Arirang Alone”, their unofficial national anthem based on a 600 year old folk song expressing their desire to reunify north and south: vimeo.com/308253527
After being sick with pneumonia eight times from 2016 through to 2020, and considering giving up singing altogether, she chastised herself and entered a televised singing contest called “King of the Masked Singers” in 2017 and won six consecutive times, which has catapulted her into international fame from the performances being posted on UA-cam.
Whitney Houston’s former manager saw her on UA-cam and showed her to Oprah Winfrey, who brought her to David Foster’s attention. Foster then contacted So Hyang and went to Japan in order to perform eight concerts together at Tokyo’s famous Blue Note Club in late-2018.

She could be an international Super Star if she wanted to be but has decided that it would ruin her spiritually, quoting Proverbs 14:12 and 16:25 which both say “There is a way that seems right to a man, But its end is the way of death.”
In a South Korean television interview So Hyang conceded that she struggled with her desire for fame for a number of years, going into the basement in her home numerous times and closing the door so she could complain vehemently to God that He was holding her back from becoming famous due to her health problems and other unforeseeable events. Then she later saw a Korean TV drama where the talented daughter of a very successful businessman was positive she would take over when her father retired. But he left the management of the company to a woman she hated, so she had a fit and lay kicking and screaming on the floor. So as a consequence she does not pursue fame or fortune and actually has no social media presence whatsoever.
What can one say about such a person? She is a literal Wonder Woman! And we need about a billion more just like her!

“Debuting in [the] US was my utmost goal for the past 20 years. But when I got a call from the US agency, I politely rejected, as I realized that what I wanted most was not becoming famous,” she said.
“I think singers are very susceptible to arrogance, especially when they hear the screaming from crowds on stage. It can make you feel like as if you’ve become God.”
“And I’m perfectly okay with sharing my music via UA-cam, which can reach tens of millions of people all over the world without making me feel stuck up. Maybe that’s why I was born in this era.”
So Hyang is just the most amazing singer, Christian and human being. She is beautiful both inside and out, and so humble, open and genuine, with a stage charisma, facial expressions and smile that is off the charts.
In Korean dictionaries 소 향 (So Hyang) has several meanings.
• First is a type of Korean traditional music.
• Second is to burn incense on a burner.
• Third is to go toward.
But these meanings are rarely used today and hers is a quite uncommon name. 소 향 is also the name of a heroine in a Korean traditional novel. So in retrospect her name was well chosen, and you can take your pick!

Well, one more gush. In an interview with a Turkish music producer So Hyang revealed that she can hit Eb7 and D7 in practise. However, she never goes above the 6th octave in performances. Oh, I just remembered, she is also a published novelist and theological treatist, and a very good stage actress, which she proved by playing Julie Andrews’ part in the South Korean production of “The Sound of Music.” Moreover, she sang the “Moana” part in the Korean version of the Disney film, does the musical vocals for many South Korean television dramas, and is a talented artist and cartoonist.
She can also play the piano and guitar. Is there anything this genius level woman can’t do?
Though she is less than 5' 4" and only 100 pounds, So Hyang simply transcends the thresholds of music and takes you there with her. She becomes the song when she sings it. An experience like no other. I don’t know what else to say. I’ve spent _entire days_ listening to her, and shed more than a few tears of joy along the way.
I really must also compliment the choir, orchestra and audio/video production people So Hyang works with. They are all top notch from what I can see and hear. The Korean people are easily as talented as anyone else.

I gotta feelin that tonight gonna be So Hyang's night😆(after u told me its an korean singer I knew it! its gotta be no other than her) Oh holy night!😍finally! both of you had entered her heavenly world🌈 exactly she has deep faith as a christian💒🙏🏻devouted despite a small portion of 8% catholism community in their country and more than 50% of south korea's population being non believer no religion or atheist. Lean on Me, Mona Lisa, I have nothing(blue and black dress version), Oh holy night(purple black dress), Where are you, Misty from begin again concert as well as I will always love you from the same. She just has a ton. Also, not sure about anyone else, but it's hard to handle the audio in one ear thing with headphones. The one from the right side was easier but it was also trailing into the left some and didn't have as much room echo. The end with both into both ears was great.

SoHyang does all of her own arrangements. Probably controls how the stage lighting and background will be as well. I have seen her discuss with the backing vocalists and orchestra during practices how she wants them to come on. She is a perfectionist.

I've witnessed lots of singers but very few true artists and Chenyu is 1 of them, he is more than just a singer but true artist, no 1 can make me feel things like he does!
He won the 'Most Influential Musician' of the year award in China! Now people calls him 'Master of Songs' and 'artistically overdeveloped' to the point where he can be intimidating, haunting and overwhelming to others including other talents.
He has a wide dynamic range, he can:
-sing/write/compose music and songs for different styles or genres (you will find out more if you check some of his works out)
-create alternative type songs and music that are unique and special
-create musical theater like dramatic performances
-play instruments
-rewrite/recompose/re-arrange/re-create songs or music from 1 style or genre into a different style or genre in just LESS than 24 hours and performs right after
-combine different styles and genres into just 1 song
Sometimes he didn't eat for 2 days so he can work on his song and sing clean. he literally puts his body on the line for his work.
He holds his MARs concert annually, his concert tickets (90,000) at the Birds Nest in Beijing in 2018 in September sold out in 1minute.56seconds, 120,000 people were online at the same time hunting his tickets, the system nearly crashed. So Chenyu had an emergency conference call with his people involved to add a second night concert. Chenyu felt bad so many fans couldn't get tickets, that happened before aswell! Thats how good he is! 1st night ticket sold out in 1 minute 56 seconds, 2nd nights sold out in 2 minutes 58 seconds, total 180,000 sold out within 5 minutes. For his 2019 MARs concert at least 50,000+ seats were on sale, 656,000 people is racing and hunting for his concert tickets at the same timing and the tickets officially sold out in 3 SECONDS. It had total 810,000 register after the tickets sold out. UNREAL! He also sold out the 2nd night in 2 SECONDS, so he sold out a total of 100,000+ tickets in 5 seconds! IMPOSSIBLE! He also sold out the 3rd night in just 7 SECONDS! MIND-BOGGLING
He is a multi-persona, multi-style, multi-talent and multi-skilled artist (multi-dimensional artist), he can mix and blend different styles of tone or music into 1 song and performance and make it sound amazing. His voice is like water, he can adapt it to sync well with any tune.

The truth is that throughout Asia there are a plethora of exceptional singers, but the Western media promotes very little and only those who are "on the right side of the barricade", so in no case the Chinese or those in the former Soviet republics! Obviously because their successes in art could lead to the conclusion that there is also the possibility of fulfilling a dream, not only in the USA! It is true that on the other side there is censorship, but obviously much less because many there want a positive evolution starting with the standard of living, continuing with free movement, art, culture and sports!

She is a lyrical soprano with very high tessitura so low notes are not her forte but she has plenty of songs where she shows very good low tones like Misty and It's only my world. Actually she is better than most lyrical sopranos.

We don't like hate comments here. Whether someone likes her color of voice , it's a personal choice. But her vocal technique is 100% great.
@@Juliett_Novak David Foster invited Sohyang to his Tokyo concert in 2018 after he watched Sohyang's 'I Have Nothing' performance. Since David highly appreciated her rendition, he requested Sohyang to take part in his own concert. She sang over 5 songs on the stage including I Have Nothing & Bridge Over Troubled Water. Thus, the hater's comment that David Foster doesn't want to work with her is completely ridiculous.
