I can tell ya why people like dark sonic. It was really really cool growing up watching the show, sonic being the cool snarky good guy and all. But in that episode, he was practically backed in a corner with his friends kidnapped and hurt, he kind of lost his mind, shredded the robots that were super pissed into ribbons, and did all with that sick nasty dark aura and menacing eyes. Basically, we all love seeing the good guy go ballistic and lose his mind and just put the absolute hurt on the bad guys, then tie that in with a cocky attitude? Peak. That's why we all love dark sonic, the idea of how unhinged and brutal he could be. Another example, in Dragon Ball Z when Gohan just goes "beat you? No I want to Kill you" things like that just go hard when coming from a hero.
