Did a great job on it getting it running yeah it always seems like when you're wanting to make a surprise that us something that's when sometimes things backfire but yeah you probably just flooded it out but you have good taste the Square bodies are on fire right now I've been restored at 82 Chevy myself that right there looks pretty straight it'll make a nice old truck there's numerous Parts out there for the the numerous sites that you can get aftermarket parts for them all that door needs is a patch panel on it to be welded on but yeah it always makes me happy Lucia square body running again in fact anything old and classic can be given new life again Deshawn just as good as a new vehicle with a little TLC appreciate the video hoping you and your family are in great health
It’s been commented that fluids be checked with both axles and transfer case and a vacuum line to a vacuum modulator , if this transmission has one . Those are good items to check . The fact that transmission fluid level isn’t consistent could possibly be that a seal between the transmission and transfer case is,worn allowing transmission fluid to run out of the transmission to the transfer case . So , the transmission will be low and the transfer case be over full . Hate to wish that on you but if that’s the case , the transfer case will have to be dropped and the transmission rear seal be replaced on the transmission adapter to transfer case .
Sounds like the old carb could be pressed in to service again. Loved watch your Dad assessing the repairs and recalling details of the "Farm Truck" like he parked it there yesterday. Your a good son Wes. It did look quite appropriate broke down by the side of the road though. 🤣🤣🤣🤣
If this transmission has a vacuum modulator , that should absolutely be looked at . If the modulator loses vacuum or just goes bad , there won’t be any shifting , as you’ve stated . Don’t remember what year truck this is or if it’s even got an electronic computer controlled or module overdrive transmission or not but good to look if it’s got a vacuum modulator .
@@gmoney9588 i said same thing and just drop pan replace fluid and get screen type filter not that paper junk and replace modulator and make sure vacuum line is hooked up........assuming its a th400 since its 8 lug probably
With the costs and reliability of new trucks not worth the money or prohibitive . I foresee a new industry of mechanics buying 80s and 90s pickups and refurbing them . I cannot justify the cost of a new F-350 approaching 6 figures. Ford, GM and Dodge have lost loyal customers, just use the KISS method for trucks, we don't need Formula One technology on the farm, work site.
I know it wasn’t the best surprise but I’m sure he was surprised just the same. Looking forward to seeing you both working on it!!
Good job ... hopefully that truck doesn't go from sitting beside one barn to sitting beside a different one 🤘🤘🤘🇺🇲🇺🇲🇺🇲
I have an old F-250 with 9.5s and I have had no luck finding any tires. Good job Wes!!
You are a good son.
Favorite pickup I ever had was a 1978 Chevy 2500. It was a work horse. Good luck 👍

Really good! Excellent start. Please keep filming your progress on this ! What a bummer the truck quit before you got to your dad’s house.
Put sealant around the plugs when you put it in no leaks
did you watch the video?
hope u made u r dad happy!, keep the clips coming
Hope you get that old girl figured out decent old chevy

Looked natural broke down!
You have to leave those original wheels on it. They match that truck perfectly.
Find me some 16.5s
Leah!
Just plain love it !
Super video, good job God Bless
Change filter an fluid in trans 👍
Ultra red silicone is better with high heat coolant on water pumps freeze plugs
AND be sure your oil has plenty of ZINC in it. Those old Motors are flat tappet cams.
How about the air filter., Oil change, brake fluid , p/s fluid rear axle oil , etc etc...?
Slow down pal
Could be the vacuum line on the transmission modulator had the same thing happen to me

NEVER BUY PAPER FILTER FOR TH400 AND DOUBLE SEAL THE PICK UP TUBE CASE SIDE
@@gmoney9588 I have the same truck, mine is a 86 with a th400 trans try vacuum line was dry rotted off of it
Chevrolet = Rusty mofo
Anybody else hearing CW McCall's song about buying a used pickup?
I would just pull the engine out , re gasket it and clean it up and put it back in. #2 brown permatex on freeze plugs.
make sure if its th400 it has vacuum to modulator if so replace modulator too. im assuming th350 or probably th400 since its 8 lug like mine
Dad says it’s a 700r4
vacume not hooked up on trans
does the gas tank need to be vented?
Your dad might have been surprised...but he didn't look too thrilled. Maybe he parked it because he was done with it.
Use the right stuff it's better
When you gonna finish the peterbilt.
This winter
At least your in a shed and not working on it in the rain
👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

Oil those hood hinges before the hood folds in half. ANOTHER weak point in the rusty old square bodies. I've had 2. NOT a fan....
Your dad probably parked it because the transmission is probably going bad
👍👍
