This whole part starting with a heist going incredibly wrong is about to be one of the strongest part starts ever

The game does tend to reference attacks used within the show, so if that would happen, it probably wouldn't be until we've gotten to see a good portion of what Jodio does/can do. In other words probably a good while.

This is the story of Jodio somehow getting hit by the Milagro Man through a strange series of coincidences.
Araki hit a jackpot with this one. Most of the JoJo fanbase right now are probably 15-18 year olds. Therefore Jodio being around the age of the current fanbase would make them relate more to him. Can't wait for more.

JOJOLands started off with a bang, Araki's accuracy is flawless down to Jodio eating Loco Moco and calling the states The Mainland. The Honolulu PD logo is even spot-on. Lovely to see these details front and center in just the first Chapter, Araki drawing my home is a dream come true.
Small note: while you mentioned that he is the only main jojo who doesnt have a humanoid stand, keep in mind Johnny for a large part of steel ball run, only had Tusk act 1-3 that was far from a stand capable of a stand rush. Until act 4 that is.

November Rain could actually be more versatile than it is initially indicated, BUT it depends on how the water is produced by the Stand. IF Jodio is able to gather the water into one place or even make streams of it, THEn the heaviness of it becomes much more useful. I am still of the opinion that it is an evolving stand that will evolve through various songs/bands with RAIN in their name until its final form of Purple Rain to complete the Prince theme of Giorno, with its power evolving appropriately.
I hope that's the case, araki obviously likes Prince so to not reference his best song would be a little disappointing imo
The reason it was pointed out that Jodio never saw Dragona using injections is almost definitely because Dragona uses their stand to rearrange their body
I’m hoping November Rain’s full ability will be that he can completely control the water around him including rain droplets produced by his stand.
Would be cool to see an Ora rush performed with rain droplets formed into a pair of arms
it would be interesting thematically, turning the natural phenomena around him into his weapon, just like a mechanism
They’ve kind of already done two water stands if I can remember. The first is Geb and then aqua necklace
Or maybe Jodio coats his hands in the heavy rain droplets and delivers a rush himself, since they don’t seem to affect him.

My theory is that the mechanism Jodio is referring to is interpersonal relationships as well as networking and building yourself a good image among the people around you. He already did so to gain the trust of the organized crime in the island where he lives, as well as to protect his mother and give her a good life. As such, I think his goal is to become the most influential person in the society around him, as a sort of nod to Giorno's dream of becoming a mafia boss
That makes a lot of sense considering a lot of people who are rich or successful are so because of networking to some degree

Jodio wanting to create this own mechanism where he will win against even future enemies, sounds alot like what diovolo did.
We can actually nail down the timeframe a little more, the mask mandate was lifted in Hawaii in March 2022, which means JOJOLands takes place sometime from March 2022 to now

Oh my god the reading of this chapter was insane lmao. the police officer abusing drogona, covid, dragona being trans. jodio being a criminal. jodio whole monologe felt like a vilain monologue it was hilarous to me. he acted like he know something about the world when he is just 15 lmao.what a strong start and I love the setting.
OMG the part about him touching the truck beforehand is such a nice catch! Being able to transfer an object's properties to rain drops would be such an interesting ability.
It also would be in line with the trend of having an initial ability that changes when the story develops that has happened since even part 3 with Kakyoin’s usage of Hierophant Green and the two uses of Star Finger.
I think Joshu being the Japanese tourist could be interesting, it would give him a chance to show off his stand again and to show us how the Tooru incident changed him

You bastard. I'm writing a Jojo fanfic taking place in the "Irene" universe with a new cast. I spend FOREVER rewatching the "how Araki comes up with characters" video, look up how many songs, go through 6 drafts and I finally feel comfortable designing and coming up with Stand ideas... and you pose yet ANOTHER way to look at how Araki comes up with Stands that uproots everything I thought I understood.
Adding on to what you think November Rain will do, if it is able to take properties from other objects, I hope it’s worded as it taking “mechanisms” from something, and that as it evolves and Jodio grows that it’ll be able take more abstract mechanisms.
I'm surprised you didn't bring up Ebony Devil just hanging out with Tusk and D4C and stands way more important than it

Alright. Hear me out. Jodio's father is Emporio, and November Rain is Weather Report reborn- and it's going to probably evolve to resemble the strongest stand in the series as Jodio develops.
The whole thing about the mechanism bringing fortune reminds me of the power of the holy corpse from part 7 and that along with Giorno and by extension Jodio being a christ allegory makes me curious if the corpse will be involved somehow.
To be fair to November Rain, Soft and Wet only showed a very small amount of its ability in the 1st chapter. I assume the ability will be a lot more complicated and we'll probably have to wait for the first stand fight to see it more clearly (probably in the 1st heist).
I think Paco's stand has some HUGE potential. He could cover himself in tough objects and make an outer shell with them as defense. He could cover himself in sharp objects and make it difficult for anyone to attack him. He could probably use the ability to grab onto walls and climb on vertical surfaces. I don't think this should be labeled as one of the worst stands.
I really appreciate you acknowledging the complicated situation behind the fan translation and Dragona's identity, I'd really like to believe that they're our first major trans woman character but I'd be fine with whatever Araki decides to do with them.

I think that since Jojolion was alternate universe part 4, we now have alternate universe part 6 and Jodio is Weather Report with Dragona being Anasui (similar stands)

Y’know, looking back in hindsight, the Stand Introduction page is signed “A mangaka”, which is a bit ambiguous. Rather than something by Araki, is this perhaps meant to be something written in-universe by Rohan?
What if the stand page at the beginning is actually a hint about the types of stands that we will see in JoJoLands
Also, I was thinking that his ability was something like “remove the friction of falling objects” but your idea sounds so much better

As for Jodio he reminds me of Johnny before getting shot which makes me feel like he will be brutally humbled in this story and we may get his own "crippling" of some kind.

small theory about November Rain. if that tip IS where the rain is coming from, in all likely hood, Jodio could very well have the tip spin at incredible speeds to fling the rain out or even to create a pressure washer.

Native Hawaii actually has a third gender called māhu (my phone doesn't have the correct u), which is basically just, falls somewhere in between. There's literally a description from 17' hundreds that's basically "I met a man, who looked like a woman".
But, I'll let actual Hawaiians explain this better. It's a new concept to me and seems to revolve around religion or a similar role to a christian priest.

What? The Hustle is NOT the worst Stand in the series. I think it's really creative, useful, and has a lot of room to grow. I hope that Integrated Stands are making a comeback after being so prevalent in Steel Ball Run

A lot of the themes of jojo apply heavily to story structure. Fate, balance (blessings/calamity), flow, and mechanisms reflect araki's understanding of how he and other mangakas write their stories.
Awesome review! Its great to be reading a Jojos parts as it comes out from the beginning. A couple things: I agree that this first mission will go south, I don't think this is the whole plot of this part. This is similar to a lot of beginning arcs but mainly find Polpo's treasure.
Also, the recent jojos have been very nuanced characters, not as straightforward with their sense of justice like the first 6 parts. Its way too early to tell but I feel Jodio might be a protag the audience ends up rooting against, if that makes sense. Like he seems absolute about getting rich no matter what, I just hope he doesn't make any crazy decisions like betray his group or something
i think a better way to put it would be that he'll be the "protagonist" but might end up slightly villainous. i doubt fans will genuinely start hoping for his downfall, since that's extremely unlikely to happen
Great vid and analysis on November Rain's ability! I didn't notice the hand touch on the truck and I'm excited to see how versatile his stand becomes. One side note - the "Qi" in Meryl May Qi should be pronounced something like "chee", rather than "cue". In both the Japanese transliteration and how it should sound in Mandarin, as I believe she's supposed to be of Chinese descent.

ive not seen anyone talk about how the gem could be a parallel to the stone of aja, although the aja was in part 2 and this is a au of 5 there was tw in part 7 which is mostly a au of 1 with tw obviously being 3 so i think it could be cool to see a relation with rock humans and this gem just how there was one with vampires and the stone of aja

Something I really like about November Rains design is the seeing inclusion of palm leafs on its shoulders and just how a gry it looks all the time. I think this is one of the angriest looking stand ever, which makes it really expressive despite not having a mouth.
I think Dragona's gender is one of those things he wanted to do early on but was blocked by editorial. His answer when asked about Annasui's gender was really telling this was something he wanted to do for a while. We'll see what happens, but I really hope Dragona isn't just an extremely dedicated cross-dressing man because that leans into very messy stereotype territory.

This first chapter reminds me of a Guy Ritchie movie, being thrown right into the midst of things while the main character explains how everything works and who everyone is, ending with a tease for a big heist
I bet the diamond has something to do with alternate dimension and how the corpse parts were money or jewels in alt dimensions
One thing I noted is that Jodio’s philosophy of mechanism is similar to the philosophy of Musashi of ‘the way’ “Once you know the way, you see it in everything” or something like that
Funny story regarding the date of Jojolands. I was considering what Dua Lipa song to add to my Jojo playlist, since she's had a bunch of hits in the US in the last few years. So I reasoned that it would have to be a Dua Lipa song on the radio after the quarantine had lifted, mask mandates were over in Hawaii, and while Jodio was going to school. So I looked it up, and Hawaii ended mask mandates at the end of March 2022. So the way I see it, Jodio and Dragona are listening to Levitating in the beginning of April 2022. Really happy to see a character in jojo that is essentially trans. I feel like it's a logical progression to all of the references to queer media throughout the series, and it's always good to have representation. I look forward to seeing this character developed and built upon! Also I really dig Dragona's design

At first I thought mechanisms had to be man made, but now I realize Araki places a heavy emphasis on its natural ocurrences, which is really interesting considering Jodio's objective. I used to think he wanted to build a mechanism but now I understand he is looking for one.
I hadn't thought about the Paco/Rock human comparison Funnily enough, his stand reminded me a lot of the pillar men. I could see its true ability being full muscle control, allowing him to pull some stunts like Gyro did with the spin, strength enhancement and maybe some crazy things like shooting bullets from his body.
I would love it if the japanese man was Joshu. It would be a great chance to see how he developed after JJL events and to see NKC one last time.

This heist plot point reminds me of cyberpunk 2077 were in the start of the game you (Aka: V) are planning a heist to rob an artifact (the biochip) but it all go’s horribly wrong an you lose your only friend and now you are slowly dying. With Jodio we can have him lose someone he is close with like his brother and have the diamond be a reminder of how much constructing this ultimate mechanism cost him

I am not loving November Rain right now, but this is only Chapter 1. I did not particularly enjoy Soft & Wet in the beginning either, and my mind was thoroughly change by the middle of the series. Loving this new JoJo!!
