He didn't "return" by choice to disguise himself as a weak student. A powerful being reverse time when MC Master died in his arms. When he return back to the past and saw his Master alive he thought everything was just a dream. Still retaining the memory of what happen during the war but he didn't think anything of it. Season 1 didn't explain why he disguise himself as a weak person but his Master and lil disciple sister knew his real strength. So yea the title is a little misleading other than that it's a really good novel and anime. I would rate season one 9/10.

@@haoginhangshing9618 I don't know the cultivation system for this series since I didn't read the novel. Sometimes a "God" or "Immortal" is just part of the cultivation ranking and it doesn't necessary mean "The God". In season 1 he completed the lightning tribulation and become an "Immortal". So to answer ur question... before time was reverse he's definitely stronger than the "Immortal ranking" whatever that may be.
