I am aware that this symphony is often considered to fall away, in some way, between the 3rd and the 5th Symphony of Van Beethoven, but that idea or impression does not take the true beauty of this masterpiece. Greatly enjoyed this... Clearly Kleiber had a vision for this piece. BUT it is worth comparing this performance with his OTHER Beethoven 4th, also recorded live w Concertegebouw Amsterdam. That performance was also fine, but quite different (and sluggish in comparison to this).

Él admiró a Karajan, que fue amigo personal de su padre Erich. Se podía ver a Carlos en los ensayos de Karajan siempre que podía. Y durante años, cuando Carlos acudía muy frecuentemente a Salzburgo, lo primero que hacía a llegar y lo último, era visitar la tumba de Karajan. Por tanto, Xep, ni anti ni pro. Eran amigos, se admiraban, se tenían aprecio... No grabó todas las sinfonías porque escogió su repertorio de forma escrupulosa. Solo dirigía lo que le gustaba. Dirigió menos de 100 conciertos en toda su vida. En relación a Beethoven dirigió la 4, la 5 y la 7, que yo sepa.
Great performance - interesting to compare with the Concertgebouw performance at ua-cam.com/video/dCMYxJIji1g/v-deo.html. However, here, from 8.17 to c.8.29, we are definitely not seeing what we are hearing, owing, presumably to some editing glitch (e.g., as well as Kleiber, see and hear the timpanist!)

この日の朝、新聞のテレビ番組表で放送を知り、急いで音声多重のTEAC製のVHSビデオデッキを買って間に合ったのを思い出しました。今観てもうっとりする程美しく颯爽とした指揮は、それ自体が芸術です。この時、振り向きざまに日本語で「こうもり」と言ったのが忘れられません。勿論テープもビデオデッキも今はありません。懐かしい思い出をありがとうございました。
私がこの曲を最初に聴いて覚えたのは、この演奏をNHK-FMで放送したものだったようです。まさか映像が残っているとは思わなくて驚きました。私の当時のエアチェックでも「こうもり」がはっきり聞き取れたのが決め手です。指揮者や演奏者のことにまだ興味がなく、曲名だけが目的だった録音行為が、偶然このような素晴らしい演奏であったことを嬉しく思います。なお、当時は「こうもり」のほうが気に入って、そればかり聴いてました。ありがとうございました。

今は余韻大事かもだけど、クライバーは溌剌とした終わりに一時停止は求めていません。むしろ拍手喝采が嬉しいのです。この曲はブルックナーではありません。
ライブだし、この曲調なら別に変とは思わないけどなぁ。6番の終わりにブラボーしたおじさんはいまだに許せないしベートーヴェンに100万回詫びろと今でも思ってるけど。
