I first watched The Fog back in the 1980s when I was 9 and it scared me to bits - giving me nightmares for months afterwards. The soundtrack is just so scary and really captured the essence of the film. Don't even bother with the rubbish 2000s remake - watch the 1980 original.
Just saw this movie for the first time a couple nights ago. I'd seen the atrocious remake first, so I was really hoping this one would blow me away, and it did!
This was the first horror movie I watched. I remember it was ABC in 81 or 82 and my mom let my sister and I watch it. I was 6 at the time. It was my first introduction to horror movies and John Carpenter...and I was hooked on Carpenter movies since. Good times.
But it was a campfire, like this one. The ship crashed against the rocks, the hull sheared in two, mars snapped like a twig. The wreckage sank, with all the men aboard. At the bottom of the sea, lay the Elizabeth Dane, with her crew, their lungs filled with salt water, their eyes open, staring to the darkness. And above, as suddenly as it come, the fog lifted, receded back across the ocean and never came again. But it is told by the fishermen, and their fathers and grandfathers.........
am i the only one who thought the song theme was scarier than the movie itself..... this song scared the shit out of me when i was younger. the dad of a friend of mine told us the story line....turned the power off and played this song...oh boy was i scared. now years later im a horror fanatic and watched this film for the first time and it wasnt scary at all but this song will always carry a great memory with it
11:55, almost midnight. Enough time for one more story. One more story before 12:00, just to keep us warm. In five minutes, it will be the 21st of April. One hundred years ago on the 21st of April, out in the waters around Spivey Point, a small clipper ship drew toward land. Suddenly, out of the night, the fog rolled in. For a moment, they could see nothing, not a foot in front of them. Then, they saw a light. ....................................................
I watched a documentary of some sort on this film, and apparently there wasn't much of a score for this film-- which is odd for Carpenter. Anyway, they test screened it and exec's didn't find it very scary. So Carpenter reworked the music and added a few more musical pieces; specifically when Barbeau is trying to escape ghost pirates at the radio station. The final film's entire score is very effective and I consider it one of his best.
Some people kick this movie for one reason or another but I think is every bit as good as Halloween. It is like the classic horror films that came out of Britain in the fifties and sixties like Village of the Damned, Night of the Demon and others. A good horror movie does not need to be saturated in gore to be scary. The only clunky bits iss the subplot with Jamie Lee Curtis. It feels tacked on, but it's nice to see her regardless. I like the twist that the villians are not who you expect.
+█ VerDoX █ I also have a video on UA-cam with the song and got the message because of the rights. But I also have no ads and it is not listed, do I get problems?
Fun fact, John Carpenter used the opening melody of "Moskau" by Dschinghis Khan for this song. Go listen to that song right now.
listen as well to ,,,,,sound of silence ,,,,,,,,nevertheless ,,,,,,fantastic
i fall asleep to this film every night, with enough time for one more ghost story.....

This movie is so amazing! The Remake was pure shit. Some movies should just never be remade.

There's no fog bank out there...
Still I enjoyed it quite well I have not watched the remake though.
Whatever you do, don't watch the remake.
Good advice!I haven't or will.
+G is for Grievous yea ugh they tryed to make it a love story or something
This tune was actually recorded by accident when John's 2 cats started mating on his keyboard.
No matter what you say, 80^s are the golden shit horror epoque. The music, the ambientation, everything. The new hd millenium sucks
@TheAltair4 ; OH YES !
I saw it a few hours ago.
What s shame for the original...
@pianomanmaestro I think the only thing carpenter has to do with his remakes is that he collects a check
Did John also produce The Fog that came out in 2005???????
Il y'a que la bande originale qui est bien sinon le film c'est même pas la peine de le voir ! une belle bouse en perspective .
Four traitors met their grisly fate MUAHUAHAHAHARRRRR..

Si tu as vu le remake, je comprend ta réaction si tu as vu l'original alors c'est que tu n'as aucune appréciation artistique et c'est bien triste.
Dschinghis Khan - Moskau lol
Whoever produced the almost unbelievably bad 2005 remake of this classic should have been fed to zombie pirates.
Dont you have Problems cause of the rights by using the Soundtrack?
No because he doesn't put ads on it!
I don't want to say that it is 100% legal to load it up on UA-cam :P
+█ VerDoX █ I also have a video on UA-cam with the song and got the message because of the rights. But I also have no ads and it is not listed, do I get problems?
You only have to accept the button where they say it's not your content ;)
█ VerDoX █ Of cour'se it's not legal. Not 1 %...
zombie riot...

I think this Soundtrack ist from the song "Dangerous"
😂😂😂
This is the only good thing about this movie
the remake had a terrible soundtrack
'the running man' copied this music
