- A Side-Scrolling Fighting Platform game with little Role-Playing elements where you travel through various scenery to rescue the princess from an evil dragon. This is the first game from Namco to include a life-bar system.
This game reminds me a cross between Dragon's Lair and Zelda. Pretty good game before Zelda.
This game took longer than expected as it's very time-consuming game.
Released in December 1984.
Note: No cheats and used only savestates all the way until level 12. After level 12, the game repeats the last four levels endlessly until I run out of lives. After the last four previous levels start repeating, I used invincibility cheat to show that Cecilia the Princess can be kidnapped by the dragon if you do not have the scepter.

First game with double jump, first game with an HP bar, first action-adventure RPG... Man, this game deserves more recognition

Also the first game where the protagonist looks like he's having he wank while walking.
Also one of the first scrolling platformers- came out after Pac Land but before Ghosts and Goblins & Super Mario Bros.
But not the first action rpg... that was already a popular niche genre on Japanese PCs... see Hydlide and Dragon Slayer for examples. Maybe the first side scrolling one though?

This and Wonderboy in Monsterland were my two favourite games back in the days and I bought original pcbs of both games. Amazing!!!
It's like an early version of Zelda 2.
the soundtrack near 4:00 is also reminiscent of the soundtrack in the Zelda 2 castles.
This game is so hard that I've only managed to complete the first 4 levels, but not at once, because I played it on my Namco Museum Battle Collection for PSP I used to have.

Old Classic Retro Gaming Double Dragon is one of my favorite brawling games, and this version is truly astounding. I might need to try it out later! :-) I liked that video as well!

you clearly haven't played many 80' s classics to say that; they still hold up (especially compared to the trash coming out now in the 2020's), and this is coming from a 90's kid!

The main character Clovis looks like his head and feet are twisted on backwards.
Clovis (the game's main character) kinda reminds me of Gil from Tower of Druaga. Interestingly, both games are by Namco and came out in the same year.

Playing it right now. Bought Dragon Valor for PS1 for 70 bucks as well. Totally worth it.

Did you ever work out what makes the sword go away? It's a crazy good weapon with 2x damage and extra reach, sometimes only lasts a couple of minutes though and then goes away even though you haven't swapped it with the sceptre?

Is this just an emulator bug? looks like some of the body parts are supposed to be mirrored when moving right (everything looks correct when moving left)
