So my problem is I have a small forehead, about 2 fingers and a half tall, but I have a rectangle face shape.. so I've been told to not go for volume because of my already long face, but I need volume to compensate for my small forehead.. what to do?
Your best best may be to hide your forehead with light whispy bangs. If you are male, typically you will want a more rectangular face. Also, You are aiming for balance so it would good to add height above the eves if the length under the eyes is disproportionate. Simply having a rectangular head wouldnt mean that you can't have height unless you are saying that your head is disproportionately long. In that case, you could hide a little of the length while simultaneously adding height above the eyes with hair, whispy bangs and hide the forehead line
