श्री सूक्त ऋग्वेद के खिल सूक्त का भाग है. माना जाता है कि खिल सूक्त के मंत्र मूल ऋग्वेद में बाद में जोड़े गए हैं, मगर इसे वैदिक युग और वेद का ही भाग माना है. श्री सूक्त में जातवेद का उल्लेख बार-बार आता है.
जातवेद का अर्थ क्या है?
जातवेद का अर्थ है "जिसने सब कुछ जाना है" या "जिसे सभी चीजों का ज्ञान है।" इस शब्द का प्रयोग विशेष रूप से अग्नि या अग्नि देवता के लिए किया जाता है। इसका एक कारण ये भी है, कि वैदिक काल में यज्ञ और हवन की परंपरा थी और अग्नि के बिना ये संभव नहीं था। चूंकि अग्नि सभी यज्ञों और हवनों का महत्वपूर्ण हिस्सा था, इसलिए वो साक्षी होता था सभी शुभकर्म और उसे सारा ज्ञान प्राप्त होता था। “अग्निसाक्षी” या “अग्नि साक्षी है” हमारी बोलचाल और भाषा में बड़ा ही common है। इसलिए अग्नि को "जातवेद" कहा जाता है.
Found in the Rigveda Khil Sookta, Sri Sukta consists of 15 verses that glorify and praise the divine qualities of Goddess Lakshmi. Devotees recite Shri Sookta to invoke the blessings of Lakshmi for wealth, success, overall well-being and to attract abundance and success into one's life.
The hymn is often chanted during religious ceremonies, particularly during the worship of Lakshmi during Diwali and other auspicious occasions.
