Thanks for a concise and perfect tutorial for this very complex song. Spent an hour trying to learn by ear but realized there was more than just major and minor 7 chords but couldn’t figure it out on my own. You brought it all together here. Thanks for your time to teach this. Very addicted to learning this song and your lesson here makes me wanna go thru the hand cramps to learn it 😹 Thanks a million man!!! 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I love the chords in this song. The combination of them touches something in my brain that I can’t describe - but it’s nice. I was wondering how this would work with guitar - but it does work well.
Great lesson! Love Todd Rundgren’s music! Could you please do a lesson for “It wouldn’t have made any difference” if possible. Thank you Dave! You’re the best!
Man! You did such a good job with that tutorial I think it is within my grasp to learn it. The song came out when I was a teenager and I have always loved it.
really good!!! so true how most others drag it out for 20 minutes. dave gets it done without any BS.thanks dave, cool meeting you. Joe A. From long island
I can't understand how your channel never popped up in my suggestion pages. The best I've seen and trust me I've subscribed to over a dozen. I've got some catching up to do. Love this song btw. Thank you!!
ugh thank you SO much!! you made this very easy to play thanks to your explanations!! love your style, too. i adore this song and i'm so happy to found such a great tutorial to play it myself.
Super job on another superlative selection. You're absolutely slaying me!! Pardon the sibilance. You have a tutorial for at least five (what I assumed were cleverly obscure, haa) songs that I was ready to heap on Sox/ Celts/Bruins/Garden Concert Fans. Unfortunately in The People's Republic of Boston, "Live" Human gatherings are implicitly illegal. My guess for a long time .A real bad hit for live music. Fortunately you're nailing these dynamite tunes. I've been close but ,like Mr. Nixon, I concede. You're dead on these gems and that's fine with me. It's not fun playing them half assedly chordwise. I love watching Youngins react to these "Time vault " songs. They rang our bell fifty years ago, floor them today and will do the same in another fifty. Once good ears hear them, they want in. For some, there's no going back. Hope the powers that be are sensible about how to handle the live music situation. But I digress. Haaa! Rant over. Great tutorial on another killer cut. '
I may have commented a while back, but this is just stellar. Great intermediate/advanced lesson, and I love your description of verse two. I wish there were an entire channel devoted to deconstructing Todd Rundgren songs. A master of slash chords and so much more (Don't You Ever Listen?). Rock on.
I enjoyed that lesson Dave that was great you ain't kidding about that hand falling off by the time I got all the timing right and all the cords in place I had to go soak my hand in the hot tub for an hour LOL
Brother YOU are my friend! I love you man! This is the very best lesson on this tune and your accent is bad ass! Im just an old hillbilly rock n roll guy so im strugglin to throw in the pretty r&b notes but i absolutely adore this music. Thumbs up from alabama
This one sounds more authentic to the song than with what I've able to find on Ultimate Guitar. Thank you so much, me likes the sound much better without a capo.
Good one, Dave! And, a lot easier than the way I learned this song... and without having to capo the second fret, either. It starts out higher on the fret board, but makes up for it throughout the rest of the song ...and it works. Thanks, Dave!
Thanks Dave. Love this song obviously, I think when he walks the chords down on "never want to make you change" I'm guessing that's in 3/4 time or it's emphasis is there. Also their aren't key changes all over the place as there is ONLY ONE key change. I'm a musical drop out, so thanks.
You can look at that section as a bar of 4/4 with a bar of 3/4, however with the feel of the section it might just be seen as a bar of 7/4. As far as key changes go, the first run down is in 3 keys. Gm7 to Fmaj7 we can see as the key of F. Then Ebmaj7 to Dm7 this is the key of Bb. Then the tag on the end is Ab/Bb to Bb, implying the 4 to the 5 movement in the key of Eb.
Todd greatly improved this song by speeding it up from his original NAZZ version. so much so it's been pretty much forgotten. But there is an original version.
@@boatbikeandbeyond1376 yes when the chord is the acting 5 chord, you can call it a Bb11 and you can also add the first string in your chord because x11111 is Bb1 Eb11 Ab7 C9 F5
After the first verse when it goes into the cadence: it’s actually B#11 to Gminor7 over B# or Gm7/b# not b# it’s got more to it than a Straight major bar chord. Everything else seems spot on and you teach it very well and easy to understand.
Did you mean Bb not B#? Also, you are saying that the Bb is a Bb6 or as you like to call it Gm7/Bb. I respectfully disagree. There is no G I can hear in that chord.
@@DavesGuitarChannel yes I agree that was some good stuff I think Jessie does a good job in that band also the bass player is very tight I just think Todd gets a little carried away sometimes with his lead guitar playing not all the time but I myself am guilty of doing the same thing it's usually when he's playing live I know I've gone back and listen to myself and asked what the hell was I thinking I think it happens when you try to put way more than you need to love to hear your view on it

Thanks a lot Boss! Simple clear a real gifted teacher❤❤❤
Thank you for this. I’ve always loved this melody. I sing it an octave lower. Too old to sing high register anymore. 👍

I don't know how I found this secret guitar channel lol. I like it though, one of the best. Love this song.
Thanks. You Tube is keeping me hidden.
Awesome guitar lesson Dave. Have a good day.
I love how you’re to the point. Most channels would have dragged this out for 20 mins. Also sweet gear behind you. I bet that krank is a blast!
Nicely done! Thanks!

You are a god for this
Need to try "Boat On The Charles" or "Chain Letter" from the album 'Runt' - Amazing Songs.
Well Done Dave! Great Song/Great Video
Good job! Wish I could play like you... very talented! "Hands about to fall off"! 😆 Love this song tho....seems like a tough one for a beginner.
This one sounds more authentic to the song than with what I've able to find on Ultimate Guitar. Thank you so much, me likes the sound much better without a capo.
Awesome dave ! Flip side of Lonesome dave...foghat LoL.
Virtually all the chords are in Stoned Soul Picnic (1968) by the great Laura Nyro, Todd's major songwriting influence in his early career.

Thanks for that Dave...all I can say is, "Very good."
Nice job sounds great well worked out of the great todd rungren try this one out thanks

Your a juke box!! Love this shit
this would be an awesome answering machine message
Do you have any tips for playing songs like this that are high up on the neck and you have to bar them?
Like which
@Dave's Guitar Channel I just meant it general, like the first chord. You barring the low E too?
No I'm muting it with my finger
glad I know all these chords from jazz band .. nonetheless, thanks for havng them all down so I don't have to get all the voicings correct
The tag goes to Bb6 important because the Ab resolved to the G
Nicee
Are you playing 6x654x for the Bb11?
Yes it's the same as Ab/Bb. Bb1 Ab7 C9 Eb11
@@DavesGuitarChannel ah yes an Ab chord w the Bb as the bass note! thanks! x1111x also.

Muy bueno el video lastima que no explica nada sobre el rasgueo de la mano derecha.
Hello it's me Dave what can I say solid job on teachingPS is it me or is Todd lead playing all over the place🤔🎶
I liked his playing on Meatloaf's Bat out Of Hell Album.

Michael Hedges does a nice cover of this song.
How do you know the song so well but not know the words 😸
That’s me😂😂 I can’t remember lyrics
Well, forgive me while I sing & play the $h¡Г outta this song (without the key change)....:)
It would be nice for a tutorial on the friggin chords. !!!! Shit. Fuucking frustrating.
Sounds like you need a one on one lesson. I don't like to slow down my lessons. I am here if you have any questions.
Good lesson... I'm surprised you know all of the chords but so few of the words lol.
I am surprised you knew the words but so few of the chords.
@@DavesGuitarChannel Actually I do know most of the chords.
@@neosquid9609 I am teasing, when I have so many songs in my head, I tend to know the lyrics of the ones that I perform regularly.
