Thanks for adding chapters to the video, super handy! Edit to add: it's not your responsibility to do it, but the UAP's promise of capping home loan interest rates really needs a disclaimer. It's not currently possible for the government to regulate interest rates, because this is the RBA's responsibility. To do this would require a huge change in the law and what the RBA is and does, and would increase the wealth gap in Australia by either driving up inflation or stopping banks from giving out mortgages altogether.
It seems to me UAP is just claiming whatever bullshit fits the group their targeting. If they get in they won’t do anything but help the big man himself, Palmer.
@@stoopidapples1596 That’s my understanding too. He’s also previously stated that he’s fine with not getting votes because ultimately he wants to help the Liberals get back in. Actually inflation has greatly increased under an RBA. The idea of personal income tax, rather than tariffs also belongs to the idea of a centralised bank controlling monetary policy. Also, what is the point of an RBA, when they set the cash-rate, only for banks to be 50 times higher than the RBA rate (see all banks offering 4.99% fixed home loans when the RBA was at 0.1%)
Thank you for a no BS guide to the election. Some parties I wouldn’t have considered look quite reasonable and others I would have considered but now see they don’t align with my values.
Hey! Well done, this is GREAT. Exactly what we need for participatory democracy.. and 😜 way better than my vague idea to interview all candidates standing & print that up for local voters ( too hard😎)
When I was looking into the Australian Citizens party, the one key thing i noticed that raised a lot of alarm bells for me was their 9th policy on their website which states that they want to promote the "One China" policy in order to reduce tensions. As much as i like some of their other policies, that's a big no-no for me
Yeah and given how China threw Pakistan and Sri Lanka under the bus when they begged China to help them out of their serious economic woes... well... after they spent so long kissing up to China it goes to show there's not much point appeasing them. Dealing with evil monsters like the Chinese government will ALWAYS be feeding the crocodile and hoping it eats you last. And given China's dangerous interaction with one of our military vessels and even plans to build a military base within striking distance of the east coast well... any genuine thoughts of keeping them at bay forever by appeasement are just wishful thinking.
@Jim farmon if you don't have any actual understanding of what is going on in the world, then i would advise to "shut the fuck up while the grown folks is talkin!"
Just a small correction for your future information. The Liberal National Party of Queensland is not a separate party to the Liberal Party of Australia. Both major parties are federations of state-based party organizations and the LNP is the Queensland division of the Liberal Party.
This is a great video! Well researched and very informative. My friend and I were attempting to look at the parties for the election and got super overwhelmed after only a few websites. This makes it clear and easy to follow/understand.
Love this video, although im more well-versed in party platforms than the average person I couldnt help to watch it and test my knowledge. Always providing great knowledge for such an under-represented space on UA-cam ❤️❤️
Me who only cares which party benefits me, the teals are making more ads than them. I’ll just vote labor party, I guess I’m anarchist, I believe in open borders with unrestricted immigration, low taxes (10% flat income tax after 100,000 and gst only for drugs and similar stuff), and climate goals should be completed via population encouraging incentives like awards. And remove all restriction and regulation for anyone, and remove all things related to equality because it only creates inequality. And speed up climate change and find a way to exceed China in pollution output, so the Australian Antarctic territory can be exploited at the expense of other countries.
Great video in a palatable format, gets straight to the point! Fusion party has caught my attention. So much potential if we invest in and really look at the available options science can give us
I just hope the gst can be scrapped, it’s shit that just increases taxes by 10% for everyone. I hope Australia gets to reach 250 million people though.
@@1mol831 You do understand that the GST replaced the messy Wholesale Sales Tax system, more commonly known just as "Sale Tax" at the time (which was around the 22% in the mid to late nineties) and many other state taxes? So if GST is "scrapped" the government would just bring all those taxes back.... and it would no doubt cost us more ('cause the government don't ever lower taxes or charges when they make changes). So it wasn't just a straight 10% on top of everything that existed - although that didn't stop businesses for taking advantage of the situation and upping the their profit margins amongst the price changes as most consumers had no idea what Wholesale Sales Tax was really. I would just be happy if they don't increase it!!!!

This sounds the exact same as Dutch politics. The only difference is that we don't really have regional parties running for parliament because our country is really small.

I’m quite politically engaged, but I still keep coming back to this video as it provides such an excellent summary of all the major and minor parties. This is especially useful when making decisions about voting in the Senate! I would love to see a video from you that explains the complexities and reasons behind how senate votes are counted and how senators are elected. For example, the senate quota formula is: Number of formal ballot papers / (Number of senators to be elected + 1), but why is the +1 there? Plus the way surplus votes (when a party meets quota for 1 senator but not 2) are handled is quite interesting but rarely talked about. So there are lots of interesting things you could discuss. You could even release this video after the election since the Senate counting takes weeks!
Coming from someone from the UK i found this video very interesting. In the UK Labour is a major just like in Australia with the Greens being a major minor party. Yet the Liberal Democrats are a major party with the Liberals being one of the minor ones. While there are similarities between political parties in both countries you also have those who are on the opposite side of the party scale. Though here in the UK both the Liberal Democrats and Greens are part of the PC culture that a lot of us hate. We also have a load of parties even a few that were formed in the last couple years or so. Thanks for the upload. Hardcore Lime had a few videos up but took them down for some reason. We also have some regional parties as well as a number of local ones.
I think Labor has some similarities, but lib dem and liberal here don't really match their namesake counterparts in the UK. Liberal national coalition is more like the conservative party in the UK.
I was planning to throw away my vote but now I will reconsider. Thanks for pulling this information for your audience. I still have some reservations about these points being promises that government won't follow through on. I am kind of hoping for a hung parliament as it might get some useful changes in parties people might not consider otherwise. Doing great work for politically unmotivated/unsure citizens like myself.
You cant actually throw your vote away, anyone you vote for have preferences and if the party you voted for dont win, and you didnt put down any preferences, your vote goes to that parties preference, so technically you cant throw a vote, you are voting for someone. So do research and care about what happens to the country and people who live in that country.
@@kashiichan fair enough, but even a donkey vote is still voting for someone, and if you are gonna take the time to go out do that, just take a little more time to research what you might want from a government. I just dont get it, i mean, its easy for me because im invested in politics, i mean i subscribe to multiple channels that talk about it, as well as party members youtube channels, and i will watch the parlimentary recordings on occasion, but you dont have to go that extreme to be vested in how the country is run and the trillions of dollars of tax money being spent.
@@Baelfyr parties don't choose your preferences anymore. If you only put one number down and they don't get majority on first preference, your vote exhausts.

Then literally anyone who gives money, even $5 has a say in a candidate/party's policy. Picking who you support because of existing policies and having an active voice in shaping that policy are two different things.
Although having one of the single best policies on offer with the Tobin Tax, the most noteworthy thing about Australian Citizens Party is they are Larouchites, and one should really have a look in to Lyndon LaRouche before throwing any votes their way.
Having nurses working eight hour shifts in nursing homes across Australia 24/7 would need thousands of nurses we don’t have (ALP). Some nursing homes only have 20 or so occupants and most nurses on a night shift would be doing not much.
4:05 The Coalition was NOT against a federal ICAC - They proposed very detailed and carefully thought out draft legislation that specified how the proposed commission would work together with existing federal, state and local jurisdictions (rather than just overriding these). It proposed two spheres of operation, whereby: 1) corruption in federal policing cases would be prosecuted by the public service, and 2) corruption in politics and the public service would be prosecuted by federal policing. That means that corruption in policing is not solely investigated by policing bodies, and that corruption in politics is immediately treated as a criminal investigation. But, you know, it had no teeth. Plus, it was championed by Scott Morrison, so it HAD to be wrong, right?
1) the Commonwealth Integrity Commission couldn't make determinations of fact if someone had engaged in corruption 2) the CIC policy was dropped 3) the Coalition repeatedly blocked debate and introduction of ICAC bills 4) Morrison said an ICAC would be dangerous and called it a "kangaroo court" 5) A federal ICAC still requires the australian federal police and courts to do the actual prosecuting, at no point does an ICAC override any existing structure just creates an independent avenue to investigate corruption - something the Liberal bill absolutely did not enable because it did not independently investigate, nor did it make determinations on corruption. Saying the Liberals were against a federal ICAC is a 100% accurate statement given their voting record, public statements, and their commitment to alternative policies. I'm sure not everyone in the party disagrees with a federal ICAC, but it has been official party line to block introduction of one into the House. I didn't say if Morrison's Commonwealth Integrity Commission was good or bad legislation, but it's not an ICAC - and Morrison has been very vocally against an ICAC. It was up to the public to decide if they agreed
@@AuspolExplained 1) The proposed CIC couldn't make findings of corruption because that should be a matter for the courts, though importantly it was proposed that the public sector division be given powers to investigate the judiciary; 2) the CIC policy was not dropped, the Coalition just refused to budge from the CIC model and the parameters of its consultation process; 3a) Labor repeatedly blocked debate of the CIC model, unequivocally indicating that they wouldn't support passage of the bill; 3b) based on this refusal to engage with the CIC model, the Coalition blocked cross bench moves for separate "ICAC" bills; 4) Morrison said that conducting public hearings and the associated "trial-by-media" prior to a court's determination of guilt is destructive of public servants' careers; 5a) EXACTLY the point of the CIC model; 5b) Part 4, Division 2, Subdivision C of the bill reads - "Integrity Commissioner may deal with corruption issues on own initiative"; 5c) AGAIN, a matter for the courts - the proposed CIC charged its public sector division with conducting independent investigations and compiling a brief of evidence to be put before the courts, as well as providing a new and stronger legal framework for mandatory reporting. In an otherwise balanced and well-researched video presentation, saying the Liberals were against a "federal ICAC" is an unfair and inaccurate statement that lazily buys into the pantomime narrative that the evil Coalition were in principle opposed to legislation against corruption.
I'm so happy this video was recommended to me, I was feeling very disillusioned this election, I'm a lifelong Labor voter who was thinking of putting Greens first and Labor second this year thinking that a party halfway between Labor and the Greens is perfect for me, but by gum now I know the Australian Democrats exist and they feel like a party just for me which is weirdly reinvigorating and exciting!
great video but just want to point out two things: 1) ALP is centrist and leaning more towards the right than left these days and 2) the greens want to increase welfare to $88 a DAY, not a week (which would be way less than it is already)
@@kaywa8537 Political spectrum labelling is meaningless nowadays because its not based on economics anymore. Take the GAP party A nationalist party yes, But economically they are a left leaning one. They believe the tax burden should be on businesses not individual workers. They want to end privatisation altogether and even renationalise many industry's. They want improve worker protections and drastically reduce work hours in industries like trucking where fatigue is a factor. They oppose free trade. They want to limit foreign ownership of businesses. They believe all mineral resources belong collectively to the public. They reject birth right ownership of land. They don't just want a national bank, they want a nationalised banking system. They want to lower the retirement age and adjust pension based on COL each quarter. Their anti-immigration position is based on how it impacts wages and employment opportunities. Yet not even GAP would call themselves left wing and many of their voters would be get riled up if you informed them that these are fundamentally left wing economic arguments.
The Left-Ring political spectrum is only really useful for understanding parties' vague relative positions in comparison to each other. Given this, the ALP should be described as left-wing in the Australian political spectrum simply because it is the more left-wing of the two major parties of government. The "center" of Australian politics is between the ALP and the Liberals and competed over by them. It doesn't belong to either of them.
An increase to 88$ a day would be $1232 a fortnight... Even as a carer, with both my carers allowance and carers pension combined is less than that atm. So yeah. I don't think some dropkick muppet on meth should get that as a job seeker, but I do think carers and all those on pensions should.

There were also some parties that had me in the first half then stepped on their own foot hahaha
It was nice of UA-cam to wait until AFTER the election to drop this on my recommended feed... Still, happy with the way I voted, and the outcome :)
Dammit UA-cam, why couldn’t you recommended this to me BEFORE the election?
I could have definitely done with watching this sooner
It would definitely have come in handy
It’s a very expensive campaign designed to keep the system in place that keeps the rich getting richer and the poor getting poorer.
@@bronwynloechel8403 yep, he's trying to bamkroll the election in the Libs favour. But he just ended up spending $100mil on getting no seats with massive swings away from Libs to Greens and Indies
David,
That was a terrific summary, thanks.
My 21yo daughter just put me on to it today & I wish I had listened prior to the weekend.
Thanks again
Hey! Well done, this is GREAT. Exactly what we need for participatory democracy.. and 😜 way better than my vague idea to interview all candidates standing & print that up for local voters ( too hard😎)
Fun fact most Aussies like myself won't know these parties exist until an election day comes up
Brooo, i was so onboard with the Australian citizen party and then “doesn’t believe in climate change” you were sooo close
I wish I saw this video before the election. So many parties we are forced to vote for and I had no idea what they stood for.
Me too. As a first time voter it was really hard to find impartial & complete information regarding all of the parties running in my electorate
@Jim farmon Taiwanese sovereignty oooooooooo
Also they don’t believe in climate change which raises more alarm bells
Same I got nervous where they supported the belt and road so making us closer to become a Chinese puppet state
Just a small correction for your future information. The Liberal National Party of Queensland is not a separate party to the Liberal Party of Australia. Both major parties are federations of state-based party organizations and the LNP is the Queensland division of the Liberal Party.
Reminds me how many of these parties could just be merged to save everyone's time.
That’s what preference voting does.
That was what fusion basically did.
Totally, so many common issues. 50% of these parties could fit in with the greens.
Hey mate. This is great! Can I suggest putting chapters so each party has a time stamp to jump to.
Good idea! I'll figure out how to do that soon
@@AuspolExplained If you copy and paste the timestamps from the pinned comment into the description it'll add chapters
Thank you so much for this! I will be sharing it around as much as possible!
@@1mol831 nonsense.
@@dingodazz3724 just remove all indirect taxes then. And also remove state taxes.
@@1mol831 Yeah, like that will happen..... The Government would just cut Public Services if it did.
This is amazing. Great effort my dude!
My mum voted for the informed medical choices party because she thought they were a bettering healthcare and medicine cost party
Yeah it's grossly disingenuous. Surely if they were adults willing to take responsibility for their own actions they could come up with a more honest name like the "We don't read or understand science but we're happy for you to get sick or die due to treatable medical conditions party."
Oh no! Haha
One slight correction: the greens also want to include mental health care into Medicare
Just something to note if you're looking into the Australian citizens party. They're affiliated with the Larouche movement and have been accused of being anti-Semitic (which makes their focus on the banks a bit concerning), racist and anti-lgbtq.
My local australian citizens party candidate has One Nation preferenced 2nd on their how to vote card, so y'know, buyer beware.
I'm not surprised considering their name looking nationally populist xD
What’s the last bit of your comment even meant to suggest? So what they have one nation second?
@@lordpolish2727 ..it means the citizens party greatly supports a far-right one.
@@Isaac-ho8gh one nation isnt bloody far right, complete BS
@@lordpolish2727 are you fucking serious? They're racist and xenophobic as fuck dude, and they've constantly been apologists for right-wing nuts like Trump.
This is an awesome video! I thought I was up on a lot of minor parties but no. Interesting how climate change action and ICAC are such polarising topics.
Fantastic rundown on all the parties. Thanks for your hard work keeping everyone informed.
This was such a great video! I wish I'd found your channel before the election, but thank you for the amount of work that you put into this. 👍👍👍🙂
Watching this again on election day with my partner. Thank you for posting this
Man this video is very refreshing and surprisingly unbiased
There are plenty of small parties that have great idea and wish I saw this video when I voted, I had some trouble deciding what party I should put 3rd 4th etc.
You got yourself a new subscriber
Just something I noticed. It was Independent Senator Rex Patrick who put it to the Senate for the fuel tax excise of 50% but was watered down by the coalition.
Thank you so much!!!! This is fantastic- especially since you added the time stamps also!!!
This is a great video, it definitely gives people a direction and helps summarise the goals and gives people these parties to look into further, thank you for your channel
this is gonna make prioritising my votes so much easier :3 thank you! also i sent it to my friends.
After you listed off Liberal's policies and views I was quite relieved they didn't win. Thanks for the vid.
This sounds the exact same as Dutch politics. The only difference is that we don't really have regional parties running for parliament because our country is really small.
Thank you so much for this. Your channel has been so helpful! I have learned so much!
Thanks so much for doing this! Really appreciate it.
Thanks so much for making this - just the right amount of info to judge each one :)
Thank you! So important your generous work! And what a charming presentation. Well done, indeed.
You’re a legend mate thanks for this
This video is brilliant! Really helped me to make more informed decision when voting. Will be sharing this on socials to help others.

Man it would have been nice if the algorithm had shown me this a week ago. Still got the right stuff but would have let me go further with my senate preferences.

Great video! Nice summary.
From Canada here! Video was recommended after watching Turd vs Johnny Depp. Love your videos!
Thanks for all your hard work! I love you platonically also. 💙
I think they may have meant they were going to donkey-vote.
@@kashiichan fair enough, but even a donkey vote is still voting for someone, and if you are gonna take the time to go out do that, just take a little more time to research what you might want from a government. Its once every three years, its honestly not that hard and people complain.
@@Baelfyr r/wooosh
@@Baelfyr parties don't choose your preferences anymore. If you only put one number down and they don't get majority on first preference, your vote exhausts.
Very informative and helpful information 👍
Welp, this would certainly have been useful last week...thanks algorithm!
i find the difference between socialist alliance and the victorian socialists to be quite interesting.
socialist alliance talks about collective ownership by the workers
victorian socialists talk about public ownership.
the classic red black split of socialist politics.

This should've popped up in my feed before the election, not 4 days after it.
Don't worry I'll make another one in 3 years and you'll be ready
This video should be mandatory for all before voting.
This is legendary!
9:00 "doesnt have a say in candidates policies" yes they do, they chose who to fund and thus whos policies they support
Then literally anyone who gives money, even $5 has a say in a candidate/party's policy. Picking who you support because of existing policies and having an active voice in shaping that policy are two different things.
@@AuspolExplained an individual donating and an organisation donating are 2 entirely different things
Although having one of the single best policies on offer with the Tobin Tax, the most noteworthy thing about Australian Citizens Party is they are Larouchites, and one should really have a look in to Lyndon LaRouche before throwing any votes their way.
Good thing i'm watching this now, after the election and when living in a different country
Having nurses working eight hour shifts in nursing homes across Australia 24/7 would need thousands of nurses we don’t have (ALP). Some nursing homes only have 20 or so occupants and most nurses on a night shift would be doing not much.
Can you do a recap of this on everyone who got in? That would be very epic.
Can we get this as a sheet to use for planning preferences?
Or even a powerpoint.
It would be nice if there was someone with these sheets and the video at all the polling areas

There's a link to the script in the video description! That'll contain all the information.
@@AuspolExplained
1) The proposed CIC couldn't make findings of corruption because that should be a matter for the courts, though importantly it was proposed that the public sector division be given powers to investigate the judiciary;
2) the CIC policy was not dropped, the Coalition just refused to budge from the CIC model and the parameters of its consultation process;
3a) Labor repeatedly blocked debate of the CIC model, unequivocally indicating that they wouldn't support passage of the bill;
3b) based on this refusal to engage with the CIC model, the Coalition blocked cross bench moves for separate "ICAC" bills;
4) Morrison said that conducting public hearings and the associated "trial-by-media" prior to a court's determination of guilt is destructive of public servants' careers;
5a) EXACTLY the point of the CIC model;
5b) Part 4, Division 2, Subdivision C of the bill reads - "Integrity Commissioner may deal with corruption issues on own initiative";
5c) AGAIN, a matter for the courts - the proposed CIC charged its public sector division with conducting independent investigations and compiling a brief of evidence to be put before the courts, as well as providing a new and stronger legal framework for mandatory reporting.
In an otherwise balanced and well-researched video presentation, saying the Liberals were against a "federal ICAC" is an unfair and inaccurate statement that lazily buys into the pantomime narrative that the evil Coalition were in principle opposed to legislation against corruption.
United Australia party pro mining hmmmmmmmmmmm.
Definitely doesn't have to do with clive palmer owning a mega mining business
Great video, wish I had seen before I had voted
I'm so happy this video was recommended to me, I was feeling very disillusioned this election, I'm a lifelong Labor voter who was thinking of putting Greens first and Labor second this year thinking that a party halfway between Labor and the Greens is perfect for me, but by gum now I know the Australian Democrats exist and they feel like a party just for me which is weirdly reinvigorating and exciting!
great video but just want to point out two things: 1) ALP is centrist and leaning more towards the right than left these days and 2) the greens want to increase welfare to $88 a DAY, not a week (which would be way less than it is already)
ah woops, my apologies! That is an important difference, sorry.
definitely ALP are centrist but what makes u say they are leaning left?
