I just watched this last night and then I was writing a comment and it was removed and now it’s back. I guess I’m watching it again to see what’s changed.
I had the video in English yesterday, but good to see it re-uploaded. I didn't realise the exhaust smoke was a common problem on McLarens until i saw Tavarish's P1 engine video 😅. Oil restrictors on the turbo oil feeds fixed it right up.
A lot of the repairs or lack thereof were hard to watch but it’s great that you took on such a project by yourself and nothing beats turning wrenches in the garage.
I watch this channel for a couple of years now, upon initial discovery which was due to me falling in love with E scoots. It became evident over the next few drops that this man was not limited to his E Scoots when creativity gets mentioned. Believe this or not but it is the truth, I saw Nick is so adept at soooo many tasks yet he had a successful Photography bidness for his 'Day Job' it had me asking myself why I was even put on the earth, seriously that is how I felt. Here I was thankful that I knew how to change a flat, top up the radiator of the car, knew where to pour the oil (So I could FLEX to my date what an Alpha male I was. To be fair there was no such word in our vocab back then) and as for the Gas, this Alpha knew exactly where that goes too, I could even do it while not taking my eyes off hers, her ones ringing with fear...I had let the pump overfill and Gas was spewing out a tad but we being the ultimate Alpha male, that little mis-hap was taken care of No Sweat! Thankful that I found a mans' channel that is so easy to watch and also 'Ride along shotgun' with him, so to speak, as he amazes people like myself every time he drops a newbie. Chat over time tells us that there are several followers/Subbers who are actually 'In the game' of car doing up and restoring etc who like to follow and even profer the occasional 'Word's of Wisdom' advice on that project, it all goes down a treat as 284k subbers also agree. Compliments of the Season to you and the family Inj and all the best for a prosperous New Year. Let's get that 'Macca' up and rolling. CHAT. Merry Christmas to ALL, I hope your vote mattered. Christmas in New Zealand happens in our Summer, I would love to experience a White Christmas but it doesn't look like it's happening in this lifetime so I will just have to be content with The Injs's latest drops.
For headlights, hit them with 1000 grit and then use Spraymax 2K clear on them. It’s two component catalyzed clearcoat (like what’s on the body of your car). This process has lasted 6+ years for me in the SoCal sun.
We are all waiting to see if the smoke issue gets sorted. Love your optimism but it's like the elephant in the room man. No end opf polishing will sort it if it is a head gasket or whatever. Get it sorted.
3:45 You want to get it "Looking like a thousand bucks again"? A thousand bucks isn't enough for a lightbulb on that beast. Did you mean "looking like a "million" bucks again"? 😄
All the hot glue and fake leather sticker on the dash over the airbag etc. match the 1000$ aesthetic. I don't want to hate on his progress on this awesome car ... but some things are really janky.
For the smoke and low oil pressure, I think it won't be a bad idea to clear all the oil pipe lines like the Turbo oil line to make sure if the old bad oil had caused any blockages in them, it would be clear and the oil should be supplied everywhere it's supposed to.....
A wild Lord Curt appears! I was starting to thine we'd all mass hallucinated him before. Buttoning up all those last little lose bits really does make it feel like the long journey is almost over. It's nice of that guy to want to come over to finish the 3D printed parts. Just the ability to have any part printed now makes so many of those expensive arbitrary parts obtainable.
Congratulations on all of your work! I have been watching since almost the start of this project and it has been a lot of fun to see your experience this adventure!
I admire your enthusiasm and dedication. However, watching you fix a broken speaker mount and such, when there is malice in the combustion palace, gives me anxiety. Hopefully it’s just issues with the turbo oil restrictors or something else cheap and fixable. My first build ever, in 1991, I did exactly the same. The car was fixed and painted and gorgeous but still had a relatively small engine tick. 500 miles later, a con rod made a window in the block. Since then, no cosmetic investment until / unless the mechanics are fully sorted first, especially if it has the potential to be very expensive or scrap the whole project. Put the buffer away and go after that smoking problem! Good Luck.
I've been watching this project from the start. Cool. I like how you make mistakes and then start all over. I flip bikes here in Cairns, Australia. I'm a banker by trade. So, I know the problems.
