In talking about her role as Faith, Eliza Dushku said something to the effect of: "She wasn't sure if she wanted to *be* Buffy, or if she wanted to be *with* Buffy." So she was definitely going for sexual tension in their scenes together.

On the idea that Faith and Buffy's conversations are filled with an almost sexual tension you are absolutely right. Eliza who plays Faith purposely played her as having a crush on Buffy so that she has a whole 'Do I want you' or "Do I want to be you' thing going on in her head. And the fact that she plays Faith with that in mind makes Faith's constant obsession with Buffy's romantic status stand out. She wants any guy Buffy is with and even seems jealous of the attention Buffy gives them. She sleeps with Xander cuz he's close to Buffy then immediately starts asking Buffy if she was ever with him, even seeming disappointed when Buffy denies ever having anything with Xander. She shows interest in Scott Hope (hope I got that name right) who Buffy was trying to start dating in season 3 then when he dumps Buffy before the dance she invites Buffy to go with her instead. Once it is revealed that Angel returned she is easily swayed by Xander into trying to kill him (thought that may be more to do with what she's heard about Angelus). Like it's interesting stuff. She flirts with Buffy constantly as well and I even heard that in one of the episodes when they fight they were supposed to kiss. The specific directors or writers (I don't think Joss wrote on that episode) wanted a kiss between Buffy and Faith but they couldn't get it greenlit by the studio so instead Faith kisses Buffy on the forehead before running off. And like kissing each other on the forehead has kind of become their thing. Buffy does it when Faith is in the coma. Not to mention it's alluded and referenced (mostly as a joke I guess) that they were 'together' in the episode 'Bad Girls'. Like Faith literally draws a heart with an arrow through it on the window when she convinces Buffy to leave school. They fascinate me.

The Mayor really cared about Faith. Remember how he acted after she was gone. He send every shanigan out to search her and was panicing, saying "she'll be alright' to convince himself. After she was found, he made this video tape. And all that on the night before his ascension, a moment he worked for for a whole century! On top of that, he did something Big Bads usually never do: He planned for the case of a failure and showing Faith an exit. When she switches her body with another person - someone without a family - and kills this one in her body, she could live on undected as a new person. I'm not sure, if it was the Mayors intention, that she switched with Buffy instead of a random person.

My question is if hospital personell know what Faith did and where she was located, why would they allow elevators to go that far, why not have them stop before there or have warnings not to go down there? Perhaps they did and this girl just naivly didn't see them. Which comes back to the, in-universe question the detective asked; why was the nurse the only one watching her and not a guard of some kind?

You are correct about the aspect ratio. Except for one episode the show was framed for 4x3 so the R1 DVDs are the best way to watch it. It's not too egregious in the R2/R4 DVDs (which are 16:9 s4-7) but there are other instances of spotting crew. The version you are watching (on Hulu?) is the same as those and it's certainly fine. Yep. Whereas some of us (hi!) had spent the previous 12-18 months going over every damn system at our respective workplaces to make as sure as we could that nothing would blow up. And we’re at work until like 3am just to make sure. And that’s the job; no complaints. What always bugged me is how the media was all “yeah, and nothing happened”. Yeah, nothing happened because we put what I suspect was literally thousands of person-years into making sure. For those not in the biz, my 2038 reference above is legit; there’s another clock-related thing coming. Shouldn’t be an issue for remotely modern systems, but it’s still a thing. Search for “2038 problem” if you’re curious.

Weird; thought I made a comment here. Either I’m spacing or this website has nuked my comment (again). The thing that bugged me about y2k was it was all doom and gloom talk on the news outlets up until the day, and then it was like “well, that was a whole lotta nothing”. To which my response is “it was a whole lotta nothing because several thousand engineers worked for over a year to make sure it wasn’t a whole lotta something.” And a lot of us were up until 3am (or far, far later) on the 1st keeping an eye on things in case something got missed. I don’t care about the hours (that’s the job) or want any credit personally. The general lack of awareness bugs me on general principle. I suspect folks in other job sectors (eg power/water/waste management may have similar feelings). Just saying. :)

Goes hand in hand with if Giles had simply called the council to confirm Mrs. Post was indeed Faith’s watcher, she never would have gone down a bad path to begin with.

The Mayor truly loved Faith as his daughter, and even though he’d been planning his ascension for a century, he immediately puts it on hold and makes Faith his priority after she is missing in her apartment in the season 3 finale.
It’s his sincere love for her that allowed Buffy to manipulate him and goad him into chasing her into the library to be exploded, by boasting about killing her while brandishing the knife he gifted her.
And on the night of his century-planned ascension, he made sure to record her a tape so that he could talk to her from beyond the grave and gift her with magic to allow her to live a life without being hunted by the authorities for her crimes.
The man loved her from beyond his death.
He was an evil, evil man. But he never lied to her. And he genuinely loved her.
In the comics, his spirit would even visit Faith while in her coma in the form of animals he’d possess. Just to sit by her and keep her company.

True, he did love her in his own sick way and gave her stability. I always wondered why no "sane" adult like Giles or Joyce took her in, things would have turned out different if she had a support system. The way Joyce looked at her as a kid to be sacrificed so that her daughter could stop the slaying and be safe pissed me off. Very selfish to look at a young girl who's an orphan and probably has been in the system that way, expendable.

a lot of people call joyce a good mother, but that's an insult to good mothers. joyce is well-intentioned -- where her specific kid is concerned -- but she's not a good mother. i don't know that she would have actually improved anything.
by contrast, we have actually seen giles do some reasonably good parenting from time to time, *and* as the watcher he was actually responsible for faith -- but clearly he viewed that as temporary and happily relinquished it when gwendolyn post showed up, and then westley. and honestly, not only was westley completely incapable of being anything faith needed her to be, but by the time he arrived it was likely too late.

By right, the Watcher’s council should provide active slayers with a base of operations (a home) as well as a salary. If Giles gets one just for providing information to the Slayer and training her, the Slayer should also be paid for actually doing the fighting on behalf of the council and Watcher.

The coma patient collecting dust is a pretty common movie and tv trope. But yeah, the dingy hospital thing doesn't really make sense, lol.
Spike can't hurt humans, nothing to do with morality, just species.
Eliza Dushku has confirmed she played Faith as bisexual and having a thing for Buffy. It's interesting when you know that how much you can see it's present in her performance, the jealousy over Riley here (I think Faith in some ways relates to Angel, too, she feels like Buffy dumped *her*, and Buffy killed her for Angel, so moving on from Angel then becomes an extra slap in the face for Faith). So yeah, you're dead on with noticing the sexual edge in the way Faith interacts with Buffy. I also think you're right about Faith seeing the connection and love and support Buffy has and feeling her lack of the same.
Also, trying to get the original aspect ratio would really be a good idea. The remaster is terrible and actually ruins a lot of things in the show, and yeah, sometimes camera men are visible in it, lol.

"Pulling the plug" is something that you do with patients who require special equipment to keep them alive. In the case of a patient who does not need that equipment, there is no plug to pull. And so they are often sent to a long-term facility, which I assume this clinic is. It appears "crusty, dusty" because the walls are all painted gray rather than white.

Both types of hospital wing exist in real life, although the show exaggerates the grunginess for dramatic effect.

I don’t think that’s necessarily true for a comatose person. If they’re brain dead then the machines may be the only thing keeping the body alive is a different situation, I think.
I think a comatose person is still alive and may have a possibility to heal even to recover somewhat. There’s still some mental function if not consciousness.
A family may decide to take a comatose person off life support if the law allows. Not certain about that. I’m thinking a hospital probably wouldn’t decide that unilaterally.
In this case, however, I’m guessing the Mayor set up care for Faith in his absence which probably means she’d have as long as she needed to recover. Knowing she’s a slayer he would be pretty confident she would.
Likewise the Watchers Council would probably act in a similar manner considering they treat slayers like property.

Regarding Faith's dream. Slayer dreams are prophetic. That doesn't just mean seeing the future, it also means seeing the past. In the first part of the dream, Buffy stabs Faith. In the second part, Buffy Kills the Mayor, and in the third part of the dream, Faith and Buffy merge (in the open grave) and Faith emerges. The first 2 parts of her dream inform Faith of what has happened and the third tells her what will happen.

It's also cutting information out of the frame and affecting the original lighting, which is a bummer for you. There's actually a whole video out there about how terrible the HD formatting of BtVS is. Unfortunately you can't watch that becuase of spoilers. Anyway, if you can contact another reactor who has been watching it in the correct format, maybe they can clue you in on how to get a better version.
